I do like the potential of the ideas Small Brawl brings with it taking place at the end of the solid timeline. Have the story be that Billy was in awe of the Twisted Metal tournaments at a younger age, only to modify RC cars to match the original contestants and getting his bullying victims and other kids to play his own pretend tournament. Maybe the real Calipso gave him some power to make it more authentic and spread some chaos in order to make the wishes. If the story was decades after, as twisted as it sounds, a company run by Calipso (perhaps in the shadows) start to commercialize the Twisted Metal tournaments of old, making merchandise of the more 'famous' contestants and kids start to play pretend TM. Could be the same as before with him seeing himself in Billy and granting him powers to eventually bring back the tournament with some of the kids grown up now wanting to play the real deal.

I always figured that Head On had contestants that won in their own timelines, and Calypso brought them over into one, sounds confusing, but that can be applied to every game in the franchise when you talk about it’s lore. It’s alot to wrap ones head around, i mean, this is potentially the very reason why the game has “twisted” in it’s name.

One thing I would like to point out about the year Black takes place is that Grimm says that he spent 30 years in Blackfield (in his introduction cutscene), and that it was 1971 when he and Benny were in Vietnam. If the events Grimm listed out (Him and Benny being drafted, the two being caught and put in a hole, Grimm eating Benny's corpse, and Grimm being sent to Blackfield) all took place in 1971, that would mean that Black takes place in 2001. Which if that were true, would mean that Black's tournament is the 6th annual tournament (if my math is right).

Great work! I'm sad to say, tho, but you missed one thing: TM3 does give you a date to work with! The voiced intro for Los Angeles has Calypso say that it's been 18 months since "The Great Quake of 2007", placing the game around a year and half later. TM4 is not really a sequel to 3, people seems to believe that due to it being a 989 game, but the devs clearly gave no care to years there. Also, a bit surprised that you didn't mention that, given HO happens 3 years later, there should have been 2 spare contest in there to fit extra winners. I personally think you can neatly accomodate every returning character with that info, but I will not bore you with random theories anyway. Keep up the great work!

Regarding Krista, I assume that the photo with the number 6 on it is just the age she was in the picture, and not specifically how old she was at the time the panel of Calypso looking at the photo was. As for TM2, I always assumed she was mostly, if not entirely a robot and that her given age is just the age that she was when she died (especially since her ghost in Head On looks to be the same age as in 2)

To your theory about Calypso. What if he operates like 'Everything Everywhere All at Once' where there is a "main" Calypso that can jump between his alternate reality selves BUT his power will bleed through to his other selves. You could even argue that the closer the version is to the prime timeline the more of 'main' Calypso's power they have access to (which would explain why Billy and Twisted Metal Black versions seem to not be as reality altering in most of their wishes). Now as for why he sends Black in.....Black (the game)....maybe if main Calypso doesn't like some of his variations but possessing them and trying to kill himself might destroy the prime Calyoso too, again like Everything Everywhere all at Once, so he sent a minion. To be honest i kinda like this because it implies that the reason there are so many continued story's between characters in the games even though there shouldn't be logically is because 'prime' Calypso is jumping back and forth to see what they would wish for in the timelines where they won. Which would futher tie him to the player. He basically is doing what most players are doing, seeing what a character would wish for, but he does it from inside the games universes. (Sorry this was so long....)

I have a theory about Kratos's blades being in Twisted Metal 2012. In GOW 3, we see Athena replace the Blades of Chaos with the Blades of Exile but in 4 and Ragnarok we see that the Blades of Chaos are back and the Exile Blades are nowhere to be seen nor are they mentioned. I think this is because Calypso took the Blades of Exile. Kratos mentioned to Atreus how the Blades of Chaos return to him if he tries to get rid of them so there would be no use for the Blades of Exile. Just a fun theory I have

Wow very nice job. I never thought of Black being an interpretation of TM1 by Sweet Tooth but it makes sense. I always thought the levels were alot like the original TM and even ends on the rooftops like TM1 also. Also has the same dynamic music as well. But didnt really think much of all of that. And I tend to believe with my headcanon that TM1, 2, and head on take place in Marcus's head as they are more tied into reality, and the Black universe takes place in Sweet Tooths head. 3 and 4 and small brawl dont really have an explanation for except maybe could say they take place in Billy's head since they are more child like. And TM 2012 being the one where shit hits the fan in actual reality. Marcus losses his fight against Sweet Tooth after all the years and becomes Needles, possibly with real Calypso even being the one pulling the strings and why he has mementos from all the tournaments while invading Sweet Tooths mind. And Darkside, and Grimm, and Preacher also just happen naturally like a life imitating art kind of thing. And now Calypso has his real life tournament and doesnt need Sweet Tooths crazy mind anymore and could get rid of him.

