I left my truck stock until after the warranty as well. Once the warranty was gone, I did a few upgrades but one thing I never skipped out on was the maintenance. I have a 15 year old truck that runs amazingly well still.

@steven clifford as long as your not modifying it, I'd at minimum follow the maintenance schedule your driving fits into. If you do that, I think your good. I over maintain, meaning about every 5k, even on diesels. Even though these engines are new. I check the oil levels often and you can tell so much just by looking at it, are there shiny things in the oil etc, does it look like water or discoloring.

@Roads To Nowhere they were always be conflicting stories. One person will say they have an eco-boost that failed at 10,000 miles. The other person will say they have an eco-boost with 400,000 miles on it. regular maintenance can only help a motor and not impact it negatively.

I've really enjoyed the analogies you have used in your videos. You're spot on. I've always been a G.M. guy, but they haven't done anything with big gas motors since the 8.1. I've driven Ford's 6.2 and was really impressed. I do have a variety of trailers with various cargo, so I'm not really concerned about fuel mileage to begin with. What I will say,is I am in no way interested in a diesel because I'm a truck driver by trade and the emissions strangle they put on these motors has made them unreliable and more expensive to maintain. Thanks...you and I are on the same page....I had the 8.1 in a avalanche, with the allison...what a beast...thirsty too...lol...at work when we don't haul with the big rigs...we have pickups...had two 6.4 hemis...died this summer....at 40k miles....the ford gassers just keep working both our v10s and the 6.2 s...it would have been sweet of gm brought that 8.1 with the allison 10 back..

Great video I have a 21 7.3 250 love it not worried. Like you say it's under warranty. So far 11k on it no problems except recalls even those were not a problem yet had them fixed anyway.

Great video, you know working the in the automotive field there are always the bad apples from every manufacturer. When people say a motor is bad we’ll that’s because they listened to one persons story. I work on the big three day in and day out but regardless of what others say I mostly see Chevy and dodge pickups. And not because they are bad products but because people don’t respect their vehicles and don’t maintain them. I remember the high amount of Gm vehicles that had lifter and cam issues and guess what they still do. People will say gm is better or ford or Dodge but it’s all what you like and need out of a vehicle all you have to do is maintain them and they will last. Again great video keep on truckin

Our 2020 F350 7.3 Tremor great at only 39K miles with 4:30 rear. A lot of highway miles at 85 mph at 12.8 mpg. Did not buy for fuel economy. It fit our needs. No issues and no regrets.

I like your video. I have a 2020 f250 with the 7.3, 4.30 gears, Lariat. I put 295 70 r18 Falken Wildpeak on it. I also broke my valance in the snow. I put the Tremor valance on for extra ground clearance. I lost 1mpg with the new valance. 13.8 mpg highway consistently. I traded in my 2015 f150 5.0 with th HD payload package for a more capable towing truck. Only thing I don't pass is a gas station for a quick drink of fuel.

I agree. I purposely traded in my 2019 F-250 XLT Premium trim level (6.2L 6 speed auto) just to get the new 7.3L Godzilla and the 10 speed auto. I spent 8 months searching the Ford inventory (Oct 2019 - May 2020) until I found my new and current truck, a 2020 F-350 Lariat 7.3L Godzilla and I don't regret it for a second. This has been not only one of the best trucks I've ever bought but actually the BEST truck I've ever bought. It's not a new concept, this Godzilla motor. Conventional cam-in-block, push rod motors have been around forever. These were the motors back in the 1960's/1970's when we had our American muscle cars (Chevelle SS396, Mopar 383 and 440 big blocks as well as the 426 Hemi and the 350 Chevy motors and 340 Mopar motors, etc, etc) so I had no problem diving right into a new truck with this motor. To each, his own. But for myself, I'm a happy camper with the 7.3L Godzilla.

