Same here. I love cherry wood furniture that has been cared for and polished even though it is considered out of style. My house is filled with it. I would have loved to have gotten that Secretary desk you showed was in that antique store. I've always wanted one, but they were around $800 new back in the 70's.

I absolutely am so in love with that armoire. It’s amazing that you found it. Another idea to cover up any holes in the back, is to get a piece of thin plywood or even a heavy card board, measure it out to the size of the back of the self and either put an ornate floral wallpaper or a beautiful tapestry and pop it in to the back of the shelf securely. Do it for each shelf and you’ll have a beautiful background/backdrop in your armoire.

I totally agree with the sentiment of not designing based on what's in style. I've been slowly accruing items I like over the decades and replacing all my temporary functional necessities with long term staples that bring me joy. I'm going for Steampunk Pirate, overall... It's taken me a while, but with patience and creativity, and many, many thrift stores, yard sales, estate auctions, etc., I'm finally starting to achieve the overall desired outcome and my home is my happy place.