The Black and 95 connection also makes sense if you're also taking into account the map designs as well. Since both these games have a few very similar maps in terms of feel and layout. It wouldn't be a stretch to think that in TM 1 that's how the places actually look like. While in Black, looking through Sweet Tooth's warped perspective, everything looks gritty and dilapidated.

I found this video trying to understand the story of twisted metal in its relation to the new series and I watched all 36 minutes and have no better understanding of the game or the show but boy was it a rollercoaster of a video to watch I enjoyed every minute I commend you for trying to decipher this for us sir. I played most of these games as a small child and didn't realize there was a story at all I thought it was just cars blowing each other up for no reason. Definitely think "Billy" Calypso has powers, most likely from picking up the ring but could be a universal re-write. I wouldn't do any mental gymnastics with this one, because while it's goofy we do see other endings akin to this like him messing with Mortimer and his frog and turning it giant and probably intending for it to eat Mortimer with it falling back on him since he runs away saying he can keep the frog. Honestly, everything fits the bill really since he even tells Sweet Tooth he can "Have anything he wants", and it being known from previous iterations that he can't use his powers if they don't make a wish making him an easy target.

I kinda like to think that Black did happen (and that there's some sort of multiverse going on but that's another thing entirely). Sure, Marcus says it takes place in Needles' head, but Marcus is also not really mentally sound (he's literally the split personality of a deranged man) and in both 2 and Head On he is convinced that the world he is currently in isn't real, so it's hard to say how reliable of a narrator he is. An interesting thought that has literally no proof and is just a headcanon of mine is that (at least in Head On) Marcus and Needles have LITERALLY separated. In Sweet Tooth's ending he points out that he has won several tournaments in the past, so maybe he used one of his wishes to separate himself from Marcus (who recognizes him as the guy who drives Sweet Tooth) and maybe even to change his appearance, explaining the flaming head, red eyes, and maybe even the fact that his mask seems to also be his face if you take it literally and not as just a stylistic choice (it has the straps like in black, but also is expressive and seems to have a real mouth).

My personal explanation for how Calypso has the Blades of Chaos is that some version of PlayStation All-Stars happened during Timeline B. Calypso simply sat back and watched, only planning to take action if Polygon Man got past the summoned heroes and directly threatened him. During that time, he witnessed the rival battle between Needles Kane and Kratos, which Kratos won. Intrigued and seeing potential for a new competitor, Calypso did some digging into Kratos’ world and quickly realized that getting anywhere near the Ghost of Sparta was a bad idea- he’d tell Calypso to shove any deal he offered and could very feasibly kill him if Calypso pushed the issue. Instead, once Polygon Man was defeated and the competitors returned to their worlds, Calypso commissioned a copy of the Blades be made as a reminder of the warrior that had impressed him so much.

Here is what I think could be a (scuffed) explanation for why Calypso needs the ring in the TM3&4 timeline. Calypsos powers are deeply rooted within the tournament itself, with the carnage its causing probably being the source of them, the bigger the damage the stronger Calypso is, which is why from TM1 to TM2, he tried to cause mayhem on a global level instead of just wrecking one city. Resetting the timeline would surely require a big amount of his power to pull off, which could explain why he made himself to be so influencal in the TM reboot timeline, to keep high control without needing to use much of his power. And the second reset would have most likely required even more of his powers since he went so far back into the past, before the time where he even got the powers in the first timeline, and being at a point where cars just started to drive meant his powers had no carnage to feast on. In an attempt to preserve what powers he had still left, he condensed them into the ring for save keeping until he could start up the tournament again to fuel his powers. But instead of the powers just coming back to him after the chaos started, they were still contained only to the ring but useable by anyone whos wearing it, which is why Sweet Tooth was able to use Calypsos former powers without any problems.

The world is in a chaotic state due to multiple wishes made by various winners of The Twisted Metal contest over the years. It would makes sense if his powers grew because from TM 1 TM 2 TM Head on (The True TM3)and TM 2012 He basically ages backwards in those games. I always saw it as w visual indication of his increased strength from all of the people who have died in his contest. Calypso is the devil or at least something similar as TM 2012 heavily implied that he was the devil in preacher's story mode

My canon: TM1 (2005): Carl won TM2(2006): Jamie won TM 2007: Axel won TM 2008: Marcus Kane won TMHO(2009): Needles won Twister died as a loser, Krista blew up when she lost in 2, and Simon Whittlebone decided built the Whittlebone Tower after his loss because I think he survived in 2 but lost and then built the tower and fell from it.