Good video, lot of truth to what you said. One thing I remind people about work trucks and changing oil. It may be more important to watch engine hours than engine mileage. I know my work trucks idle a lot and thats hard on oil. I shoot for 200 hours.

I honestly I was going to shy away from the 7.3 because of all the lifter/cam stories. But after watching this I understand where you are coming from so I think I am back in the game for a new truck. I have an 05 Cummins and it tows a travel trailer once maybe twice a year so for me diesel is out of the question. Especially a new one with maintenance costs and potential repair bills. What you said about the cost of a new motor I couldn’t agree with you anymore. Thanks for the video and not sugar coating anything and straight to the point. Adrian. Absolutely. I have a 32 gallon tank. Our return trip logged another 17.5 going up only in elevation no major hills. I had a transflow tank in my 08 dually ford with the 6.4 diesel. That tank was only a 38 and I put in a 40 gallon aux tank in the bed. That truck gor about 10 all the time...a little less when towing. If I were to order a godzilla, I'd opt for the 50 gallon ford tank. I think it's a $ 250 or less option. I did a ton of research on this issue and talked to my ford insiders and they said that the issues with the godzilla and it's reliability are basically a myth. And now going into 22/23 they are saying its equally reliable as the diesel and that it's commercial grade. I figured at 12 mpg towing I should go about 386 on a tank which is about enough distance to when the kids and pups and wife need to jump out and stretch anyway.

Get a 6.4 hemi it will be around well past 300k ford can't say that gas or diesel. Most ford's are done around 125 k. Total money pit after 5/60 warranty is up . Yes I work on these daily along with the other fomoco mistakes. It's all about profit at fomoco customer is first to be blamed for failure and has to fight a corrupt warranty dept. I won't say no more.

I have a 2022. 7.3 4.3 rear axle I have driven back and forth from Colorado to Texas 5 times straight through. Never one issue! Solid truck!

I now have 1030 miles on my 23 F250 Lariat, 7.3. So far I've driven it like an old man and plan on its first oil change before 1100 miles using Motorcraft oil and filter. I've been jaded with the lifter and camshaft damage a few people might have experienced.

I get 15.5 MPG in my Titan and happy with that. If you are getting 17, that is great, especially for a much heavier truck. I maybe looking at a 7.3 in my future.

@@automotiveinquiries9673 The one upgrade I do on my vehicles is change the rotors and brake pads to high quality cross drilled and high quality pads. I don't see warpage or rust on the rotors while living in New England. I have a better pedal feel and a shorter stopping distance.

@@denverbasshead Unless a turbo 4 or turbo 6 can get 35 to 40 MPG, I will stick with a tried and true V8. I think OEMs are using technology and complex engines to address what is coming out of the tailpipe and not MPG. You can't get 40 MPG with a 6000lb vehicle.

I have a 23 f350 with the 7.3, and I wonder if the cam issues are sometimes caused by how the engine is treated. If you floor the throttle on this pickup it will rev over 5 grand IN A HURRY. Treat it like a hot rod and it will treat you like a hot rodder. Race cars are raced on weekends and overhauled during the week. The cam machinery will take the brunt of this treatment. Time will tell, but I bet the engine will last a long time if not abused. Same as most any other engine. My '94 f350 with a 5.8 is still going strong on my ranch with 165K+ with lots of towing included.

I run premium fuel or ethanol free (clear gas which is 88 octane. I prefer the ethanol free, but it's not available everywhere. Now 6900 miles in it still is getting 17 hwy, 14.5 city. My chevy 24 6.6 gas is now returning 18.5 hwy and 15.2 city same fuels. I still have both trucks.

My 2022 gets about 13 on the highway with 4.30’s. Only real problem is it stalling several times at startup when it’s cold outside. Cold being below 35F or so. Probably fuel pump issue. Need to drop it at dealer for a few other issues. Truck goes into sleep mode when off so remote start doesn’t work.

