Wonderful experience for millions of chess aficionados who are not able to go to mamallapuram to see this Great and prestigious event . Unimaginable great work by the Tamil Nadu Government in a short time of 3 months by our honourable CM who gave the nod for the tournament within seconds of the AICF teams request to him would etch his name forever in history as a Patron of this Great Game of Chatrungha or chess which originated in India and spread to the World . It would be wonderful if our foreign guests can be taken for a tour to see the marvellous Sea Shore Temple of the Pallavas and scores of ancient Temples of chola period near by with immensely beautiful Architecture as well as to St. Thomas Mount near Guindy where the Apostle St. Thomas, the disciple of Lord Jesus Christ was martyred over 2000 years ago and so many other heritage sites . Tamilians are simple and peaceful and loving and very kind people who welcome Guests of all countries and other States to live here and do their business as history has proved in the past and this glorious trait continues till this day . Tamilians have welcomed the arrival of Saurashtrians , the great weavers of Saurashtra who thronged our Tamilnadu centuries back because of war and persecution and who are very successful in the Silk Kanchipuram silk business as well as Gujarathis and Marwaris and many traders of North India who came here in the nineteenth century and Romans who came in the 1st century as well as Armenian Traders as well as Jews and many other people too . The centuries old Armenian church at Armenian Street where all the Armenian Traders lived and attended church service stands testimony even now to their glorious past . The Romans who were known as yavanas were also used by Ancient Sangam Age Chola kings as mercenaries and they had living quarters and all these foreign traders who came to India did good business by importing pepper and other spices which was the black gold at that time and brought horses and roman and silver gold coins to buy them . Our Ancient Sangam literature has much details about the commerce and life style of the ancient Tamilians of 300 BC till 2 nd century AD. Much gold was drained from the Romans treasury that the Roman Statesmen of that period complained in the forum about the gold of Rome being used in buying pepper and other spices to give taste to the tasteless meat and other cuisine of the Romans Kings and Nobles and Aristocrats . It is interesting to note that after the sea route to India was discovered in 1498 by Vasco da Gama , the Portuguese who came one century before the British east India company of 1600 were surprised to find a church and sepulchre of St Thomas at San Thome near Mylapore when they came to chennai in 1500 and they built a wonderful church at Luz, mylapore meaning light in 1514 and a wonderful church at St. Thomas Mount in 1526 which still stands testimony to the visit of the Apostle of Lord Jesus Christ to chennai over 2000 years ago . Foreign visitors who have faith in Lord Jesus Christ should certainly visit this holy place and not miss it which is in Chennai very near to Guindy and the place is also known as St Thomas Mount . At Little mount , Saidapet where St Thomas hid when going to St Thomas Mount there is a church and a cave where visitors can go and see . Please also don’t forget to visit if possible the 1 st century AD church oldest church in Asia at Thiruvithancode near Thuckalay , kanya Kumari district where St Thomas came and started the first church . As a Tamilian , I welcome 🙏 all the visitors to this wonderful memorable prestigious chess tournament, and wish that your stay would be extremely happy and memorable that you would cherish all your life time whenever you reminisce about these sweet chess memories , and wish that you and your families and friends would plan a trip to visit Tamilnadu as well as our great and beautiful Indian Nation with bountiful nature spots and extremely beautiful and amazing temples throughout this lovely country in your life time .
