It’s a boost with light grit, and a single BBD which provides very short delay times. In other words, an analog slap back delay and booster. The short delay times can provide a ‘filter’ effect due to comb filtering, as well as the natural darkening the BBD provides with the blend set higher. I like mine quite a bit

I've had this pedal for five or so years, it's great. I think of it as a subtle 'tone conditioner' - the blend and spread pots add a pinch of modulation that work as a kind of secret sauce. It's not obvious and it doesn't have to be, it's just better that way. Another Mike Mathews special indeed.

I don't own one, but based on your demo I believe the "phase" notch you're hearing at the first part of the speed knob travel is a comb-filter effect created by the extremely short delay at that point.

I love this pedal. I use it mainly for recordings, the first half of the spread knob always does the trick to set a synth, guitar, bass or drum machine in the mix, I think it offers a sweet spot that make things sound like a finish record sound, and as you said, it's subtle but significant, great video! there's no many videos about this great pedal, cheers!

A friend of mine used this with a Wet Dry Wet thing he did. In the center, all analog vintage amp... no reverb... just amp. Left was the output of his Strymon gear into a clean 40w amp... that's what he did most of the time... two amps. But in rehearsal I heard him set up a second 40 or 50w amp for the stereo of the strymon... the other channel... Left...and he used this Analogizer... it blew my mind completely. The hype and digital qualities of the R amp were "erased" by the comb filter, and eq of the L amp. The whole thing was huge. I always meant to try to recreate it... this video reminds me I want to try.

It reminds me of using the Akai Head Rush E2 in the shortest of the delay settings. When you go below 30ms dealy, it does comb filtering which kinda sounds like a fixed phase effect. If you can make this pedal go full wet, I hihgly recommend doing a wet/dry stereo set up with this because it will soudn THICC! Head Rush, DD7 and I think the DD3T/DD8 do this as well.

I don't think that spread knob is doing anything different left of noon, it's just reducing the delay time so much that you're almost but not exactly overlaying the original and delayed signal on top of each other. It sounds flangy/phasy, just like on the deco.

You've got a very very short delay pedal. That's all. The top-right knob controls delay time. As you move from just 1 millisecond, you get those phase changes until the delay is noticable enough that you "hear" the echo. The bottom left knob controls the volume of that echo.
@TMAziz
@TMAziz Жыл бұрын
that spread control (2:55) might be a delay all the way down the dial, but on the lowest delay times you get that phasing effect bc how close the delayed signal is to the dry.

With all these guys running around looking for boost or OD pedals to stack (and many of them getting pricey)... this seems like the perfect pedal to drive/stack other OD pedals. Check the J Rockett APE Analog Preamp Experiment, for the boutique builder who made a pedal that does more, but they aren’t very expensive. It’s made to get a tape delay pre amp tone, and it recreates the analog circuit of a tape unit. They aren’t very expensive though. $150 is the highest price I’ve seen, and it’s made with an effects loop, to put other delays in. It works too.

The spread knob is doing exactly the same thing on the first half as it is on the second half. It’s a delay time control. But up until 12 o’clock, the delay is too short for human ears to hear as two distinct sounds. So it sounds like a filtering effect an the frequencies phase with one another.

The spread seems to be just a delay time control for the echo. But if you make an echo short enough it turns into an out-of-phase effect. I could imagine this would great as a lead booster in front of a driven amp - if the amp isn't too driven to handle the echo well. But a subtle echo can work well, the Carbon Copy delay sure does in front of a 800.

where you'll really experience what this pedal actually milks, is by using it in conjunction with a Distortion pedal, to add some level and carve the tone of the other unit. Although this seems to get more extreme than some of those other pedals used for the same purpose. Subtlety between various elements IS what creates a great tone.

Or at least turn it into an 81% solid state/19% tube amp? 😛 Btw this demo highlighted things about this efx box which I didn’t know; id everest, it “emulates analog” severely enough to use as an overdrive box?
