Disney wisely decided against doing the Haunted Mansion as a walkthrough attraction because they feared that guests would “linger” too long. Also, the “doombuggys” control where the rider’s attention is focused so Disney can concentrate all the best effects in one place during each scene. Poseidon’s Fury should have been a boat ride.

honestly, i personally love this attraction. Going over from the UK i love the use of its effects, especially using the big blinder to cause peoples eyes to adjust, meaning they wont see the walls moving up. A lot of people say it should be a boat ride, or that it should be a roller coaster or stuff like that but i personally like the change of pace from all of the other rides. there are more than enough rollercoasters and boat rides in Orlando, let alone in the world, and there are just so few fully immersive rides like this one is. Realistically, i would call it a promenade theatre show since it involves you walking between different specially built sets to tell the story (which is basically the definition of a promenade show) and at the end of the day, promenade shows simply aren't for everyone. the majority of negative reviews i have seen are never about the experience itself but people complaining that they had to walk around. To be honest i could right a full 2 page review on this show. in fact i did. i had to write a review on a show to get into my university (as a lighting technician) and i chose this ride as it has really stuck with me. honestly the only thing i even think is comparable for this type of attraction is the Alton Towers dungeons but even on that the boat ride to me just feels a bit out of place with nothing much happening of any relevance. If this were to go i would be very sad, to put it simply. especially if they removed the expanding room effect.
@NimbusCumulus4 жыл бұрын
14:58 It actually used to all happen in about 2 seconds. It was surprisingly quick. There would be a final blast of sound and light effects deafening and dazzling you, the room would go dark, and about 2 seconds later the lights would come on again and you were back in the previous room. It was pretty obvious it was meant to be a teleportation effect and I don’t know why anyone would be confused by the show? The storyline was pretty clear - the “evil” Poseidon was trying to escape and Zeus needed the visitors to help him gain access to the final chamber to help defeat Poseidon. It was all explained in the first two rooms - assuming people actually listened (this might be where the problem lay)! I’d heard that the main problem was with the name of the show - Poseidon’s Fury made some people think Poseidon was the “hero” because they didn’t listen in the preshow - and the fact that some people were expecting a ride rather than a walk-through show.
@Flies2FLL3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a case where the people behind the attraction were too into the experience and didn't put themselves into the shoes of the people who were paying to see it. A short video explaining everything, to include that this is a special effects show, not a ride in a very generic room would have made it work. "This is the story of Poseidon, the god of the sea, and this is his story, you will be teleported...Twice". People are simple creatures, but if they know what to look for ahead of time, then things make a lot more sense to them. I spent four years as a flight instructor and from this I have learned to put myself in other people's positions. I found that if I did that, and SHUT MY MOUTH when they were trying to perform a maneuver with the airplane then they did far better.

They could just move the tunnel for hp if needed. It would be amazing for a chamber of secrets ride, maybe pretending to be another basilisk or something.

Jed Mitchell To be fair, Harry Potter has enough attractions in IOA. Of anything, they should retheme Fast and Furious to a Harry Potter attraction, and use the lost continent area for a new movie that might fit the old landscape of The Lost Continent a bit better.

It’s weird how you forget something even existed until your reminded. I’ve seen this show a few times and had a vivid flashback/memories once I watched this. Damn your channel is good. Defunctland is one of my favorites and I’m happy I have another now too.

Glad to know this still exists. I was there over 10 years ago before Harry Potter World was built. I assumed this whole section was taken over by Harry Potter stuff since Dueling Dragons became a Harry Potter attraction. Mythos restaurant’s food was and is the most delicious food I’ve ever eaten in my entire life.

I saw the Goddard version of this attraction in 2012 and loved it. Was it state of the art? Definitely not, but the cheesy script and acting was amusing, Taylor having a conversation with the obviously pre-recorded video of Darkenon was hilariously awkward, the musical score was gorgeous, and the original special effects still worked like a charm. That Oracle Door and water tunnel were amazing, and the room changing around me before my eyes was magical. My glasses fogging up while I stayed dry while walking through the tunnel added to the fantasy of the attraction. Definitely well worth the 20 minutes it took to experience.

We went to Universal in August 2016, and this was definitely my favorite attraction! I had no clue what it was but went on it nonetheless and was so surprised at how technically advanced it seemed!

This ride definitely surprised me. I went to Universal in September of 2019, and didn't even know it existed until I got a map on day 1. My family went on one of the walkthroughs, and now I anxiously await for when I return with my friends in June to hopefully go on this journey with them. I was definitely a fan.

