@@jarricah7920 your using the same logic as her. She knew he was in a bad state of mind. He doesn't need to hear things that would encourage him to kill himself. He was literally finding excuses NOT to do it and she continued to try and force him to do it. She manipulated him into thinking suicide is what he needed, when it wasn't. Suicidal people do not always want to go to their own parents to talk about their problems. He only kept talking to her because she manipulated him into thinking she knew what was best

@@jarricah7920 take it from someone who was suicidal but wanted help, I did not want to go to my parents. I didn't even speak to my mother about being depressed until after I'd finally gotten myself out of it. Most suicidal people are looking for reasons to stay, and most of them won't talk to their family about it because they don't want to hurt them/don't think they'll understand. This girl was a monster who took advantage of him to get him to take his own life. from his texts you can tell he wanted her to give him any reason to stay. Maybe he even hoped that if she - the girl who'd been pushing him into it for weeks - finally gave him a reason to stay it would mean something. He likely believed that when she consistently told him to go it meant he was unwanted.

@@JulezwithTrueCrimeReactions If she was "tired of his pity party" she could've left him. She obviously wanted the attention that losing your significant other would give you. At least that's what the way she acted after his death indicates. I could've understood your argument if she just wrote "Just do it then, I'm done." or something like that just once. Instead she literally brought it up for 11 days straight until he finally did it. Have you read the texts? When they were having a casual conversation she would ask "when are you gonna do it?" Out of the blue. When he didn't answer the question she started guilt tripping "Why are you ignoring the question? Just do it. Stop overthinking it." No videos have done this case any justice. If you read the whole conversation, as well as what she wrote to her friend it's pretty obvious he didn't want to do it. Claiming he "wouldn't have done it if he didn't want to" is like claiming that people that get forced into having sex by continuously getting asked until they give in, is doing it consensually. Him trying to take his own life prior to this doesn't say shit either. Some people actually want help but don't know how to ask for it. In their case the (often a poor) attempt is the cry for help. If he really wanted to die, he wouldn't have needed her to convince him. She spent days, even weeks just pushing him. Telling him to simply "do it now" and making him promise he would do it. If you don't consider someone who continuously tell a person to commit suicide for 11 days straight, even give them places to go and the "best way to do it" a manipulator I genuinely don't know what your take on manipulating is.

I'm genuinely curious as to why people think she should be in jail for what she did. Yes, you should never tell someone to kill themselves, that is morally wrong. With all the evidence though, I think she thought she was helping him by forcing him to figure out he actually didnt want to die. In any case, what he did was his own choice and this is an invasion of freedom of speech imo. I also dont think this young man would want her in jail either. He clearly had problems well before he met her.

I agree. I've attempted suicide many times and I've told certain people almost every time and none of them would say I should die. He didn't wear her down and make her think he should die. If she truly cared for him, she would continue to try to help him, but no she tells him to go through with it instead. She might have cared before but not towards the end. She encouraged a depressed, suicidal, easy to manipulate person to go through with his death. She even said she wanted them to be like Romeo and Juliet but she didn't want to die. I mainly just have loads of questions based upon her like did it get too much for her to handle so she just thought about it that way? Didn’t she know how to get the help for him and maybe thought it’d be useless anyway? Did her troubled mind get in the way and think it’s the only way out in her mind so it’d be a way out for him? I’m just so confused by her actions. In no way am I making up excuses for her. I simply just want to know if she has or someone has some sort of reasoning behind her actions for her to change. She probably though she was making it better for, encouraging him to end his suffering. And That being said, I do not agree with what she did and the way she was behaving after his suicide is disturbing, but she did not kill him, he killed himself. @@annaz940 did you even watch the video? Sure, she may have talked him down at first, but when you start telling someone to kill themself, belittling them for not doing it when they said they were going to, thats when things get to far. She killed Conrad, she wasn't there to do it, but she was the reason he died. If he hadn't listened to her, if she'd called the police when he got out of his car because he was scared of dying, he'd still be alive. She killed Conrad, it doesn't matter that she wasn't there to beat him or shoot him or poison him. She's the reason he's dead. Yeah, she tried talking him down for the first year of their relationship and then what? She just got sick of him trying to commit suicide so she started telling him to just do it? In no way is it acceptable to tell someone to kill them self, to belittle someone for not committing suicide if they said they would. If she hadn't told him to get back in the car when he got out because he was fucking afraid to die, he'd still be alive. Assisted suicide is helping someone who wants to die, die. Conrad didn't want to die, not really, it's obvious by how many times he backed out of committing suicide. He needed help, medication, therapy, hospitalization. Not suicide. It's not euthanasia if you have to convince the person to do it, it's not euthanasia if the victim is scared out of their mind, and telling you they have second thoughts, it's not euthanasia if you call them a coward and tell them to "just do it already". It's murder

