Its important that we represent a south African by culture, heritage, lineage etc. We cannot be represented by a south African born nigerian. She is nigerian and thats her identity and culture etc. This platform is to showcase south African beauty which even her features are not south African. U can tell she isn't a south African from simply looking. This is a beauty contest. Her looks dont speak to our own features. So she isn't representing us looks wise, culturally and otherwise. We need to be fair and be represented by a south African. She can enter miss Africa instead.

I will keep saying this, anyone who thinks that South Africans are xenophobic, especial if that person or people believe that, it's very easy, leave xenophobic people and their country, don't try to tell them what to voice out if they feel it's not right. South Africans have a right to freedom of speech, they are allowed to voice out freely. I don't believe that is xenophobic.

There is a larger issue here that everyone seems to be ignoring and South Africans are not really saying, maybe because they just don't know how to say it. Personally, as a South African, I don't have any issues with the half Nigerian lady representing South Africa, especially if she loves the country and she is a legal citizen. That is my personal view. At the same time, I think it is disingenuous to paint South Africans as xenophobic. South Africa is full of immigrants from all across the African continent. Some of them have been in the country for many years and have become quite successful, often at the expense of South Africans. The question is if South Africans are so xenophobic, why would all of these foreign nationals even be in the country in the first place? The larger issue that everyone seems to be ignoring is the rivalry between South Africa and Nigeria. That definitely is the biggest factor, and it seems to be quite bitter. It also goes much deeper than I actually realized. I don't think that Chidimma would have been responded to that way if one of her parents were from any other African nation instead of Nigeria. It's not that South Africans are necessarily xenophobic, as much as it is the fact that the rivalry between the 2 countries is deep. Consider how Nigerians responded toward Tyla when she won the Grammy award. All over the internet she was called all kinds of derogatory names while her Africaness was denied. Some even said that the whole of Africa should boycott the Grammies for giving the award to Tyla instead of to a Nigerian. Consider how they continually spew out hate toward her every time she does simple things like posting random things on her social media accounts. These things create resentment in the hearts of South Africans who love Tyla so much that they would gladly go to war over her. Hardly a day ever goes by when Nigerians are not declaring their country as the "giant of Africa." South Africans don't actually care about being known as the giant of Africa. Because of this rivalry the attitude of South Africans only seems to be that Nigeria can have that title as long as they stay with it over there in West Africa, as far away from them as possible.

I wish I could like this comment a million times, cause I feel the exact way. I am just dead tired of how everytime Nigerians feel some type of way or when when we point out their crap we painted as being xenophobic, their brothers are staying here with no issues and we actually embrace them. Its crazy how Nigerians hate SA so much and speak with so much hate towards us when we were chilling all by ourselves and they started immigrating here. Other African immigrants such as people from Zim have no issues with SA but Nigerians, I wonder why they are still here if SA is sooo bad and we ill treat them. This whole Miss SA saga would have not blown up to be this, if they just kept quiet and let this girl compete in peace. But they had to start with their weird unhealthy competitive spirit. Now we are here just dealing with their arrogant rudeness I hope one day Nigerians would actually see no one is fighting them but themselves. We have enough problems to deal with, and they not one of them.

First of all, the Pageant is a private business and the main focus is about maximizing income earnings. To promote your "Culture and Ethnic Heritage" you would have to start a different kind of "African Women Beauty" competition. Imagine a white man who had immigrated from the USA to become a South African and marries a woman from Israel. Would their Cape town born daughter, an Israeli Jew...Yes, you can only be a Jew through the mother, be allowed to represent your $outh African culture ?

As a south African i don't see any problem if she chose south Africa. She's born here and she's black. France neutralize black players and they won world cup. So give this black child a chance. White people do these but we don't say anything.

In 2001, Vanessa Coutroulis, born to Portuguese-Angolan parents, won the Miss South Africa crown. Similarly, Sherry Wang's participation in the competition sparked debate in early 2024 due to her Chinese heritage. Notwithstanding her roots and third attempt at the competition, she secured the fan vote, earning a spot among the Top 25 contestants. Tendai The Beast is Zimbabwean born SA rugby national player... 🤷🏿‍♂️

this is a storm in a tea cup. honestly south africa is the united states of the continent.its a melting point of all peoples from all over the world . come on mzansi you are bigger than all these african countries. you are the rainbow nation . dont allow pettiness to direct your thinking.

No madam/ Sir we are not petty. It is due to this exact idea of a rainbow nation that is almost stripping of our cultures and true indigenous heritage. People want us to be a USA of Africa, with no true South African identity- for everyone but South Africans to have a safe heaven here We are happy for everyone to legally come here, thrive, build a good life… But we would also like to be afforded the space to represent our country on international stages in peace, Y’all would never settle in / go to Japan, India etc and demand to contest for titles there… but you think it’s it’s ok to do it in SA?

@@nc9922 you are being petty, you never once complain about vanessa carrerra who won miss south africa , yet she is half angolan and half portuguese. tendai mtarariwa is a zimbabwean playing for south , yet i dont hear you saying anything about their nationality. even naledi chirwa is a malawian sitting in your parliament. so i suggest you deal with those people as well. you cannot run away from reality, south africa is a multi racial , multi ethnic melting pot in africa , you cannot wish it away

That no one from Soweto has spoken up about their times growing up together, going to school and playing as kids….
