The Contract: Chicago's Police Union | Fault Lines

He campaigned on a promise of restoring "law and order", winning the endorsement of America's largest police union, the Fraternal Order of Police.
Now, as US President-elect Donald Trump prepares to take office, Fault Lines travels to Chicago to look at how a contract between the city and the Fraternal Order of Police gives police officers special privileges when they are being investigated in a shooting.
In the first 24 hours after a police-involved shooting, investigators are not allowed to question police.
Union officials describe it as a "cooling-off" period, but critics say it's created a culture of impunity, giving officers time to manipulate the facts.
There's no better example of this than the case of Laquan McDonald, who was shot and killed by police in 2014.
Officers allegedly intimidated witnesses, destroyed evidence, and filed false police reports claiming the teenager attacked them. But video of the incident told a different story: McDonald walking away as police officer Jason Van Dyke opened fire and shot him 16 times.
A mayoral-appointed task force which studied the union contract says it also makes it harder for police whistleblowers to report misconduct, and also mandates that police disciplinary records be destroyed after five years.
Fault Lines reporter Sharif Abdel Kouddous investigates whether a labour agreement between the City of Chicago and the Fraternal Order of Police is standing in the way of justice, transparency and accountability.

These video's always mention and forget to hit the importance of this statement. They mention the distrust between the community and the ones sworn to protect the community. Unfortunately The Supreme Court ruled on that the police do not have a constitutional duty to protect a person from harm, even a person obtained a court-issued protective order against a violent husband making an arrest mandatory for a violation. They do not and are not paid to serve and protect the community. Once people realize this we will see true change

I got arrested after an improper illegal search and seizure (and the officers of course lied in court about this) for small amount of drugs in Chicago and the judge on my case from Harrison and Kedzie district was at the time on a electronic monitoring ankle bracelet from the federal govt because of a federal indictment on charges of bribery and corruption, but was still allowed to be a judge on felony criminal court cases because he wasn't convicted yet.

About 15 yrs ago I and handful of friends used to buy moderate amount ($200-$800) of drugs heroin mostly from these 2 brothers for a period of 5 years. Typically they had a runner that did the transactions and only occasionally did the deed themselves and only to people that were long time daily customers. It was rare in the fact that they never really changed phone numbers, cars used and places they took place all unusual tactics of drug dealers. It was explained by some people who spread a rumor that they worked with the police somehow like one of the bros wife was cop, or their cousin and even that they used to be a cop themselves the details of the rumor changed but was always said police was in on it. One time came later at night and was bigger order, as I'm waiting in my car there was marked squad that pulled over and parked on same block so I called and said he gotta meet somewhere else police just pulled up and parked, and he said naw its cool its me come on over. Shocked I said wtf and saw him wave his hand out the squad window motioning me over, so walked up to the car and sure enough it was him in uniform. They had free reign for like 10 yrs until they both got popped by the feds and got like 40 yrs, they had a few nice houses on North side and the burbs, nice cars and the like all totaling in millions

Black communities need to come together to raise their children and try to assimilate more with law and order. Yes, there are unjust kilings by police all over the world. However, walking at some body trying to act "hard" like this kid did will always get you hurt or killed when dealing with police.
