@Miasma Water settings are the most difficult and expensive settings to work with in live action movies, you must be joking if you think comparing a movie that takes place on land and inside of actual cities to a movie that takes place underwater and in impossibly fictional cities makes sense.

The problem is, how do you judge whether to go see it or not? Yes, marketers are giving away too much these days. When you go into it knowing major plot twists, it ruins it. Like so and so ends up being a bad guy, etc. You should have a taste of what you are getting into, but not everything you're in for.

Timliu92 the nun scare in the sequel fucking got me man, stuff of nightmares. He knows how to build atmosphere and tension. If you have ADD or any sort of anxiety issue, you're best moving on cuz his movies could really traumatize you or at least make you look over your shoulder in the dark. James Wan is pretty reliable as a director for a good scare.
@nirberman830
@nirberman830 6 жыл бұрын
the nun scare is ok. it just gets you for a sec maybe a nightmare after (highly unlikely). but the real shit is the creepiness and imagery that sticks with you. things in the corner you notice on second viewing that scares even more. conjuring is a one time watch. unlike other horror films. and yes "true story" and all adds to the creepiness but not really. that atmosphere he builds releases after the jump scare until it builds up again for another. i prefer horror films that hold that tension and atmosphere for the entire film until the end!

The thing that I liked about this film was that the majority of it was set in the day time, with a house FULL of people who were all on their guard and proactively trying to solve the situation, and the lights were always on... *"TURN THE LIGHT ON, DAMMIT! WHY WOULD YOU GO DOWNSTAIRS IN THE PITCH BLACK?!?!"* ^ I'm usually shouting this bullshit at the screen, but this film never called for it. Despite this, it managed to have many scary moments. You don't expect scares outside the house in the middle of the day, but when that sheet got blown off the line and wrapped around the invisible figure I winced in disgust. It was just disturbing - the idea that it was just there in the open but you couldn't see it. It's not the best film ever made, but it's a decent horror movie in a genre that I find particularly lacking these days.

I feel like they were maybe garnering interest, so if the film was a big hit, they may do a prequel explaining the doll and the process of everything involving it. To be honest I felt the movie should have focused more on the doll and the demon involved with it. I was much more interested in that aspect of the story than the actual demon they were dealing with. It was a decent movie, but scare factor wasn't that major, and I felt the movie just seemed out of order.

I thought this was an okay film, but I just can't see how this is one of the best horror film of the past decade. I find James Wann to be a gimmicky filmmaker. I think he's excellent at building tension, but then it dives deep into the theatrics. It worked with audiences, though, and people were engaged with the film so I'm clearly in the minority. I would nominate The Descent as being the standout horror film of the past decade.

I absolutely loved this film. I thought it was a great horror/suspense film. Honestly, when a film is spoiled, it is always the marketing's fault. In my opinion, the BEST SCARE is when the mother is locked in the basement and the ghost claps his hands behind her. They completely gave that scene away in the trailer. Half of all the best scares were spoiled in the trailers. I agree that the mother was the best character in this film, Lili Taylor's performance was so genuine and amazing. Vera and Patrick were also incredible. They really showed their struggle of having to do their jobs, what they're good at, while also being parents and having to be there for their daughter. Vera and Patrick brilliantly acted that aspect of their characters as well as showing how dangerous de-bunking myths and ghost/demon stories can be. Ron Livingston was dull and boring. Just like any other horror film, it did have cliches, but they were brilliantly crafted.

The Conjuring was a very excellent horror film! I thought it was great! fantastic directing and Cinematography, as well as a terrifying atmosphere. But i think the acting was the best part of the movie. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga work really well together and are terrific in this movie, same as Ron Livingston and Lili Taylor, and all the kid-actresses. But the best part of this movie for me personally is Vera Farmiga. I'm a huge fan of her, she's one of my favorite actresses. She's given great performances in movies like Down to the bone, Orphan, and the current tv series Bates Motel. To this day I still feel like she's massively underrated, but i still think she's proven herself to be a masterclass actress!!!!

The part where the white linen sheets are flapping on the clothesline in the bright sunny daylight sealed the deal for me. That is a completely original scene and yet it's a reference to the most mundane horror prop in the history of horror movie props. That's the art of a gifted director. You think you know what's going to happen but in reality you don't have any idea what's about to happen next.

When i first watched this movie i thought it was a parody, something like scary movie. Then i realized they were taking the story seriously. Come the fuck on! They just mashed every horror movie in existance together in a ridiculous plot of ghostbusters vs the exorcist. I really cant understand why people liked it so much. I even took annabelle more seriously, and that's saying something.