Yeah I bought the 2020 6.6 gas chevy. I have ford trucks and suvs. To each his own I guess. I got the chevy 8k cheaper than ford so why not. I average 17.8 out on the highway unloaded and 14.8 in town. Pulled my 5r to Arkansas and Missouri with it so far. It's just shy of 11k. I averaged 10.8 mpg. I've gotten as high as 13.6 and as low as 8.6. But I just didn't want another diesel when I got rid of my 7.3 turbo. I agree with pretty much you said about costs. I know. Had ford chevy and dodge diesels. I will say this though. If I was hauling full time though. Can't beat a Cummings motor. They just need to go back to the 5 or 6 speed manual tranny.

Had one other problem they fixed. Ford was going to have me go to a independent shop for all the work. However, Ford said all work performed would have to be examined and certified by a Ford dealership. Why have all work done twice. Finally, a case was opened at Ford and a upper tier customer service person got a dealership about a hour away to do the work. Mike White Ford in Coeur d Alene Idaho did a great job and quickly. They were very friendly too. The one Ford dealership in Spokane who used to do Ford motorhomes would tell you to plan on leaving it for a couple of months! Also they made you feel like you were a bother , what a difference going to the other dealership. Had two other motor homes that had the V 10. No problems at all with them. Buit the new engine gets about two miles more per gallon.

There does seem to be a majority having the issue, 2020 to 2022 with higher idle time that have the issue, however ford touted that this engine is commercial grade and could be idled with no problems. But there is a lot of consumer 7.3s having the same concern.

The 6.2 has been around for some time.and has a great proven record. Although not as powerful as the 7.3 which lowers some.of the ratings a smidge, if it fits.your towing needs it is a dang good motor, fuel economy is above that of the v10, but about the same as the new 7.3

I understand your defending your purchase. Its not the motor design thats in question. Its the metals the lifters and cam shaft ie other components that are the issue that are making them fail. There know issues with the actual metal failure from the suppliers not hardening the metal in the lifters and cams. Ford gets these parts from suppliers. A long-life Diesel engine has a fixed volume engine oil pump that is driven directly from a gear on the crankshaft. Simple and proven over millions of miles of actual use. This engine has a chain driven oil pump with a jackshaft with support bearings running the length of the block back to the oil pump. If any part of this overly complicated system fails, kiss the bottom end of this engine goodbye. The claim that it needs a variable displacement oil pump for "efficiency" is way over blown and is risky to long life as well as the engine wears and clearances change. I want to like this engine and perhaps own one in the future. Not looking good for that happening.

My dad has 128,000 on his, hauling the welder and towing, 5,000 rpm for 30 mins towing the fork lift up hill its fine.. we have worked it hard it keeps going, hard starting but keeps going. But i wont trade up from my 94, i have 524,000 on a worn out 1/2 ton with a 300 l6 that does same the job, why sould i trade up.

@tamyralynn1113 I'd see what the maintenance history is. Oil changes, major replacement of parts. Definitely get a carfax. Just shy of that, not all 2020 to 2022s had issues. You may be getting a great deal and it could absolutely be a great truck. I'd also see if you see any metallic (sparkles) in the oil. If it does....run. however if it has a great maintenance history and looks well taken care of, it could certainly be a great truck. At 92k, I would see if they could make you a deal on an extended warranty...don't take the first offer they throw at you....I was in the car business, get them to make you a good deal on it. A crate engine for that truck would be around 4 to 6k, so if the warranty only covered engine and trans and it's cheaper than that for warranty...it would be cheap insurance. Hope it works out the way you need it to.

I wish I could find some reviews of the new 6.8 gas engine. I'm shopping for a 250/2500 reg cab long bed to haul a 2500 pound slide-in camper. That's a pretty light load, so I definitely don't want or need the diesel and I probably don't need the 7.3.