Hey @Tactical Bacon Productions... I might sound stupid in this as I only played Twisted Metal during my childhood and I only know fragments from 1, 2, 3, 4, Black and Small Brawl... This might come off as a hunch. Krista Sparks was born. Calypso earns his power and everything follows as according to the timeline stated. Minion was an entity to safeguard the darkness of Twisted Metal and has every chance to take it back from Calypso if he misuses or doesn't use the power when granting the correct wishes in the tournaments the Twisted Metal way which places each victor in the darkness they wished for. When Calypso saw Krista Sparks, he didn't kill her as intended but kills himself with her. Since Calypso was technically immortal, Krista Sparks is now a ghost which allows Calypso to accept that he has a chance of reunion with his daughter before he continues his duty of darkness. However in the 9th Tournament, Minion wins the tournament and sends Calypso to hell for punishment in not killing Krista Sparks but allowing her to die mercifully without a twist. Therefore, when Outlaw Officer Carl Roberts won the tournament, Calypso being fearful to be sent to Hell by Minion due to his wish previously - sends him to outer space in a Twist of darkness and in the next one he reveals to Charlie Kane regarding his darkness, becoming Dark Tooth. When Roadkill - Marcus Kane (whom technically is Needles Kane in canon) emerged to defeat Charlie Kane; he realized that Marcus and Needles Kane were the concept of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde within him. Technically in canon, he would be either driving Roadkill or Sweet Tooth's ride in between to gamble on which side suits him to win the tournament - outsmarting the system that he can either be one of the drivers whenever he loses as the other split character. With these factors at hand, he either needs to be strong enough to resist and kill Charlie Kane and be good or kill him and accept he will become the next Sweet Tooth / Tower Tooth. By defeating Charlie Kane with Calypso splitting his two personalities, Tower Tooth was born. As the two Kanes coexist together, knowing there are no other Kanes in their life anymore - the tournament continues as it is for the rest of the timeline while they continue to make others suffer as there is nothing to look forward to (all Kanes are dead). Throughout the period of insanity of the Kanes, Needles Kane has lost all consciousness within his mind and often imagines himself as what would it be like being Calypso in person. Hence throughout his insanity, he sculpted the imaginary version of Calypso in his dream (the one-eyed Calypso) and Needles Kane as a contestant defeating his own version of Calypso, executing a plan of revenge on him for making the Kanes and other participants suffer and suffer and suffer in Twisted Metal. What was not disclosed was - another sole survivor of the Kane family still exists - Sophie Kane was still alive and she took matters into her own hands after knowing the insanity of Needles Kane (whom at this point was already a psychotic murderer that kills everyone under Calypso's influence). Knowing how psychotic the darkness had drawn Needles Kane insane during this period of time (likely Marcus Kane is dead at this point due to guilt of killing the contestants under Calypso's influence) - by 1999 Needles Kane - Sweet Tooth whom is the evil counter part of Marcus Kane decides that enough is enough and steals the ring from Calypso so he can be the one to handle the tournament, giving Calypso a taste of his own suffering when he was a participant while making him suffer through the tournament for the suffering of the Kane bloodline. With this thought instilled, he uses the ring to rebuild the contestants in the strongest forms to honor them. However, Calypso (whom still has another ring on his finger in his profile image in Twisted Metal 4) is immortal as always and wins the tournament with insiders helping him reach to the end (as Moon Buggy, Minion and RC Car being the three vehicles that does not have the "Super" term). If Twisted Metal 4 shows a kid picking up the ring while Sweet Tooth and Calypso continues fighting inside the ring, this also shows that all the characters that were sucked into the ring were reincarnated as children and starting the beginning of Small Brawl with humble beginnings because in perspective - Small Brawl would be RC cars doing a carnage combat which doesn't destructively end the world and it's a children's tournament. For those whom outsmart Calypso in their end cutscenes (Shadow, Slamm, Crimson Fury and Sweet Tooth obviously), it'll prove that the new Calypso is an impersonator and is mortal, not immortal like the Twisted Metal 1, 2, 3 and 4 counterparts. Hence, Small Brawl is the last part when Twisted Metal dies entirely and it's just a mere imagination for children. The death of Spectre's father would then be directly canon as the son will be looking for the father's ride to drive in the next Twisted Metal. Hence a timeline repetition of Ken Masters but with the son inheriting the name "Ken Masters" - driving the car to restart the multiverse and change the fate of Twisted Metal and the cycle repeats... until the next Twisted Metal resolves. Yes. It's long-winded and I'm sorry for writing this without any research except referring to this video.

So how could calypso and sweetooth be inside the ring in small brawl according to your timeline? That would have been a previous timeline that was reset. meaning your last game is actually small brawl which apparently takes 2 places in the timeline?
