Considering the fact we see the same cat in the Frankenweenie movie and it holds a similar role of warning the MC of coming problems, I’d say it’s more of just a spirit of chaos. I don’t think he’s a good spirit, but he’s one that despises the Beldam and will do anything to mess with her.

If you look closely at the beginning when the beldam makes the Coraline doll, there’s a drawer of buttons she opens which have a pair of cat-eye button eyes, which i think means the beldam has been after the cat or has at some point tried to ‘trap’ him in the other world. This supports the theory of the cat being a different magical entity, however i believe there’s some kind of connection between the cat and the blue boy painting. They have an uncanny resemblance, particularly in the beldam’s painting. The beldam obviously finds the painting important as it has been a constant throughout the film and is the only painting in the study room, which is the final room we see in the final beldam chase. This boy was obviously important to her somehow, whether it was her son or her first victim I don’t know, but the connection he has to the cat is undeniable in my opinion. The beldam hates cats however she does not take any severe measures to prevent the cat from meddling and while the cat himself reveals that she is aware of his existence and tries to ‘keep him out’, generally the cat seems to fly under her radar. This is, in my opinion, because the cat is in itself a magical being. My final opinion: the cat is somehow connected to the little blue boy. I think he could have been the beldams first victim and maybe due to her ‘inexperience’ or perhaps because he was in some way valuable to her (like her son maybe) his soul was not captured in an object like the other children, and instead he ended up in a living being (cat). If it was intentional on the part of the beldam or not, im not sure, but she certainly is somewhat powerless to stop the cat and the cat seems to oppose the beldam by trying to warn the children

Coralines first time going through the tunnel was just her dreaming she never actually went to the other world yet I’m not sure if the beldam has some sorta spells that makes kids lucid dream of going there but if you notice the first two times she goes to the other world she doesn’t use the key and the door is already open and she goes to the other world right after she goes to sleep in the real world hence why she wakes back up in the real world because it was just a dream the third time where she goes is actually her first time going to the other world where she uses the key and the black cat spots her going in at 2:12 and follows her in hence why the black cat says “you might think this place is a dream come true but your wrong”this leads me to believe that the cat does in fact know way of a lot more than he’s putting out I do believe coraline escaped but she’s definitely still in danger by how everything plays out in the last scene of the movie. Most witches are seen in media with a black cat companion that usually have their own magical properties. I think that he was the beldam's cat before she started kidnapping children and eating them and turned away from her once she lured and killed her first victim. The cat, now being disgusted and disturbed, now wants to protect the house's residents. It seems that he follows wybie around to keep him away from beldam and the pink palace as a whole.

There is a way that the beldam could have created the cat. Like you said, cats are cute and appealing to children so she may have created it as another ally to help lure and keep children in the other world. However, the cat may not have been controlled because the beldam may have thought that the cat would just learn obedience on its own and automatically listen to the beldam. I feel like the beldam did not gain the cats obedience and so the first time she tried to take a soul with the cats help, the cat betrayed her and helped the child instead of helping her. This is why she hates cats and she is aware that the cat is trying to help the kids so she tries to get him away from the children as much as she can. I don't know for sure though, just a theory.

Ok so HUGE SPOILER WARNING. This pertains more to the book than maybe the movie, but for those whose read alot of Neil Gaiman, the original author of Coraline. It was hinted of how the cat was described in the book saying his voice sounds like the voice that speaks in the back of your head, but isn't yours. The same description was given to Morpheus Dream of the Endless: the king, god and practical embodiment of dreams and nightmares in the Sandman graphic novels, describing that he speaks with the same description, while also being known to transform into a black cat. Its theorized that the beldam was one of his nightmares that escaped from his kingdom when Dream was held in captivity by occultists, until he escaped and ventured out to earth to retrieve his dreams and nightmares that abandoned his kingdom to search for their king or wreck havoc on the waking world somehow which is what the beldam may have been doing by devouring the souls of children. And the story of Coraline is about one of Dreams ventures to eliminate an escaped nightmare in his disguised cat form and through Coralines perspective and help.

If they don't respond I'd recommend OBS for screen recording, and DaVinci Resolve for editing. Both are free and have tons of tutorials for them (or premiere pro for editing which isn't free unless you like to sail the seven seas). There are some tutorials you can watch about how to record streaming services, but it boils down to going into your web browser's settings (mine's chrome) and turning off "Use graphics acceleration when available" to avoid the black screen you get when trying to record.

Him being a boy cat and being called a Witch? Not likely. The mice from the Other World have been basically confirmed to have little portals for them to go to the Other World. He simply knows how to exploit that and enter it at will. If he is a, “Witch”, then he wouldn’t be a Witch. He’d be a Warlock, a practitioner of Witchcraft, the difference being a Warlock is a man. I got a theory and my life would be complete if you did a video on it. So basically The Beldam looks like Paula Cracker and it makes me think that after she got kicked out of Gorillaz, she became this monster who's going after her kids. So The Beldam is Coraline's REAL mom. So The Dead Kids are basically Coraline's half siblings. HALF SIBLINGS because both Coraline and 2D gave blue hair. So she got that trait from her dad, and the thin eyebrows from her mom. (Mel and Charlie adopted her when she was a baby acc to this theory) Also, at the dinner scene, you can hear Charlie say something like "Well it's slime, or bedtime fusspot." So 2D's real name is Stuart Tusspot, but his dad changed it to Pot so he didn't get made fun of. Anyway, The Dead Kids have different hair colors from their dads. And I know you're gonna say "But Coraline's hair was brown in that one pic!" Hear me out. So notice how her haircut is the same as her brown hair. What if she dyed it brown to fit in, but as time went on and it grew out, she decided that she liked the blue. So she cut her hair like how it used to be, but she kept the blue. ALSO, look at the Phase 7 lore in Gorilaz. So The Forever Cult tries to take 2D's soul. Now, take a sec to watch the Silent Running music video. (Murdoc got rizz though) Notice how The Forever Cult is trying to lower 2D into a hole. Is that same hole connected toThe Old Well? And then The Beldam/Paula's hand knows how to get through those doors because she communicates with The Forever Cult.
