I’m a Duramax guy. But, I’ll call a spade to spade when I see one. That 7.3 is a beast. That truck will have no problem hauling it. Maybe 8000 pounds, net.

It was hauling 14k pounds on that load. 5 tons in shingles, plus the trailer weights over 4k lbs. Thank you, brother. I like it quite myself, but I'm a cummins guy 😂

That truck has a cult following and for good reason. You prob know this but the 35s are hurting the hauling capacity and fuel efficiency. Then again on muddy sites and landfills they might be necessary. Anywhoose, liking the info you share, thank you. ❤

I bought a brand new F250 with the 7.3 in 2000. Regret selling it. Those trucks are tough. That load wasn’t too much for that truck.

What is your ideal rig for your business? Big box truck, bigger dump trailer/larger truck, hook lift truck?

My ideal rig would be a newer cummins, but I'm long ways from that. I focus on the residential market, so I don't want my equipment to be too big. The biggest dump trailer I'd probably ever get would be a 20ft gooseneck! I don't see a point in big box trucks. A big enclosed trailer would be more ideal in my opinion, it's easier to load. I have a 16ft enclosed trailer, but that is mostly used for moving side jobs!

@@JackofHaulTrades yeah I was curious as to you focusing more on the junk removal vs dumpster rental company what your ideal set up was. I’m a general contractor and I have found dumpster and dump trailers to be a great addition to all that we do. I have just an f350 and 2 dump trailers along with my vans and I sometimes contemplate a hook lift trucks but curious what dedicated haulers like your self prefer.

@mackwoodcock7484 I prefer the dump trailers they will fit in tighter spots then the roll offs. Yes, it's harder to load, but if your fit the loading is not a problem! I appreciate the question I had to think about it for a second 😂

If it's too full, don't take it. There's a reason bins are certain sizes. You can't fill a 40 yard bin full of concrete and expect anyone to take it.

Yes, I agree with you 100%. Because it was mixed with plywood and not stacked extremely well, I was okay with it. I DEFINITELY WOULDN'T HAUL A LOAD OF GRAVEL, DRIRT OR CONCRETE OVER HALF WAY FILLED. That's just asking for issues right there

You may or may not know. But you def wanna have that overdrive turned off when you’re pulling heavy in the old 7.3 with auto transmission bro. Might be worth upgrading the transmission cooler to a 6.0 if you haven’t already also 💪

Isn't overdrive for like tow haul mode? The truck had a new transmission put in at 300k miles by previous owner

6.0 transmission cooler is a must on the 7.3! And yes when towing heavy you should always have overdrive off

@@JackofHaulTrades Turning off overdrive prevents the truck from shifting into 4th gear, which is overdrive and technically not good to tow in. As far as heavily loaded trailers, pay attention to your trailer tires, they are a good indicator of when you are loaded heavy or overloaded. What was the dump fee on those shingles? Would have been near 450 bucks where i live!

@sethmeashey3219 dump fee was just under $400. I charged $810. I feel like it wasn't worth it 😅 I appreciate all the info on the towing. I literally was told that you turn that on when you're towing, lol. So, should I even mess with overdrive? What's the point of it? I couldn't find any good info on it..

Yessir you are correct. My bakes are super strong on my dump trailer. If I slam my breaks that thing stops, and if it's a light load it breaks so strong that it feels like it's pulling me backwards 😂

@@JackofHaulTrades - WOW! Crazy! Here in CO it would have been more like 40/ton. I dumped 20 squares of shingles a couple of weeks ago and it was about the same weight 5 tons. Profit is hard to come by with these types of loads unfortunately.

@@JackofHaulTrades u should be good I just wanted a strong trans it has steel billet parts inside that y it was 7000$ just change the fluid every 30 thousand miles it will be good if u run a tune keep it low egts will go threw the roof real fast u will brake a piston in half been there in fact the reason I keep this truck is I broke a piston and it drove 400 miles on a broke piston hauling a in closed trailer 28 ft long on my way to my cabin amazing

Roofers are the biggest liars in the world. They'll tell you it's one layer and it'll be 3. They always lie about their loads. If you got a honest one, you're lucky, I never work for roofers. They don't value what you do. They do not respect what you do.

I 100% agree with you. I also avoid them typically. I had one hire me just because they couldn't get a roll off. The access was so bad I learned my lesson right away I'm not working for that dude again I had to back out a few miles on a tini driveway and the owners of the property had flowers around the driveway and said my wife wanted to make sure you dont run the flowers over backing up lol
