BOC is one of my favorite bands. I've sung their praises on multiple Contrarians episodes. I was even a part of Martin's last BOC book. They would easily be in my personal hall of fame. The actual Hall of Fame, though? It's a shaky case. They are not really a major influence. They didn't really create any new genres. They didn't have sustained commercial success. While I would certainly put them in ahead of many current hall of fame members, I still think there are many more artists that have had a more significant impact, waiting to get in, despite my personal love of the band. By all means, if you want to make the case, I'm willing to be convinced I'm wrong.

Agree with all except Peter Jones' suggestions of The Carpenters and Tom Jones. Great musicians, but not Rock. Carpenters covered a few early Rock tunes, but they were a Pop band. Tom Jones is also Pop although of a different stripe. I can't agree on The Monkees. Although Rock, too derivative of the Beatles, too manufactured and contrived. Then again, I don't understand a lot of bands that are in the RNRHOF, the criteria used. Some real head scratchers in there. It can't just be popularity, and there has to be a direct influence or distinction---plus the music played has to be Rock 'N' Roll. I think we know it when we hear it. Finally, Dick Dale, King Crimson, Blue Oyster Cult, Styx, Nazareth, Jethro Tull, Scorpions, Steppenwolf, Boston, Bad Company, Kansas, Supertramp, ELP, Hawkwind, Thin Lizzy, and Iron Maiden should absolutely be in the RNRHOF. I'm sure I'm missing quite a few. How can The Band not be in? That's also nuts. One of the greatest bands of the 70s. Music From Big Pink, Last Waltz... Robbie Robertson, Levon Helm. I think in terms of "hair metal" Motley Crue is the only one thats not in that can get in. Def Leppard and Bon Jovi are in and so are Guns n Roses (debatable if they are hair metal but they are adjacent) so I think thats it. Bands like Ratt, Poison, Whitesnake, arent getting in. Lots of hits and album sales and popularity but not enough critical acclaim. Hair metal didnt have much of a influence on anything that was popular since the 80s ended.