Obviously there are some overused tropes in the film, but the married psychics & the case that the film is based around are (in a legitimate way for once) based on "true" stories (as in, the non-supernatural storyline is based on real people and events; the supernatural stuff, of course, can't be proven to be "true", but the people are real and so was the family they took care of).

And I think at least some people share my opinion here. To me, it was nothing spectacular, but instead just a cliche'd Stall flick

I watched this last night and thought it was very well made. Like, there is just so many shots from inside that house! I cant imagine how they manage to follow the cast through tight hallways and crawl spaces to the point where you feel you're right there! I'm realy happy I didn't see any trailers for this so the scares weren't ruined for me (although I did recognise that "clap clap" scare from somewhere). It's good watching these things years after they faded from memory because you watch the way the director wanted you to watch.

Not sure if someone mentioned it but, the oldest daughter I believe of the Perron family wrote a series of three books. "House of Darkeness, house of light" telling the story of what happened over a decade of them living in the house. Reading them next. Reading "The Demonologist" which is about the warrens career. Wasn't scared much by the movie but really enjoyed it. Right on with the trailers.

I remember watching this movie with a few friend... A teacher had treated us to this movie. This girl sitting next to me basically covered her face with her hoodie every time something jumps out. And when the sound effects died down, she would turn around and ask me what had happened. EVERY TIME. After the movie, when we were discussing about the scary scenes, this girl had the audacity to say that it’s not scary at all... 😂🤦🏻‍♀️ And I’m just standing beside be like: “What, bisch?” 🤷🏻‍♀️

I didn't like this all that much, to be honest. Maybe because it had been so hyped as the scariest thing ever. That demon is super strong but cannot kill any single person?! You have got to be kidding me. All those kiddies, zero deaths. It had its moments, hide and clap was the highlight for me (even if the trailer killed it for me) and it was well shot but it was not even remotely scary.

When people ask me about this movie, I find a hard time explaining why exactly it ranks right up there with some of my favorite horror films. Imo, it boils down to the costuming (worn, 70's era clothing), the awesome casting (the kid actors in this one absolutely NAIL it), and the refreshingly frightening twist on an overworked plot line (nice family moves into old house that turns out to be haunted). Sure, it doesn't leave your mind in shambles like The Shining, but it will scare you for sure.

There are some true elements in this movie; the clocks all stopped at 3:07, which was based off a specific instance of this occurring in my hometown in Connecticut. My mother grew up with a girl who, along with her family, reported hearing footsteps and doors shutting when everyone was in their rooms and accounted for. Their clocks would also all stop in unison at around 3:00. Just a fun fact there. I actually drive by that house quite a lot, it's up for rent now...

And another rant, it annoys the hell outta me when people go on about the film not being scary. This is a film meant to ENTERTAIN, it doesn't want to traumatize people. Its meant to give a good scare, something memorable and job done. Which is what it did for most people. What really got me was the witch stroking Annabelle's hair in the rocking chair. SO creepy and quite scary.

I reckon this film deserves some serious recognition & I feel it's ratings have suffered a lot from the spoilers. I was instantly sucked into this film. I didn't think the tension let up for a second. The first half didn't feel slow at all to me. One of the scariest films I've ever seen.

Just rewatched it and man, this one is damn good. It's not revolutionary and it wasn't aiming to be. It's just a well made ghost story. The movie is at its best during its most understated moments. There's some good creepy shit. James Wan really knows how to direct a movie. The thing that bothers me are those bombastic, over the top scenes. I just don't like that type of horror, it's not scary to me. I also think they don't fit here, considering that for the majority of the movie, it isn't that. This is also the main reason that I haven't watched the other movies in The Conjuring Universe yet. It always seemed like they doubled down on this aspect that I didn't like about this first one. But that's about to change, I wanna watch 'em all! Anyway, this one's good. Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson are honestly perfect.

No, I'm sorry, but The Conjuring was boring. I've just watched it. In last 5 years there was not a single horror movie which impressed me. I'm pretty sure that horror movies need a good story too (I mean ghost horror). The viewer has to feel sympathy for characters (victims of the curse) and maybe for a ghost as well. For example, american remake of the first Ring was great. Intriguing story, mysterious girl, detective-like clue hunting. I have really enjoyed whole movie. Sadly, but next movies were weak. They used same image of hairy girl, but didn't write appealing script, and you all know that using of same thing again and again is boring. Another examples that come to my mind are The Grudge and chinese movie "The Eye" (remake with Jessica Alba is shitty). They were nice. For me. PS. yes, english is not my native.

Say what you want but i thought it was less than average and if you like it that's fine I won't take that from you but I don't understand why everyone likes it.