I run the shit out of mine I use top grade synthetic mobile 1 This engine in my view will set the mark for the competition to match . I'm very impressed with it 60k on mine and running like a big dog , I will never return to a expensive problematic diesel again and I've been a paving contractor for 35yrs and I've had many diesel trucks and the Godzilla set up right will pull with any diesel anyplace up to 18k period The key is maintenance and not using cheap oil in my view .I'm buying 4 more Godzilla trucks this yr for my business mine by the way is a 2020

The problem with the 7.3 godzilla is the water jacket between the cylinders. Leaving hardly any metal surface for the headgasket to seal on. Consequently at around 80000 miles the head gasket blows. I don't want any water jacket spaces in between the tops of the cylinders....

The engine has performed well in our 32 ft motor home. Get 11 to 12 mpg doing 65. Problem is in the first year there were four recalls. All over poor workmanship. I had to move heaven and hell to get a Ford dealership to get the work done. Had to get Ford involved to get someone to do the work.

Sure...those are gm ratios ford and ram do it different. In the 7.3 you can choose 3.55 or 4.30. Mine is the 3.55. Diesel gets option of 3.55 or 3.31. Until you get into the f450 and bigger

For 2023 the 7.3 option is 3:73 or 4:30

@Bill B you are correct the 2023 ford towing guide has been released and on page 27 and 28, they have added the 3.73. I think it looks likely give it a 900lbs bump in towing in the f250. Chevy has done this for years 3.73 in the diesel. 4.10 in the gas. Powerstroke they are sticking with the 3.31 and 3.55. The tow ratings have went up again for ford, pretty cool. Thanks for posting

I've had 07 grand caravan,02 ram 1500 purchased new,couple of Honda's for past 30yrs never ever run into any issues no hiccups nothing, WHY coz i always do D maintenance that's all.now I have D godzilla 2022 n will do Dsame maintenance like I did w/my 02 ram 1500.

Problems today have nothin to do with maintenance. It is bad parts and junk metal.Good bearings are a thing of the past and lifters are taking out very low milage motors.

I can because so many said those motors had problems out the gate. And I know the people that currently have my trucks and have well over 150k now...no issues...sold them to people I knew...that's also showing some confidence. But people will always refute or argue anything...heck people are crapping this motor before buying it....zero miles and saying they wouldn't even try it...oh well

The 6.0 and 6.4 had to be treated almost perfectly to have a great life. And many did have an excessive problems. As a Ford Tech, those engines kept us busy even at low mileage. But thus far the7.3 has proven reliable. We haven’t had an excessive number of problems thus far.

lifters are delaminating and the 2 piece oil pan on that 7.3 is leaking and you have to lift the cab off the frame to repair that oil leak....

Lifting the cab on the superduties has been happening for at least ten years...little scary to see but ford design their trucks this way. Im sure there are many reasons they did this.

Ok they replace it “under warranty” does the new motor now have a 5yr/60,000 mile warranty on it?? Even if it does will I have this problem again… not to mention how long your without a truck while getting fixed…I would trust Ford ( or any brand ) a lot more if they would just come out and say it… we got a bad batch of parts these are the serial numbers for them from this point forward these will be recalled and or corrected before being sold to consumers. But the bean counters upstairs have crunched numbers and it is cheaper to sell all the “known” defective vehicles and fix as they fail as opposed to recalling and or fixing before selling to consumers… some will hit within warranty but more will hit out of warranty and we still sold them all and got paid in full…

Yeah it isn't convenient l but I've been told they will warranty the motor 5 60 from the point it's changed....rentals or loaners given. Really the problem is so sparse 1 in 500 that the chances of a 22 and up are almost zero and pre 22 one in 500. Really this could never affect 95 percent of the buyers. I know that if it was all or even 20 % ford would issue a recall

@@automotiveinquiries9673 well that’s good news!!! Thanks for the update. I’ve really liked these from the start. 22’ is the last year you can get a Reg Cab 2wd with the 7.3… 23’ you get the 6.8 unless you want 4wd. Not against 4wd but it seems after 17’ you can’t get a manual transfer case…

@Scott Camden that's true...22 is the last year for that, as 4x4 is now standard (meaning we pay for it, but don't have an option not to). I did so much research on it before I bought it, and I was only skeptical about power vs the diesel. I'm not disappointed or worried.