I just popping by to say thank you very much to include my reconstruction version of the original Poseidon's Fury video to your show! Many Thanks, DragonDave LTD
@themisfitowl25953 жыл бұрын
Ironically, I've heard that the water vortex tunnel is actually the thing keeping Poseidon's Fury together, in more ways than one. Not only is it the star effect of the show, but it may actually be too expensive to remove from the area and too delicate to build a new attraction around. They wanted the latest tech for what they believed would be a headliner attraction, and that tech may actually have turned into an anchor for an old but awesome classic attraction.

So glad you did this vid. I "experienced" this attraction on day 3 of a 5 day, 5 parks vacation in 2016. This was the only ride break down we witnessed during that excruciatingly humid July visit. The door into the final chamber malfunctioned and didn't open. Our guide excused himself and disappeared for what seemed like several minutes. We all stood there, with the water tunnel still roaring behind us, making the room feel particularly dank, as we nervously waited for something to happen. Suddenly an emergency light clicked to our right, illuminating an exit door. A voice over the PA system advised us to use it as our way out. That was it, no apology, no banter with the now missing guide, nothing. It was a bit jarring to suddenly stumble back out into the Florida sun and heat, mid-experience. Needless to say it set the tone for the for the rest of our stay at Universal and I was rather happy to find myself back in the Magic Kingdom the following day. With your vid I finally got to see not just how the ride might have ended but also how it was intended to originally be experienced. Thanks!

This show is amazing. It's the best experience at islands (and I have been on all the potter rides). The finally is simply breathtaking. There is simply nothing like it in the world. While yes, it does need a refurbishment badly, it's simply breathtaking from the time you see the exterior to the very end.

Went on this when my school's marching band went to Universal. Found myself enjoying the attraction, especially thanks to Taylor's actor's performance. Didn't expect to be on an attraction within a month of its closure. Edit: As a fan of the She-Ra reboot, I wish I could've have been able to see She-Ra while I was there!

I'm probably in the minor here, but I genuinely like posedien's fury. I think it's partly due to nostalgia, but I also think the cheesy acting and special effects are charming. It really reminds me of old school universal where they focused more on telling a story rather than relying on screen based technology.

As someone who lives in Orlando, I've been to all the parks many times. The only real problem with this attraction is not what is mentioned here, but rather, the actual physical location of this gorgeous and awesome attraction. You have to experience it to appreciate it, and this video doesn't even remotely do it justice. When guests are walking around the park, they are inclined to walk right past Poseidon's Fury, because it doesn't really stand out...it's off to one side. Indeed, for years, I never noticed it! But if you actually walk into it, the overall setting is STUNNING! It's so cool and massive. The experience is incredible, and the indoor fire and water display is amazing. This is my favorite attraction. If Universal could open up the area more so it stands out, or force people to walk into it, the attendance would probably double.

Took 3 different trips to IOA to finally see this. First time it was shut down to be a HHN house that was honestly the best of that year. Next time it was out of service for indeterminate length across visit window which may have been the revamp. Finally on the 3rd try it was up but ooof you could feel the years of bad history the kept return visitors away as even in the heat of the day it took a while for them to get a group large enough to even start the show.

I went on this when i was younger, and my dad had left his sunglasses in a room as we started to move on and I literally cried because I was so worried the doors would close and he'd be stuck inside the room we had just left and that is quite literally the only thing that made an impression on me about this ride

The one thing I always think about when people build giant ancient themed theme parks or areas is that if Humanity wiped itself out and if the rock sculptures last longer than anything else we built future civilizations like aliens could discover this stuff and genuinely mistake it for ancient ruins.

So as a Florida resident who has been in love is IOA and US for as long as I can remember, It broke my heart to hear about this ride's closing. I'm a theme park buff and love hearing about all the little tricks and tidbits I've come to learn on my own through out the years. Hearing the narrator say "Close your eyes before the flash" made me giddy with joy because that is something I learned to do when I was a teen on this attraction. I'll always have a soft spot for this attraction even if most people hated it. I know these parks like the back of my hand and get insanely happy when I hear anything about them. I'm looking forward to when the Velocicoaster opens on June 10th!!

When my friends and I first saw this place, I wasn't even sure it was an attraction, because we didn't see anyone going in. But we managed to find the entrance and decided to give it a shot, having utterly no idea what to expect. Was it a ride? Was it a show? Who knows! It was probably one of the highlights of our trip because it was the most ridiculously cheesy thing I had ever seen. It felt super dated but we were impressed with the effects. And the fact it wasn't based on any movie or IP just kinda' made it this weird little oddball thing. I recommend it to all of my friends who go to Universal because it's such a weird surprise.
