This is brilliant work. The finished painting is beautiful and reminds me of childhood book illustrations (way back). I was surprised at how many layers of paint were needed. I know nothing about the game, but will remedy this. Thank you.
@ateliersento8 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot for your kind words! We don't paint so many layers usually but this scene is a very dark scene. We'll try to film the making of a sunlit background one of these days: the process is really different.

Thanks for your reply, but I hope you didn't think my comment about the layers was a criticism. I was just amazed at how much work went into the painting. Superb.

Your demos are decidedly the best I have seen so far on the internet. And your art and style are simply fascinating. I do have a question. You mention 8B graphite pencil. How come it doesn't dilute in the water and muddy the watercolor pigment when you start painting? Do you fix it before you start painting? Another one, why are you using such a thing paper for your final watercolor? I would be concerned about buckling. And yet, your paper remains perfectly flat. Thanks a lot for sharing your process.
@ateliersento7 жыл бұрын
Many thanks for your very kind words! We don't fix the 8B pencil before we start painting. We never had any problem with it. We use a thin paper (224gsm) because we don't want it to be too grainy. Our paintings are used for video games and comic books so they need to be very precise and we don't want the paper to be too textured. The paper remains flat because we don't use a lot of water when we paint. In fact, the way we paint is inspired by the sketches we do outdoor: we rely on the lines more than on the watery effects of watercolors. We hope it helps. Feel free to ask if you have more questions!

I love your work! Thank you for sharing! Did you use any lighting references for this scene? Also do you use lighting references for your comic sequences? Thanks ahead!
@ateliersento3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind words! We don't really use lighting references when painting. We have a general idea of the atmosphere of the scene (here, it was suposed to be very dark to create a sense of mystery) and place the lights and shadows so they create this atmosphere. We hope it helps!

I've seen this video like 3 times haha can't stop watching I love the process. This is truly amazing and beautiful, you're extremely talented. I have a couple of questions, are you using here watercolor tubes or pans? because my paper always end up warping due to humidity and I don't know if it's because I soak the brush to much while using pans (I use very thick paper) . Here the paper looks just fine after a couple of layers. How do you do that?
@ateliersento8 жыл бұрын
+Mg A. Thank you for your comment! We use watercolor pans. Usually, watercolor artists use lots of water and it can make the paper warping. To avoid that, they use a special tape to stretch the paper when they start painting and remove it only at the end. For more infos about that, please watch this excellent video by our friend Mateusz Urbanowicz: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iWnRkIGbaqeZl8Um34s As for us, we don't use that much water when we paint. We like to use watercolour with lots of colour and little water. For that reason, our paper doesn't warp.

Joli !
@ateliersento10 жыл бұрын
@agentCorrupteur8 жыл бұрын
@ateliersento8 жыл бұрын

Hi! I've just recently discovered your channel, and I am absolutely smitten with your art style. I love how I could almost taste the colors. You are such an amazing artist! (PS - art question, sorry: how come the graphite from your pencilled lineart doesn't mix in with the watercolor? It seems like a pretty dark/soft kind, like 2B or higher? Just curious, thanks!)
@ateliersento6 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your kind words! For the lines, we use 8B graphite pencils by Faber & Castell and - I guess we're lucky - it doesn't mix with the watercolor. We've never tried other brands since it works very well with this one.
