Hot take: I think that without Saturn we wouldn't exist. I know that most people believe that without Jupiter we wouldn't exist because it protects us from asteroids and all, and while it does serve a purpose, the main reason we exist is because of Saturn. For example, in the Grand Track model where Jupiter moved to the inner solar system and gathered up from the gas disk, had Saturn not migrated then Jupiter may have gathered it all and stopped the formation of the inner planets, including Earth.
@cryoraptora303tm22 жыл бұрын
You are completely correct. Without Saturn, Jupiter would have likely continued its inward migration until it was very close to the Sun, becoming a Hot Jupiter-type planet that we often see in other systems. This would have quite predictably disrupted the formation of the terrestrial planets, if not ending it altogether. Saturn ended Jupiter's early migration by capturing it in a 3:2 resonance with itself, which not only halted the giant planet's migration but also caused it to migrate back outwards to the relatively safe position it is at today. Jupiter being our 'protector' is a myth; it does not eject asteroids away from the inner Solar System and to the contrary, disturbs any small bodies near its orbit, making it just as likely to push asteroids and cometary bodies into near-Earth orbit. In fact, it probably almost killed us at least once; it is thought quite likely that the Solar System originally started with three, maybe even four, ice giants, planets like Uranus and Neptune. They would have been around 10 Earth masses, somewhat less massive than the two we have today. As the five planet Nice model describes, this fifth giant planet came under the influence of Saturn, which ejected it inwards. Jupiter then heavily disrupted the planet, eventually ejecting it from the Solar System entirely. All it would've taken was a slightly different encounter to send the fifth (or sixth if we started with 4 iceys) towards the inner Solar System, which would've surely dramatically perturbed the terrestrial planets, leading to the early Earth either freezing into a snowball it never comes out of, undergoing an extremely early runaway greenhouse effect, or being ejected entirely. Jupiter may kill us again in the future, if it perturbs Mercury or Mars over billions of years, although Earth will long have been uninhabitable by the time that happens.
@NeoWisey-J1407B2 жыл бұрын
So Saturn is "Jupiter 2.0"?
@therealspeedwagon14512 жыл бұрын
We wouldn’t. In fact looking at a lot of other stars we can find hot Jupiters orbiting them. This is when a gas giant is so close to it’s star it becomes a hellish nightmare filled with a toxic atmosphere, oblong shape, or even slowly losing it’s atmosphere entirely. If it wasn’t for Saturn Jupiter would’ve suffered the same fate and the inner planets like Earth wouldn’t exist
@Neptune218 Жыл бұрын
back then the sun had much more mass about 1.41 solar masses and was 30x its current size and 259x its current luminosity This was during the hayashi track then it gave out its mass to the planets so they could form if the sun didnt do this and stayed 259x as luminous and 30x its current size and with 1.41 solar masses then all the planets in the solar system including earth wouldnt exist and humans themselves would probably exist in a different star system or not exist at all

I would like to report some minor issues I found: 1) When Jupiter formed, it's temperature increases during the Sun's Hayashi track. 2) When Venus and Earth formed, Uranus and Neptune's temperatures don't stabilize. 3) When the sun formed, you put on (Too hot, Habitable, Too Cold, Too hot) but surprisingly, space is not hot. 4) When Planet Nine was ejected, its details don't stabilize anymore until the end. 5) When the first (Other event) came up, the Sun's diameter didn't stabilize anymore.

in the video, from 2:18 to 2:45 Uranus was colder than Planet 9, even if Uranus is a lot closer to the sun. it could be accurate if the albedo is low, but if it's high, then that's an error. the albedo has to be really low for the temperature is accurate (idk, 0.01?) if Planet 9 has Neptune's color (blue with a little white) the temperature has to be somewhere below -250°C and above -260°C. my best guess is -253°C.

@@mrplasma7094 yeah, it could've been much stronger back then, enabling life and complexing it. Interesting, somewhere I have found that Neptune was the outermost planet and the fifth gas giant was between Saturn and Uranus, and somewhere I have found Uranus was the outermost and Neptune was the seventh planet...what do you think about it?
@mrplasma70944 жыл бұрын
I honestly think that Neptune was closer to the sun than Uranus, as there is more material for planetary growth closer to the sun, and Neptune is more massive than Uranus, so it probably formed closer to the sun, and many sources I found says so as well.
@kovacsgergows4 жыл бұрын
That's right, besides its bigger mass, as far as I know, Neptune cools faster than Uranus. Is it likely to the fifth gas giant was between Saturn and Neptune? Have you found any article about it?

timestamps: 0:14 the sun forms into a heavy brown dwarf, gaining mass every second. 0:28 jupiter begins to form as a rocky core, beginning the formation of jupiter. 0:39 saturn begins to form as a rocky core, too. 0:48 the rest of the gas giants form their rocky cores. 1:12 the sun begins nuclear fusion, starting to give the protoplanets heat. 1:36 the remaining asteroids begin to get gravitationally pulled to eachother, making the first inner protoplanets. 1:40 the rest of the inner protoplanets form. 1:45 earth, mars and jupiter all start tugging on the other planets. theia gets tugged a lot more, causing an unstable orbit. 1:47 theia's orbit is now super unstable, going inbetween earth and mars multiple times in 1000 years. 1:59 after millions of years of the unstable orbit, getting worse and worse, then when thiea was passing by earth's orbit, earth pulled thiea in and crashed into thiea, creating the moon. 2:17 planet nine gets ejected, but neptune or something else might have tugged on it so it stayed in orbit. 2:40 earth's first water forms. 2:41 the other inner planets get water, too. 2:45 mars loses its magnetic field, losing some water. 2:50 life starts appearing on the inner planets. 3:02 yep, mars has lost life. EARTH DOES NOT HAVE IT YET WHATT 3:13 now it does 3:17 earth gets oxygen, late tho 4:03 earth loves life, doesn't she 4:12 quite stable life on earth 4:33 darn venus lost its life 5:32 saturn gets its rings. 5:33 humans evolve on earth. so sad

What's that temperature boost on Venus at 4:54 from +43 to +73 °C?
@imnotbeluga0072 жыл бұрын
Greenhouse effect caused by rapid evaporation of water. You hit a limit (45°C maybe) and then water starts evaporating FAST. And water vapor is a greenhouse gas, so the temperature skyrockets. This will happen to Earth in a billion years, so let's enjoy it while we can live on it.
