@@BadEggOnTheKZbins254there have been allegations against jojo and her mom who started this girl group called XOMG Pop that they were extremely toxic and abusive to these young girls, making them work really long hours, jojo specifically constantly yelling at them and throwing insults, and also they fired one of the dancers who was disabled and encouraged her to continue rehearsal while she was bleeding out of her belly button. There’s a lot of other stuff I can’t remember, but it’s definitely not great stuff.

No, what we SHOULD really be talking about, is that this sudden transition from her marketing team is a scam so that people forget about how she treated the young dancers that she coached under XOMG POP with her mum. Literally, this is not teen angst. This is a ploy so people have something else to focus on.

I actually found myself agreeing with your argument on this. Now, there are other things that Jojo has done that I don’t think can be boiled down to being young and dumb, but I do think this situation has been blown way out of proportion. A twenty year old girl didn’t invent gay-pop, just like you didn’t discover philosophy in college. Everyone thinks they’re some special enigma when they’re young, and making discoveries but we’re not. So, to massively berate someone who is going through that in real time before our eyes and on a grand scale like that? Ridiculous.

I think she made it worse by acknowledging that she made a mistake saying that and then continued to say she’d be the CEO or Chief of Marketing for gay pop. It just comes off like she isn’t learning and is just trying to find a way to still hold a higher ground over everyone. The difference between other artists and her is that they never declared themselves as anything; they let the critics do that. Britney never declared she was the princess of pop. That was decided for her.

Absolutely agree that people are disgusting about seeing young adult public figures growing up and being cringe. I dont like JoJo very much. But she absolutely doesn't deserve to be made fun of (in such an overwhelming and vile way) for her kinda cringe music. I do think she deserves a lot of criticism for her treatment of xomgpop group during the tv show. As well as her continued involvement with and endorsement of people like Shane Dawson, Colleen Ballinger, James Charles, and even Abby Lee Miller.

You would be correct if only you didn't know that she made an environment where a disabled dancer and singer bleed through her belly button right before she had to get spinal surgery. This same person wasn't properly compensated for her work. The rebrand takes the shit Jo Jo did to Children performers and sweeps it under the rug. Jo Jo did a dance mom part 2 with Xomg pop. She did horrible things and that shouldn't be ignored. As a college student in theatre I see shit like this all the time but the main difference is that nobody takes advantage of children.

People also forget that being a part of the industry at a young age does in fact age you as a person. Your mentality and maturity is not the same because your entire being carries the financial livelihoods of many adults. Which is why it’s hard to have any sympathy for her in that instance. It gave her a Goddess complex it seems and stunted her abilities to grow more as a person. She does not apologize for her words but twists them to still make herself the best of the best; which I understand that’s how the industry can work. But sustainable celebrities have lasting fame by being dubbed they’re the best by the audience… not themselves.

However, some people did think that this whole rebrand was just supposed to distract everyone from some accusations made by children and parents in this pop group that was run by Jojo and her mother. I am unsure if the accusations are true but Rolling Stone magazine did write an article centring on a disabled child who was mistreated in the group. (Again, not sure if it is true or not but if it is then I think that this whole thing is not genuine but just a way to get people talking about her silly rebrand instead of her pop group and all of that)

I think these are very valid points and I agree in the context of what the vast majority of people are making fun of her for. She is figuring things out and nobody deserves to be ridiculed online like that. However what doesn’t sit right with me is the way that karma appears to be a shift in focus away from the horrible things she has done/been associated with. It was not long ago that Jojo was called out for her unfair treatment in her pop group “XOMG pop” where she forced a disabled child to dance after surgery until she bled. From what I understand of the situation, she not yet addressed this or apologised. I understand that she had this kind of horrible treatment on dance moms but you would surely think that experience would make her want to make a better environment for others not a worse one. She also has publicly stood up for child predators such as Colleen and James Charles. I don’t mean to hate but that’s what should really be talked about not karma. I genuinely think that she has been manipulated from a young age more than she realises and maybe that has screwed with her views on certain issues. She calls her mum a ‘mumager’ as in mum/manager and has been exploited online by the people close to her her whole life. I don’t blame her for this but I do think she should get some help, focus on looking inwards at herself and do some reflection. I hope that one day she realises she has been exploited and reaches out for some help, cuts out the negative influences in her life and apologises to the dancers she has effected on her show that she also exploited once she realises that is not the proper way to treat people.

I understand a lot of where this is coming from, but Jojo siwa has said she wrote the song multiple times. Look at her video on Billboard. Also she’s proven multiple times she’s not a great person. She has allegations after allegations stacked against her (ofc allegations aren’t proven to be truthful but it doesn’t necessarily make me want to root for her either and I’m always going to go with the victims side). Also she chooses to associate with people who have committed crimes against children!!!! She has defended Colleen Ballinger and associates with James Charles as well.

