The Gauntlet of Zeus is the reason Kratos can kill Persephone. Its taken away by Athena at the end of the game. Why didnt she suggest to use it in GOW1 is a mistery since the gauntlet is never mentioned again

I think it’s really stupid calling any open world game that has driving a GTA clone it would be like saying every mob movie made since the year 1990 is only a rip off of Goodfellas. Take saints row for instance the world that you play in completely fills different any GTA game it’s over the top. And then Game’s like sleeping dogs to me were way ahead of what GTA was doing at the time. Hong Kong was extremely lively a combat was fantastic and the story was very intriguing.

While I will admit it is very jank the original Mafia is such a refreshing take on the GTA formula, as personally I see it as what would happen if you actually tried to be a criminal in the same vein as Tommy Vercetti or Niko Bellic; sure, you could theoretically blast through bad guys in gunfights and get into fast car chases, but doing so is unequivocally lethal and dangerous, and if you fuck up even a little bit, you're screwed. At the same time though, there is a lot of QOL improvements in the remake; it took me half a day to get through the appropriately titled "Better Get Used To It" either because Paulie kept on getting beaten up by goons that you're supposed to hit in the head with a bat (which is a lot harder than it sounds) or I kept on getting shot to death because-as you mentioned-there's no cover mechanic. Even though I think the best way to experience it is to play the remake on Classic difficulty, you should give the PC port of the original Mafia a try; the console versions are shitty.

Unpopular opinion however, those who say BF is a good pirate game and a crap AC game must have something wrong with their brains. After finishing the part 1 remake I immediately started another playthrough of part 2. At release I didn't mind how Joel got killed as I thoroughly enjoyed the rest of the game. But now I must say the writers should have taken another approach on how Abby and Joel meet each other as the latter is really waaaaay to trusty in that situation. I totally understand that years living in Jackson, surrounded by friends and family have soften him up quite a bit, but it's no excuse to tell total strangers your name and where you live in an apocalyptic setting. It's such a weak premise to start a revenge story based on some very stupid mistakes of survival veterans who must know better! Other than that, it baffles me how a pregnant woman goes on a super dangerous mission in a super dangerous world full of bandits and fungus-zombies instead of staying home and bear the freakin child first! A case has to be said that Odin’s menacing and anticipation was done so well in the first version of Norse God of War. Even his reveal was something to behold. His effects to the world from the spirits, Mimir etc was a good setup for what’s to come. But I think Cory’s decision to visually introduce him in the game that he also dies causes some pace issues which mostly causes Odin to not compete with Zeus in the cases Zeus won. I'll tell you as GOW 2018 was my first GOW game, it was absolutely bone chilling. because I knew very little about Kratos, but the game upto that moment did a fabuolous job in building his past in subtle ways. And ofcourse when i saw the blades, I freaked outt, as even if you have never played a GOW game before, as a gamer, you are pretty aware of the old school Kratos.

Man, that console port of Mafia looks rough. The PC version is much better, although still very hard and with a lot of driving, but that's part of the game's identity. It's more of a mobster simulator than a crazy sandbox like GTA. The remake "fixes" the more obtuse mechanics, but also loses the unique identity and plays like every other open world cover shooter.

Sleeping dogs is way better than any GTA game. I'll die on this hill. The combat, story, world, characters, everything are all better than any GTA.

I was SUPRISED at just how much vitriol you had for Mafia's combat, considering it's attempt at realism made it come off as more of a milsim but for gangsters. A Gangsim. I'll get my coat. But I also realized you're playing the PS2 version, and I just wondered why? Considering that the PC version is not that hard to get running and goes on sale fairly often, and probably is more endemic of how the game was meant to be played. Any reason is a fair one. Convenience. Price. Not wanting to bother to patch it. But I do feel that if that was the version played you might be humming a different tune. Maybe not the "this is the best game on the list", but maybe it would have been just a bit higher. Also, complete side note, your review of it was absolutely hilarious considering that it was pretty much the exact opposite of reviews at the time. i agree with you on all of it except design, i think they both should have gotten a point, because lets face it. zeus fits his design, i mean most gods in greek wore basic clothing, because of the climate, it wouldn't make sense to be layered as a god in greek.

I agree about True Crime: New York City, except I like Nick much more than Marcus. I love the first Saints Row just as much as 2. Also, I like that the protagonist was mostly silent. That made it more immersive for me. I didn't like that the shops didn't close in Saints Row 2 for the theft diversion.
