I remeber at the release of the special editions, my dad took me to mgm studios. The cast member playing Han Solo heard my dad say he flew with him. Without missing a beat, he said he knew my dad. They flew together before he met chewie. I was 5. I bought it hook, line and sinker. Once I got older, I recognized it as part of that disney magic. And so this ride is even more special to me

Several years ago ( and during a D23 convention ) we went across the street to Disneyland and rode Star Tours. When we entered there was one person from the last group still sitting there, clearly with the permission of the cast members that were with him. We sat down next to him and got ready to ride when I finally recognized him as Anthony Daniels. He said he'd never seen all the variations of the ride until now. I asked him "If you're here, who's flying this thing?"

AJ17 ... Well back in May of 2015. After riding Star Tours for the fifth time, Always the rebel spy was always in the third front seat from the left. When I went for my sixth ride, While I was waiting to be let on, I told the CM operating it that I figured out how the rebel spy was picked, The CM said it was just a coincidence. Then we got loading in and I was way in the back next to the entrance door. When the ride started, I was waiting for the picture of the person in the 3rd seat from the left in the front to show up. But to my surprise my photo appeared. I just hope there are no storm troopers on this youtube site. We might have to move somewhere else. Also back in Oct 2018 when I got back there to Star Tourss again. I told one of the CM operating the ride. That I had been chosen as a spy a long time ago. The CM replied back once a rebel spy always a rebel spy.

@@scotthouston4714 Next time, kindly and secretly, ask the CM if you can be the rebel spy. Then, just after you've sat down and put your seat belt on, make a funny face while looking forward. I was ridding Star Tours this year, it was great! Oh, I nearly forgot. I was the rebel spy, and as Yoda pointed at me he was pointing at everyone else sitting in the ride. It`s in 3D so he points at anyone who is looking at him, very clever stuff. I also got on the Smugglers Run, now that was ok but I think Star Tours was much better. Feb 12 to Feb 26 2020 was a great holiday, I will return in the near future. Before I go, the best ride was Rise of the Resistance, we waited all day but boy was it worth it! I remember the opening weekend at Disneyland. We missed all the opening ceremony & show on Friday, but we got there bright and early on Saturday. Still have the special watches they were handing out for the launch. Rode Star Tours twice that day (the line was basically Main Street). We went home, and came back the next day (the wristbands you got allowed you to come and go during the weekend), and hit the other rides. Pretty much everything else was a walk-on, as everyone was in line for Star Tours. Good times!

Thanks for this history! My favorite ride as a kid 15 years ago was Star Tours in Disneyland. I loved the ride, but the most memorable to me was the queue. Seeing the Starspeeder and R2-D2 and C3PO really felt like I was in a terminal about to travel in space. I can even remember the smell of boarding the Starspeeder. This ride inspired me so much so that I’m pursuing a career as a pilot. It’s the closest I can get to living out that childhood memory. I’ll be visiting a lot more terminals pretty soon! Although he had extreme motion sickness he always went, he is such an amazing and selfless person who always put family first even if it was just (When I was child he always hid it or maybe i was not observant with his 10 minute puking session afterwards). Star wars was such an important part of my childhood and made many memories with my dad. This ride still holds up to other star wars rides and has come so far!

I’ve been selected as the rebel spy once. When I was last at Disneyland, they had Star Tours in 2 configurations. The simulators on the left side were set to the 2011 randomized ride films, which I prefer. The simulators on the right were set to always show the Force Awakens and Last Jedi parts with Kylo Ren in the beginning. They’ll probably change them all to feature the new Rise Of Skywalker segment next week because it helps them promote the film.

Fantastic history so well presented, Expedition!! I agree Star Tours is more exciting in some ways than Smugglers Run. At least that’s how I feel about it, as much as I love walking through the Falcon before that new ride. The recent 2019 extra scene is stunning on Star Tours, based on Rise if Skywalker and the new Star Destroyer fleet. However here’s a thought, for me, and also my son, the story and thrill and FLOW of the original film on the original STAR TOURS is far superior. It builds and builds then when you leave you’re just so invigorated as you walk out to the main theme and throne room music. As much as it’s great having the new multiple possibilities for re-ride-ability, the escalating non stop mountain action and tension and pure thrill of the original was perfect, as a ride experience and dramatic experience too. The new experience starts and stops with that mid-way point hologram, to us the figures talking to us at he start and middle take away from the illusion (just too difficult to believe rather than actual spectacular scenes on screen instead). Although the midway point now offers a chance for the system to change what is next on screen, the original just had much better shape in terms of ride experience that built the thrill non stop. And the iconic trench scene...we ALL always wanted to do that!!! Didn’t care about seeing a different scene because that was THE reason to re-ride:) Of course being older I thought well I’m biased toward the original trilogy etc, but interestingly my young son much preferred the old star tours, to the point he chooses not to ride the new one having tried it a few times. Anyway, as mentioned the new footage is spectacular, and folks were having a BLAST on the ride last I went late 2019. Just some thoughts on some of the differences:)