I have to disagree. In real life, many 20 years do their best to be compassionate, responsible, humble, etc. And that in itself is a learning curve, but it seems like your argument is that Siwa should literally bear less responsibility for her words and actions because she’s… 20. That argument would make sense if she was an actual child, not 20. Again, in real life, people are learning from their mistakes and continuously doing better in the ways they interact with the world around them, and we don’t ever stop and say “psh, no, you don’t have to be responsible for what you do, you’re 20! You’re *supposed* to act terribly!” The one aspect I do agree on is that “cringe” isn’t a crime. But in terms of things that affect other people, like faking pregnancies as a joke and defending child pr*dators… she should reasonably be held responsible for that. Just like we would for anyone who’s not a celebrity.

3:05 Well, I haven't heard her say she wrote the song. What she did do though was have an entire video about the creative process of making it, where she did lie about creating it. She talked about the bridge saying something like: "Yeah, we were kind of battling what to do with the bridge. At one point the bridge was like all one-note, but now we came up with this cool melody to go with it" (Even though the melody is also an exact replica of Brit Smith's melody). Also, she did wanna rewrite originally, because she didn't want to be associated with being a bad girl, something she also alludes to in the interview, so making it seem even more as if she was also really involved in the creative process. Also, in it she says "The song kinda sounds like a 2010 record", which - it does, because it is. So while she never said she did write it, point blank, she did allude to it very heavily, and she did lie about parts of the process, taking credit for some of Rock Mafia's work there. (Also just wanna point out that there are people who don't understand that Rock Mafia is a production duo, made up of Antonina and Tim, so they ARE Rock Mafia, because I've seen people say stuff like "Oh but Antonina really also needs credit for the writing" or "It was written by Rock Mafia and Antonina")

In the same interview though, she talks about being “pitched the song” she says something along the lines of; “and then i was pitched this song called karma but i wasn’t sure because the first line is “i was a bad girl” and i’m not.” so yeah she’s been cocky and arrogant, and definitely said stuff that could easily be misinterpreted, but i don’t think she’s lied or tried to allure to writing it. She will have been part of the creative process in other ways and toying with lyric and melody changes for a song she owns will have been part of it even if she eventually decided to stick to the way it was originally written.

@@lilliana493 Yeah but that's the thing; if she would have said that (We were toying with the melody of the bridge, but eventually we liked the original melody best, so we stuck with that), it'd be a whole different story than fully taking credit (herself or maybe best case scenario her current team) for coming up with the melody, while it's the same.

YES Ryan! I completely agree with you. I'm not entirely familiar with all the details surrounding her or her music; she falls outside my age group, so I haven't paid much attention. However, I can imagine there's also backlash because she was once seen as this "good girl" role model, and now, with her shift in music and style, everyone seems to be losing their minds over it. It's a common narrative with many child stars who eventually grow interested in different things as they get older, yet they're often criticized for changing their image and exploring new interests. I only just realized yesterday that she's only 20. She's always felt like she's been around forever to me. When I was 20, I certainly made my fair share of mistakes. Even now, in my 30s, I'm still figuring things out. I couldn't agree more that what's needed here is kindness rather than jumping straight to attack mode. How many times have we seen people go into a downward spiral, experiencing breakdowns or worse, and yet nothing seems to change, and the cycle repeats? Biologically, our brains don't fully mature until around age 25, especially the prefrontal lobe responsible for decision-making. So, of course, a 20-year-old who's been in the spotlight her whole life, with people constantly boosting her ego, is bound to make mistakes. She will learn through her own experiences just like everyone has. And I have to say, I absolutely LOVE THE REBRAND! It's so clever. At first, I was like, "Who's The Stage Door?" And then it clicked. Brilliant!

Just to put it out there, JoJo did say at some point that she wrote the song about her ex, so that could be where the idea came from.

Great points made, but in the case of people saying she lied about writing the song, what people are saying is very accurate. She went on a podcast and claimed they had written about 11 versions of the song over the course of 2 years.

I really liked this video and this take. I’ve been thinking in my head if I should comment this or not. With the rebranding from Sam & Ryan to The Stage Door is cool. However, I’m not a huge musical theater person. I don’t hate music theatre, but I’d just rather watch the movie. I subscribed mainly for the couple content. I understand that can’t be expected anymore since broke up and the pivot to turn a musical theater channel makes the most sense for y’all. I totally understand that.

