So glad I came across this! Conversations like this, centered on controversial topics like masturbation and pornography are too often avoided yet so vital as so many of us struggle with them. That first call was everywhere and wasn’t biblically sound. He attempted to justify masturbation (which is sin against yourself) and tried to tie it in with “self control”. Self control and masturbation shouldn’t even be in the same sentence because one has nothing to do with the other. You can’t masturbate without lusting. As a Christian, I would have definitely corrected that brother. Christians really need to stop trying to justify sin.

This was great! Many great perspectives shared. One problem with masturbation I recall hearing is that when you get so used to pleasing yourself, intimacy and satisfaction may become a challenge within marriage.

I love that this topic was covered! I appreciate the willingness to go there. The talking off camera is hard to hear and kind of annoying because it breaks the momentum. Just weird. Also, I encourage us to be careful how we shame those who struggle. People don't always struggle because they don't want to obedient. Plenty of those at church and listening to the pastor and studying the word can still struggle. It's an addiction, and it was hard to watch that moment of shaming. I still appreciate the episode, just wanted to speak my thoughts on that. Thanks P4CM!

I appreciate this conversation. It’s very real and the dialogue is not being had among Christian Millennials. I personally think masturbation is birthed out of a selfish place (“I need a release, I want to feel something etc.) and your belief on rather it is right or wrong is depicted by how you view sex. Personally masturbation was always too much work for me 😅 (not worth my time). But as I’ve grown and matured in my faith, I view sex as a gift for my husband and to masturbate in my season of singleness devalues the gift. I want to feel like I need him to fulfill that desire and if I can get myself to “climax” without him then I cheapen the future marriage. Lastly, I think masturbation definitely awakens certain parts of you and I believe in a pass episode y’all mentioned self control. Masturbation is not a way to practice self control (especially if you desire marriage) because to me it’s birth from a selfish place. Healthy marriage is the goal and habits we create in our singleness will echo in our marriages.

I personally don't think you should be masturbating, but that's just me. I also have my own personal convictions about it, so to each his own. I'm glad that this conversation is being had though in a godly context. The church should be having these conversations more often because the world is not shy about it. At all.

How do you separate lust and sexual desire? Even married, you lust after your spouse. When you think about them in a certain way, you're lusting. Which leads to you arousal

Christianity frowned upon masturbation, I thought. Shouldn't be spilling seed metaphorically. Used to be taught as sexual self control like the first dude said.