I do sort of hope they can someday move Star Tours to Galaxy's Edge. Consolidate all the Star Wars themed attractions in to one area. Either that or find a way to rebuild the People Mover to go from Tomorrowland to Galaxy's Edge in Disneyland's case. While I think it might not be possible at Disneyland with out some clever puzzle work, Disney World seems a bit easier... though I hope removing Muppet Vision isn't necessary...

It will probably stay at Hollywood studios because it’s so close to GE, but I think it’ll be taken out of Disneyland when the new Tomorrowland remodel comes within the next decade. It’ll cost disney an insane amount of money to move all of star tours over to GE, but there is a space to the backside of the land near toontown where they could move it but I’d rather see a new GE E-ticket or sit down restaurant in that spot.
@Coastersguy5 жыл бұрын
@bigevilworldwide1 The land is in need of a refurb but I wouldn't go so much to say its trash. The Peoplemover was something that gave the land kinetic energy. It was something that people could ride and sit and enjoy seeing all of the land's attractions. The Peoplemover in MK is near my top ten rides at WDW because it brings wonder to the land. If you say it wasn't a "ride", would you say Rocket Rods was?
@invaderpez125 жыл бұрын
The only issue witu moving it into GE is that they would have to remove a lot of the scenes that me and a lot of people already grew to like. I know Disney is about change and ST has already changed a lot, but man theres so many scenes that I get excited to see since I'm nostalgic.

I cannot fathom why Smuggler's Run isn't exactly the same with the random locations. It's a flight simulator, and in the case of Smuggler's Run, it'actually a video game being rendered in real time using Unreal Engine. It would make even MORE sense for it to be able to go to different planets, or even take different courses depending on input from the riders, but no, it's the same exact experience every time. Even the story they tell outside could work for any planet. You're told you need to collect coaxium. It doesn't say "On this planet, from this character." And frankly, it could work for any timeframe where Hondo and Chewbacca are both alive.

I was the last person to ride Star Tour in Disneyland Paris (I didn’t know they closed the other ones so early) ! I guess I’m the last person in the world to ride the original Star Tour ! I remember the day when I learned it was going to be closed so I spent an entire day just going on Star Tour again and again to the point that they where supposed to close it but the staff (who where also fans) decided to let me rid it after it was closed (it was funny having the shuttle just for me and my dad), they even showed me the backstage after ! It was really awesome !

Love this video Sam 😊. Loved this ride since I first rode it in 1998, one of my favourites. Still has an old skool star wars feel 👍😎

Hot take, but I think that Star Tours should be moved INTO Galaxy’s Edge. It’s already seen that there is a place for star tours on Batuu from the ending of one of the ride films to the presence of a star speeder in smugglers run. So I feel like that can justify putting it over there and also we could have new experiences in the buildings it currently occupies

Last time I rode Star Tours 2017, I kept getting the Naboo scene, but one time actually hit the gungan that normally ducks in the beginning. I thought that was really cool that each planet can have multiple versions within, but don't hear anyone talk about these slight differences.

I just was on this ride at Disneyland Paris. I hadn't ridden this ride since the original in the late 1990's in California. It was huge improvement, and I enjoyed it. Seems the Star Speeder 1000 is a little out of place since everything takes place around the new movies, and ends at Batuu. A slight retooling of this ride to have the Star Speeder 3000 or 4000 keeping C-3P0 would make it even better. Having it in Galaxies Edge when you get off the ride would make it perfect. It truly has come a long way, and I feel is here to stay, at least for now.

Original Star Tours was ***PERFECT*** and nothing beats using models for making movies (CGI is not the same!). Probably the best improvement in ADV CONT is the line having space port security droids instead of manufacturing ones, but both scenarios get you in-universe effectively.

When I was a kid I got lucky and the line was very short on this. The ride attendant was really nice and let me ride this 3 times in a row. Needless to say I was one very dizzy kid by the end of that third ride! I did manage to avoid throwing up though...

Mind blown... The Sith planet of Exegol featured in RISE OF SKYWALKER is the phonetic pronunciation of a portion of “George Lucas” spelled individually backwards! Exegol sounds just like “egroEG SACUL”. Oh my god.