How about SHE should have not encouraged and borderline command a suicidal person to kill themself? That's what you're missing. No one could logically be so upset with her if she just stopped replying to him one day. She is definitely not obligated to be his caretaker. Of all the possible approaches to this situation, she picked the worst solution. And that's 100% her fault, mental illness or not. Hopefully she could get the appropriate help she desperately needs one day. This could haunt her for life.

She’s sick in a whole other way. She doesn’t deserve to be let off the way she is.

I know, a show will always be full of scenarios that never happened but it you compare it to the parallels in real life, you can see how out of her mind she was. Annie Robertson Honestly, I suspect the police only made it a manslaughter charge because she didn’t ‘physically’ kill him herself, so the law wouldn’t allow her to be charged with murder. If that’s the case, the law needs to be changed. But even if their hands were legally tied and they had no choice but to charge her with manslaughter, ‘involuntary manslaughter’ was 100% the wrong charge to use. This was a voluntary decision on her part. It wasn’t heat of the moment. None of the other criteria I saw when I looked up the legal definition of involuntary manslaughter were met either, in my opinion. Should’ve been voluntary manslaughter at the bare minimum, if not outright murder.

Some people find comfort in the fact that it was a "success" for that person in question. I get what you're saying, but what you're saying only applies to the people left behind, not the peace someone who committed suicide might have. I feel comfort in the fact that (if there ever is an afterlife) my best friend 10yrs ago will feel like she had success because it was the last thing she ever did, and is in a place she really wanted to be, because she sure as h hurt some people over here by doing that, so she better feel that way! . 🤷🏻‍♀️ I hope you get what I'm saying 😅

One of the definitions of "Successful" is literally just "having the desired result" so this just seems unnecessarily pedantic tbh. No one hears "successful suicide attempt" and has some kind of impression of it being a good thing or something to celebrate. I understand words have connotations but context is also important I genuinely do not think a change in language at all influences how people think of suicide or would change a suicidal person's mind about suicide bc someone said "completed suicide" instead of "successful suicide." I appreciate and admire what you do but this just doesn't seem necessary. Just my opinion.

I was a suicidal teen and spent time in a hospital because of it. I died twice and was brought back but spent 3 days in a comma and 4 more recovering. That was just one time of the many. I won’t go into the whys but I will tell you this. When someone truly wants to die they tell no one what they’re planning. They pretend to be just fine and never give any kind of clue. There is nothing your mother could’ve done to change it. If you want to you can show her this and hopefully it will help some. I lost my sister two year ago at 36 years old to cancer. It’s devastated me, I do t know how to move forward and can’t go backwards. I’m so torn up that I don’t want to go forward, I don’t want to make new memories she won’t be part of or laugh at things she would’ve found hilarious. It’s a loss that I don’t know how to live with and I still cry most days. Her grief is never going to go away but she has to stop blaming herself because it’s not her fault and if it could’ve been changed it would’ve. As I said people who truly want it all to end don’t tell anyone that’s why they can’t be stoped. They don’t show any signs or leave an clues and no one can change it but them. I got lucky and was found before it was to late. I’m grateful now to be alive but back then I truly wanted to die and I told no one what I was planning so no one could stop me.