The problem with JoJo, that none of the other people you mentioned suffer from, is not only is she not very likable, she's also not very talented. However she is young, so I will listen to you and not judge her beyond this message. Also, while I'm not judging her I will also not give her my views, clicks, likes or money 😊

That part! We CAN'T leave Jojo alone, because she's using the cringey rebrand so KZbinrs who aren't caught up on the lore will make videos like this. It's kind of insidious really.

While I agree with most of the points in this video, I think it’s important to acknowledge that she’s not just a young celebrity rebranding. The release of karma has almost covered up the fact that she *allegedly abused the young children on her show. I believe that JoJo absolutely deserves the criticism that she is receiving, but for a totally different reason.

Idk why it terrifies me that I am going to have to do the weirdest and cringyest things I life to grow and that I don't t even know that I'm doing it but honestly Jojo shouldn't have to do that and have people on her back telling her that it is that to me sounds even more scary... I have zero idea of that made sense

She didn't steal it, but she definitely lied. If you look at a recent interview on KZbin, she talks about her "creative process" behind writing the song. She even claimed she originally had the bridge a different melody than it is, and went on to change it. When in reality, the Brit Smith recording is the exact same melodic line as JoJo's.

The issue with Jojo Siwa’s rebrand is that it’s happening at the same time as the XOMG Pop Allegations. I don’t have an issue with the rebrand it’s that it’s being used to distract the world from the allegations.

THANK YOU. Oh my god, thank you! I have been so frustrated over this Jojo backlash. She had to struggle to come out in Nickelodeon and be accepted...this is her awkward self-discovery era. It's cringe-y but who of us didn't have that phase? And Jojo has to deal with all the fame objectification on top.

100% agree with everything u said. Im not a jojo fan but I feel so angry for the amount of mass bullying thats going on. Being the same age as her I can’t even imagine that. People need to learn to move on if they don’t like something instead of dogpilling.

I’ve been seeing A LOT of takes trashing Jojo Siwa… but I appreciate your take on this. Her other controversies that everyone has mentioned in the comments aside, she’s just a young woman figuring herself out. Hell, maybe she does believe that she’s being a pioneer for her generation. At the end of the day, we all go through that arrogant phase in our youth, but most of us have the luxury of going through it without millions of internet strangers watching 😆.

I’m glad you’re defending her. She means well. I believe she is attempting to be an advocate - she did it wrong but her intention was good- There is no reason for all the bullying. She is what? 20? If anyone knows anything about the music biz they know it’s how the music biz works- the writers were always fully credited. Even Adam Lambert’s first mega hit which was nominated for a grammy - way back when was written by Pink and Max Martin- I’m glad you made this video- I’ve been writing this comments of the meanest bullying videos - I have a 20 year daughter - She would never survive what Jojo is going through - Great video- thank you ❤ pS I actually really like Jojo’s video as song

Ryan, you absolutely make great points here. She absolutely has room to grow, she is a child, and she will learn her place in the world and in queer culture. However, she is going to learn it the hard way. She's egotistical as hell. Nobody who drives a car with their face plastered all over it isn't...... but if she wants to continue on this trajectory of stardom... she needs this hate towards her. and i know... that sounds horrible to say, it is... but she will have do deal with things like this her entire life if she wants to stay in the spotlight! Better to get the hard lesson out of the way early.

This isn’t really about her having her “rebrand”. If it was just that it wouldn’t be bad, its the fact that she’s cocky, has allegations against her that she seems to be distracting everyone about and associates with people who are pedos.
@SM-BSW
@SM-BSW 3 ай бұрын
Okay, but she's using this rebrand to deflect from allegations of being severely abusive to the children she recruited to dance for XOMG Pop, thus replicating the harm she experienced on Dance Moms. She also supported Colleen Ballinger when the grooming allegations came out. She went on to victim blame the whistleblowers, who were children when the grooming happened, with her whole chest on Howie Mandel's podcast. This includes Adam McIntyre, who is openly queer. And now I'm supposed to give JoJo a pass for being a naive kid? Sorry, I can't do that. Not when her rebrand was preceded by her harming other, more vulnerable youths. If anything, the existence of this video shows how EFFECTIVE her marketing strategy was at deflecting from the real issues with Jojo. We're talking about her cringe gene Simmons cosplay and silly song. Not the serious issues surrounding her.

I think you kind of touch on the origins of cancel culture here, which in my opinion is engendered in young people who’ve never had any major life experiences or had to make any difficult decisions, and therefore feel comfortable criticizing others for not being as virtuous as they themselves feel. I think all past, younger generations are guilty of holding others, particularly older others, to higher standards than themselves. We’re just seeing it more now because of social media.
