The cookiecutter shark's ventral surface is covered with photophores, rendering it nearly invisible in the light. The non-illuminating collar around its neck forms a shadow, attracting prey. When prey approaches, the cookiecutter shark bites off a piece of flesh, creating circular wounds. Their prey includes fish, sharks, whales, and even parts of submarines covered with soft rubber.

Correct me if I'm wrong, don't cookie Cutter sharks also eject their entire jaw after eating and than almost miraculously they regrow an entire nother jaw full of equally powerful and razor sharp teeth, and they must have some powerful Jaws to be able to bite chunks of meat out of whales becuase whales have thick blubbery skin...there's also another shark I love called a lantern shark it's so small and adorable, it's like a little glowstick with fins.

Fun fact: the cookie-cutter shark eating a piece of the submarine in the video is a reference of a happening during the cold war. There were numerous reports of damage to the American submarines, something or someone was breaking the cables of the external equipments, so they had to come back to get repaired. They started thinking that it was a secret weapon invented by the Soviets, but the thing they didn't know was that even they had the same problem. In the end, it was discovered to be none other than the cookie-cutter shark. Edit: oh man I didn't expect this many likes, I dedicate this to my one and only captian, BARBASCURA X! Cookiecutter shark is one cocky shark. It'll swim right up to a large shark, large whale, a large fish, and just bite a chunk right out. They do that with these suction cup like lips and needle-like upper teeth, which could use to suction on to a whale to make a bite. And then they have these broad fuesd lower teeth that are very strong, and they used to scoop out a cookiecutter shaped chunk, and that's how they get their name. the Cookiecutter Shark is not a large. In fact, this is a world record. the largest one ever seen. But they eat parts of very large prey like whales and dolphins and other sharks and Mahi-mahis and tunes and swordfish. We learn a lot about cookiecutter sharks from the prey they attacked. Some of the interactions with cookiecutter sharks are known from scars that are found on fish from commercial fish rays like tunas and swordfish. The other thing that makes a cookiecutter shark so weird is that its belly glows in the dark as you look at them from bellow. They blend in with the sunlight. and all you see are the black marks that make them look like skinny fish swimming by. cookiecutter sharks are so small, almost as big as a cat, and not as long as a pencil.

Ships, subs, and buoys often had rubber coating certain parts of them at one point. Submarines in particular had them covering vital equipment. So, the soft fleshy rubber was a prime target for the Cookiecutter. Which meant the Navy had to keep bringing their vessels in to repair the rubber. The Navy uses fiberglass these days instead to cover those parts.

A little fact: There are cases of cookie cutters eating humans! (yeah shouldn’t say that in a happy tone lol) and sometimes even eat inanimate objects, like the submarine in the video. They are the hungriest little fellas in the ocean!