I'll admit, it can be frustrating, but I would never in a million years convince someone to go through with it because I :got annoyed" or because I want to "play the victim." I have many mental illnesses, but that is not an excuse. Yes, mental illnesses can mess with someone's thinking or emotions, but it rarely ever a valid excuse, especially in cases like this. You can't control your emotions, but the majority of the time you can control your actions and how your emotions influence them. A reason is one thing, an excuse is another.

Hi love🙏❤️ Thank you So Much for doing this case... MAJORITY OF US here in Massachusetts are DISGUSTED with Michelle.... 15 months???? This was on our local news again today because she is appealing the 15 months... she has a “slimy defense lawyer” and they just keep saying that he was responsible for his actions.... Most of us in Boston feel like she should be serving a Much longer jail sentence... I think at least 25 yrs and I feel she should have to volunteer for the rest of her life with people who are suicidal with supervision at all times of course or do something like that... she cut her hair short and looks really thin now... thinner than before.... meaning I think her mental health is not good,.... why would it be?? “Did you delete the messages?” If THAT doesn’t prove intent and guilt then I don’t know what does!??? Poor Conrad’s family, His Aunt was so broken on the news this morning 😢😟😓💔 God Bless Conrad and his family🙏 May they get the justice they so deserve.....

@@toml3051 Who the f cares. She manipulated a mentally ill person, to me that's worse than running someone over (I ain't justifying running someone over obviously). He was frail and needed care and she took advantage of it. If I lived near her she'd be dead, like freaking dead. I can't begin to comprehend how people didn't try to maul her yet. Killing a frail person obviously should get people more angry than killing a person that is mentally okay because they stand no fucking chance, like a child. They're defenceless. That's why it should get more time than running over someone that is more "strong" mentally. It takes a special kind of evil to manipulate a DEPRESSED person into killing themselves. A really special kind.

As someone with suicidal tendencies... I want this woman to be in jail. Everytime I see someone in pain, all I want to do is help. I do everything I can to stop one from ever having the kind of thoughts I do. Coercing someone to go through with their pain, instead of overcoming it, just shows total lack of empathy. She only cared about her own mental health.

I’m from Massachusetts and this case shook the whole community!😭 such a tragedy.. I honestly think she was really trying to get attention from his death and she completely meant to pressure him into suicide as sad as that is the receipts are in there and this poor boy is now no longer with us.. Two years isn’t enough time for her she needs to be locked up in jail and or sent to a mental hospital for what she has done.. she knew he was in a vulnerable state and she took advantage of him anyways to me she’s not a good person and needs to be held accountable for her actions and I believe a harsher sentence is needed for her actions

I JUST talked about this case in my Abnormal Psychology class at university. Everyone thinks that she needs a MUCH harsher sentence, except this ONE guy in the class said that it wasn't her fault and that she shouldn't be held responsible in any way for his death. Like WHAT?! She told him to kill himself and HOW, she took advantage of a mentally ill person, and clearly she knows exactly what she was doing because she admitted it to a friend! Of course this case angers me, but it was on another level for this guy in my class to say that she had nothing to do with it. Come on.

Bee Cherry tbh after hearing the first few texts I felt sorry for her- it’s hard when you are supporting someone who is suicidal every day. However towards the end she outright tells him to commit suicide. so that guy must have done some mental gymnastics to come to his conclusion that she had nothing to do with his death .

Girls shouldn’t be responsible for fixing their boyfriends mental health or vise versa for that matter BUT this isn’t a case of that. This is a case of Michelle knowing what Conrad was planning to do and instead of trying to get him help and talking him out of it she was complicit and WILLING to have her boyfriend die while on the phone. She instructed an at risk individual on how to kill himself and that is inexcusable behavior and clearly she knew that because afterwards she felt bad, and she didn’t feel bad for helping Conrad kill himself but she felt bad because she knew she would get in trouble. All of her tears are because she feels bad for herself. That’s just one psych majors opinion though

The thing that upsets me about the comment Eleanor mentioned is that it's not about "fixing" him. She DID basically bully him into doing it though and that's not the same thing at all. If she had just broken up with him and not engaged in conversations about suicide, I would maybe agree with the statement.

