sonicthunder Fort Moultrie was built during the Revolutionary War. It wasn’t finished in time for the initial British Invasion so they used Palmetto tree trunks to finish the walls. Palmetto trees are very “spongy” so they could absorb the cannonballs and even use some to shoot back. It like Sumter was decommissioned after WW2.
