So grateful to have stumbled on this podcast in my search for things about alien/paranormal experiences. Appreciate how simultaneously out there and grounded your take on things is. I saw a UFO when I was teenager and resonate with so much that I’m hearing as I listen to this over coffee

Ok, member of the Jungian Society of KC plus i have seen the orbs outside my plane window -also believe in science and logic. Early life experiences would be considered more traumatic than most. I had a few poltergeist experiences as a kid. My pull down, spring-loaded shades went up by themselves when I was an early teenager, for example. My son, who didn't have much trauma like I did was doing 'the force' on things outside, and force-pushed our streetlight over to the ground. If I hadn't seen it I wouldn't have believed it. I have also noticed that in stressful life experiences during meditation, if I am feeling a lot but not letting into my awareness, it will "go outside of me into the world." And things will happen in the room. Once I am able to integrate the stressful experience, it no longer needs to impact the area around me physically. If I don't find a way to integrate it after a prolonged period of time(left brain being able to explain healing advice to right hemisphere) then it becomes stuck and impacts my amygdala or body brain. That starts a disease process. Therefore, one's conscious energy that cannot find an immediate outlet in the psyche is "pushed out" into the material world in twisted ways. The orbs I saw were "out there" and were a different energy than this, however. At first I thought it was a reflection on my window, then my glasses. When both of those were negative I realized they were actual things down above the cloud deck at around 10K feet. They were going to and fro -about 5 of them. This was over Atlanta around 2000 and I was in my 30's by that time. Later I learned they were known as Foo Fighters. Also my adoptive father, who was a Navy pilot in the 1950's saw craft streak at incredible speeds, stop, then move at 90 degree angles. He says with a straight face they were from another world. They were over Long Island and the incidents were seen by thousands and were reported in the NY Times. He was as good as of an observer as I have ever known. He was described by someone that knew him as a person of logic. He was also an amateur meteorologist . The head of the National Weather Service was a friend of his, for example. So, things are connected to consciousness yes...but also there are things out there that are seen by many, that are not mass hallucinations, nor emerging archetypes, or seen only by liberal/lefties(my dad is extremely conservative, for example -NOT religious, just conservative.) That is my two cents.

I went through a period of seeing ufos which lasted several years , i had the most sightings during the first year then the experiences began to become less common as the years progressed until they eventually stopped altogether . During this period our home was infested by paranormal type activity . We had poltergeist eruptions where things would get thrown about , disembodied footsteps , whispering , huge explosions or loud bangs , pops , cracks . We saw tiny orange orbs in the house on several occasions . There was shadow people creeping around the house and doors were constantly opening by themselves ,especially the front door to the house . My mother in law had her hair pulled while sitting in my kitchen which absolutely terrified her ,she never came back for months after . I once had a bizarre phone call on my mobile straight after a ufo sighting i had while i was on a roof replacing the tiles . I feel the ufo and paranormal occurrences are connected . The intensity and regularity of the ufo sightings were kinda in lockstep with how much paranormal stuff was erupting in our house . The poltergeist type stuff has stopped , it petered out at the same time the ufo experiences did . I dont think the ufos are aliens from another galaxy and neither do i think the poltergeist and shadow people are visits from the dead . i think both of these things are different facets of the exact same phenomenon . Both the ufo and polt experiences caused huge spikes in anxiety , i can say they had a very negative effect on my life . With hindsight i would even go as far as to call it harassment . Sometimes i wonder if they feed on the psychic energy of the witnesses like vampires and those who react the strongest to the strangeness become like a fast food joint and suffer repeat visits . .

This was awhile ago, so I promise to go on and listen to more shows. At this stage, I find it commendable to see people coming at the phenomenon from a genuinely intellectual point of view. A suggestion (which by now you perhaps have found out on your own): there are _many_ sides to the Ufological community. Some are, as you say, politically rigid and brittle. But there are also many researchers approaching the Phenomenon from well-reasoned, well-examined premises. You need at least a couple of years of reading, listening, and study before you gain a solid grasp of the broad spectrum of ideas inherent in our topic. Personally, I've been at this for 50-years plus of continuous and honest work, and yet I still find attitudes that surprise, educate, and entertain me. May the journey be just as spiritually and intellectually refreshing for you!