I think Michelle's ultimate fate could possibly be more fitting than any prison sentence. I've been reading recent articles on Karen Mathews, detailing what her life is like after her release from prison. They state that even now, Karen is still being berated and shamed for what she did to her daughter over a decade ago. She constantly has to move from place to place every time she's recognised or word gets out that she's living in an area. But no matter how many times she moves or what she does, or claims to be doing to change, someone will always remember her and openly show their disgust for her. Michelle committed a terrible act to get attention but as soon as she gets out of custody, I think she'll find she's getting attention for reasons she never wanted. She wanted to get sympathy as a grieving girlfriend but now everyone knows the truth and that's never going away. Just like Karen, she's marked for life as an evil person. She'll be never again be welcome in her hometown, in her community or maybe even her state. No matter where she goes, everyone around her will know her for what she's done and even if she gets a new identity, the moment someone learns of who she was, she'll immediately become a hated outcast. Welcomed by no one, shunned in the street and driven out of town again and again. She will never be able to leave what she did to Conrad in the past. Any attempts she makes to start a new life will be short lived before being forced to try and fail again. I honestly think this will be the rest of Michelle Carter's life and I can't think of anyone who deserves it more than her.

i was best friends with the same boy my entire life growing up. we fell in love and were together for years, when he fell into a deep depression. i did everything i possibly could. i called him every night before bed when he moved away, even though there was a huge time difference. i comforted him constantly. he just started to close up, and wouldn’t tell me anything anymore. it was heart breaking. one night we got into a nasty fight, and I went to bed. he called me 5 times. he texted me 17 times. i still have saved voicemails. i was the last person he talked to, his last text was “I’m so sorry, little fish. please keep fighting for the both of us. i love you so much.” i panicked when i woke up and called his mom. i had to hear her open his door, drop the phone, scream and cry. i was on that phone for 47 minutes. this is the most painful thing I’ve EVER had to live through, and hearing someone else ENCOURAGE their boyfriend to do this just to claim they’re a victim is actually nauseating. Suicide is never okay, and men feel this way too, and take up almost 70% of suicides. Please care for those around you.

I had a mentally ill boyfriend who lived over 1000 miles away. We "dated" online my freshman year of high school. There were so many times that he tried to kill himself and I talked him out of it. I tried to get a restraining order because he began harassing me because I wanted to break up. He sent things to my address, messaged me everywhere, had friends and random people messaging telling me he's trying to kill himself. He said that if he died it would be my fault. I get that he "wasn't her problem", neither was my boyfriend I could have blocked him and ignored him. But I have a heart and it killed me to think someone could die and I did nothing to help. She should have done absolutely everything different and I think she's fully responsible for this and deserves life in prison. I think this was 100% her fault and I hate the justice system. I hate how she is being set free for what she did. I've gone through a lot of mental problems and that relationship took a toll on me but never once did I tell him to do it. I mentally strained myself to make sure he was ok. I had a judge tell me that I should just let him do it because then he'll be out of my life.... There are sick people in this world and he didn't deserve all that mental abuse. She *COULD* have done something.

I remember reading about this case when it was still pretty recent. Reading the texts she sent him is what made me start to cry even harder than I was before. It honestly scared me so much. I text the people closest to me saying I love them and even wrote my dad a letter expressing my feelings (i was sad about the case) and that I love him a lot and hope he's okay. I was genuinely shaken and very upset. It's so scary how well someone can hide their pain and no one may know but the person they do confide in, guide them through the steps as if it's a video game walkthrough. I wish he had confided in someone closer to him that could have gotten him the proper help. It saddens me tremendously that it is too late. I'm also extremely alarmed that her friend didn't go to authorities about Michelle telling them that she instructed Conrad back into the car. Absolutely terrifying to me that it was "their secret." Unless I'm incorrect and she did, I'm not certain but if that's the case, how sad. My heart is broken for the family. Also, this is my first time ever commenting on one of your videos but I watch a ton of them. You have an incredible way of telling each case as well as being incredibly engaging. Surely your school presentations were awesome? If you celebrate the holidays, merry Christmas Eleanor and thank you for the quality you consistently put out 💖
