You can also hear very clearly that Opie is not a man who enters an arguement with a point of view in his heart and then sticks to his arguments to express his perspective. He is the kind of man who invents new complaints moment to moment as the argument proceeds. This is typically marked by a person accusing you of something or giving you an example of their grievance, you demonstrating that the grievance is false or inappropriate, and them simply moving on to another, rather than staying on point and arguing the facts or owning that they are, in that case, wrong.

by far the most infuriating one is when somebody holds his feet to the fire and gets a somewhat concession on a point and then 2 minutes later he circles back to throwing in that exact point again like “you don’t like apples” “what? yes I do” “everybody knows you don’t like apples” “I’m literally eating an apple right now. I have 5 apples in my lunchbox sitting right here. I had an entire serving course of apples at my wedding.” “okay that’s fine, but at least let’s be honest here, you do not like watermelon” “what?” “everybody knows that” “everybody knows I don’t like watermelon?” “-that you dont like watermelon, that you dont like oranges, that you don’t like apples…”

Was the reason Opie got so mad about the phones because that was about 80% of his job?
@KobaAM4 жыл бұрын
Exactly. If its about interesting and/or funny conversation, the guy has absolutely nothing. That's why he couldn't hang when the show moved passed the shock jock bullshit. If the show was based on talent and merit, Opie would never have been brought in post 2004 the way Anthony and Jim would have if they weren't there from their respective starts. It's also why Opie ALWAYS had to be the one to read articles even though hes awful at that too. The guy was really the one who brought nothing to the table. Not Erock.

He was mad about the phones because it was one of the main things in his toolkit that he used to derail the show when the guys were being funny. Anytime they would be on a roll and it would be going great, Opie couldn't participate because he isn't funny and doesn't know how to riff with guys. So he'd bring things to a screeching halt with phone calls. Callers were his way to take back control and put attention and power into his hands when he was powerless.

Opie in the first argument trying to throw Jimmy under the bus for complaining about management all the time, when he did that and often started it. Then he pretends he likes what management is doing. Jimmy is killing him in the initial argument, so Opie legitimately tries to get him in trouble with management. Jimmy’s problem was that Opie’s attitude changed and he deliberately didn’t acknowledge a guy that Jimmy invited onto the show. Instead of saying “yeah I didn’t like him being in there” he says there was a lot going on and Chris Jericho deserves more respect. He acted like a baby and then tried to justify and say that there was a reason other than he just didn’t want him in there. He told management he accepted their points of view off air, and told Jimmy he accepted his point of view off air, then said on air that he agreed with management and disagreed with Jimmy.

This is what happened. Anthony looked at the show as a job, a great job which he loved. Opie looked at the show as a job with his FRIENDS, personal friends. Anthony didn't need to be friends with his co-workers but obviously had formed other friendships in the workplace and Opie was jealous. Opie NEEDED to be friends with Anthony. Opie took it personally that Anthony looked at him as a co-worker. He couldn't reconcile that issue. Meanwhile, Anthony just tried to make the show good and not care about Opie personally. Opie always takes things personally. If you listen to him when Patrice was on Opie always tried to make sure that Patrice knew that Opie was his friend. He would sometimes say it, "are we friends Patrice". Opie is also that guy in the room that you can't criticize or argue with or make veiled jokes about so after years of GREGSHELLS everyone in the studio probably started to hate Opie a little bit. Opie should just be honest and say "I'm sad that Anthony doesn't want to be my friends, it's upsetting to me?" If he just communicated that maybe everyone could've just moved on.