20 years ago? Push rod technology has been used since engines were first made. Ford used pushrods because these engines typically make their peak torque at lower RPMs. There are really no chronic issues with the 7.3. There’s thousands of these engines in use in pickup trucks, commercial trucks and motor homes. The questionable component of that truck and all Ford trucks is the ten speed transmission. There have been many complaints and there’s even a class action suit against Ford involving the transmission. I don’t know if it involves super duty trucks. The key is service! Change the oil every 5000 miles no matter what the manual says and change the transmission fluid every 50,000 miles and that truck should last. Service is way cheaper on the Godzilla than the Power Stroke. I guess diesel pickup drivers are haters when it comes to gas engines. You also get more payload with the gas engine.

Two ways, seems people are kibosh motors before they get out. For example I had a 6.0 and a 6.4 diesel....people said it would have problems off the bat.....ran them both 80k plus, meticulous maintenance no issues...sold those to people I know...they continued the Maintenance and now both have over 150k....no issues. There are tons of private haulers I meet that are running this motor....I mean working them. ..and they have over 200k on them already.....I've had numerous v6, v8 gas motors that ran over 200k...so as for me on this motor....I know tons of viewers that have also reported being way past the window where everyone is saying they will fail......and they havent...just saying

I have a 2021 F-250 with the 7.3L gas engine. I have had it serviced 100% through Ford dealers and everything was fine until I had the oil changed at about 32,000 miles. At that time, the engine started running very rough. There was no “check engine” light and my dealer could find no fault code - but something was not right. I paid to change all 8 spark plug cords and still no resolution. This video offers no answer other than “it happens.”

The spark wire harness need to be possibly changed....they have have damaged them while in the engine compartment, should fit into the 60k powertrain....also I think it's less than a hundred if you had to do it yourself.....

Let me be CRYSTAL CLEAR. 90% of men SAY ......they incorrectly say the word 'motor' instead of 'engine'. Auto mechanics do not rebuild 'motors'...they rebuild 'engines'. Like you stated in your first post -Motor = Electric, Engine =Gas/Diesel. I agree, motors run on electricity and engines run on gas or diesel.....both a combustible fuel (gas - spark from the spark plug and diesel via compression. Tire is MOUNTED on the Rim. I never stated Tire on the Rim EQUALS (=) Wheel. I used the word 'mounted'.....not equal or equals. I said, "tires are mounted to rims and the rim with the tire is then mounted to the wheel on the vehicle." Finally, I could have done a better job I writing my original intention in my first post.....and you could of been more careful reading it. @berserker406 Ford and Brian Wolfe should be 👋🏻 in the 🤭for developing Godzilla. The effort should have been put into the evolving the 6.2 Boss instead - which was already paid for and sorted out. Would have been a MUCH better basis for a future high performance variation too. They should have given Boss the Godzilla’s siamesed bores and bore/stroke/compression just upped the port and valve sizes accordingly. It wiuld have made much better power per CI - been basically the same external size as the existing 6.2 and not have to deal with the industry wide pushrod lifter issues.

I think the 7.3L will be both reliable and durable for a long time. Ford has lots of $,$$$,$$$.$$ invested in the 7.3L gas engine. They will fix any potential big or little problems. Then there is the aftermarket....there is already a long list of parts available for engine swaps. The Ford 7.3L gas engine and probably the smaller 6.8L version are here to stay for several years. The GM biased and jealous people......like it or not...Ford will be selling millions and millions of trucks with this engine...to general consumers, but also to federal, state, county and municipal governments who are replacing most of the diesel trucks in their fleet......and the vast majority are purchasing Ford Super Duty trucks!