When i began researching all of this, I set out with 2 goals 1. to prove that these "ETs" are here to help us and 2. to prove they are actually here to deceive humanity and cause harm. My findings have been very eye opening (to say the least) as I'm sure you can understand why. My question is through your years of research do you think it is possible that we are witnessing 2 separate phenomena? I also feel like one of them is almost "playing off" of the other more so now than every before in history but I'm not sure if I'm crazy thinking this or if there is actually some logic to it. Just thought I would pick your brain. Thanks!

I'm about halfway into this. It's really fascinating. I had a similar experience with loss of faith when I was a teenager that lasted a few years. It wasn't preceded by a sighting, but a voice I almost heard aloud saying "there is no God." It freaked me out, and subsequently started to feel like I had committed the unforgivable sin. It took a strong experience to replace my faith about 9 months later if I recall correctly. Some of the feelings described here were very relatable, although my experience seems less intense, and ended sooner.

@@AcidHorizon After being raised a fundamentalist Christian, I suddenly lost my faith, with no outside prompting, at age 13. There was a process I can remember, but I also relate to the guest in the video and his experiences. My loss of faith was not directly related to this, but I also was terrified of aliens and frequently felt they were in my bedroom watching me as a small child.

A somewhat obscure text by a (very) controversial author would be Nietzsche and the Eternal Return by Miguel Serrano, where he comes from a more esoteric Jungian position on UFOs and the Vimanas of Hindu Lore, wrapping it up with some of Nietzsche's ideas. Short read but one of his more interesting writings.

@@AcidHorizon Important disclaimer, he was a Nazi occultist who corresponded with Jung (who wrote a foreword to one of his books) and Herman Hesse. A fascinating figure tbh. Former diplomat for Chile before the Pinochet regime, he was friends with the Dalai Lhama and (reportedly) Indira Ghandi's lover (there's a picture of him at her funeral with the Dalai Lama). The esoteric Hitler nonsense aside, his prose is beautiful and poetic, very mystical. It is hard to sell him once you tell people of his views, but from a purely literary stance, he's a must read.

'did you see that too?' is always an interesting thing that comes up in these stories, because what if his friend, also a child, saw a bird or an air-caught piece of aluminum lined insulation or something else he wasn't looking at. how do they distinguish? what if the only difference is one person assumes a natural explanation but the other somehow has a human-evolved danger sense response that prompts them to 'see something more' like where it's not really irrational to be scared of a spider or snake shape because in evolution that is a beneficial trait. regardless of if that particular snake is non-poisonous. if that makes sense to explain the sightings. PS - but our knowledge of that same mental mechanism, dismissing something out of hand, not suspecting a potential "black swan" event, could very well be the reason you could scroll past a real ufo/craft image and not even know it in the clutter.

One of the most fascinating questions anyone can ask regarding "out-of-the-box" experiences (such as discussed here) is, "How did the experience change your (inner) life?" The answer, of course, depends largely on both the nature of the phenomenon and the fundamental psychological "robustness" of the person. There are those we might describe as "old hands" with regards to unconventional thought (like Karl Jung who visioned God dumping excrement on a church steeple in Vienna) that resulted in undaunted liberation from all the norms of the Viennese society (the box). There are also 'newbies' who may scramble back into it as quickly as possible -- or find the experience so disturbing that it radically depolarizes their psyches. With regard to our British friend, we can only hope that he came/comes to the conclusion that he'd been given the opportunity to see the world as it is -- and not how it's been programmed into him. This remains true whether he (and others) actually saw a "nuts and bolts" super-aeronautical craft or not...

I don't believe that a UFO experience should cancel out a religious belief and vice versa. I have experienced both, very strange experiences that proved to me that both are true. If you believe in God's creation, why should his creation merely stop on one planet only. Like I said, I have had both types of experiences and they both stay strongly impressioned upon me to this day.
