First thing I learned in Wing Chun twenty years ago was the repeating centerline punch. If you learn nothing else, that is the most important thing.

Thank you for the wise reminder to think in terms of “aggression and evasion”, as being the basic attitudes whilst training. Otherwise, practice lacks context.

G'day there firstly thank heavens I can finally watch something that is straight up interesting without all the BS stuff. Your common sense approach to fighting and various methods is very refreshing. Could you possibly do more on close quater combat both upper and lower body which includes a stand up grapple. Again thanks for sharing your knowledge, have a great day.

you look fast and powerful. Practice practice. I like wingchun because you are right there in front of the other fighter counterattacking. The more you spar the more comfortable it is to be there in that position

If you are into bare knuckle striking i would strongly suggest to use leather work gloves to strike the bag. This way you protect the skin on your knuckles and get stronger bones with time. Also you don't have the bulk of boxing gloves (even mma gloves could lead to bad habit).

Thanks for sharing and starting this intersting Wing Chun aspect♡ The core of Wing Chun is the engine and the straight punch, modelled after the steam train locomotion movements♡ Using and activating the spine (pushing the chest out) when punching helps to increase power combined with forward pressure and intent♡ The connection of bearknukle and Wing Chun ( nicely brought up) is often overlooked especially when training Wing Chun with gloves on, bearknuckle shifting footwork is also beneficial in creating powerful strikes♡ Keeping knuckles flat and square on target no matter the angle can help knuckles from getting broken and scratched due to not clipping when hitting♡ Thinking of wedging through obstructions, whilst driving in to targets (by eliminating the patty cake elements often seen) is important for striking with short range power strikes♡ Practicing catching a pole held out vertically and alternatively catching it with each hand helps with the opening and closing of the hands when catching it, also with coordinating straight punches in rapid machine gun mode striking♡ As with the straight punches are not only hitting target on the opponent but are also intended towards interrupting Incoming punches by deflecting or jamming them; keeping in line with the offensive and defence concept of Wing Chun♡ Maintaining forward pressure, downward and to the sides is also something to consider with these punches♡ Angling is a strong point of Wing Chun, which is simply striking from a variety of different "Angles"♡ where the straight blast can be used in many other ways than just straight♡ IMHO♡

Sifu Jason, excellent video as always. Can you explain the wing chun bottom three knuckles vertical punch? Aren't the bottom three knuckles more fragile? Ive heard of the boxer's fracture which happens when throwing a hook making contact with the bottom three knuckles. What is the reason for making contact with the bottom three (some even emphasize the bottom two) knuckles? Much appreciate the videos sifu.

I did wing chun for 20 years. Bruce Lee had it right. It's essential to add boxing kicking & grappling because wing chun is a scrapping concept not a style. As a syllabus it gives an effective system for close quarter attacks &trapping can be effective on the ground. But it can & should not be applied in sparring or as a general principle because it is full of bad positioning & too ridged if taken literally. Wing chun had had a lot of bad press recently with the development of MMA which confirmed Lees original journey into WC as he realised it's limitations. Personally I would never use wing chun on a bag as boxing skills pads and combinations ate mote effective than arrow punched which are will get one knocked out against an good boxer. So one has to adapt. Wing chun works in a stand punch up. Simple. But is useless for sparring & on almost ineffective on the ground. But mixed with jujitsu & other styles is still one of the most useful platforms to have a a basic training system.

Should all punches be in circles motion
@marcvinyard54135 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the video. Two questions: 1. Do you turn your hips as much as a boxer does with a rear straight or jab?? 2. Are you throwing these punched in an elliptical motion like the straight blast?
@phoenixeyewingtsun-wandswo35215 жыл бұрын
1. With development of your technique, yes you will turn your hips similar to that of a boxer. 2. Chain punching is more similar to that of a conveyor belt, the punch goes out straight and direct to the target, then is pulled back underneath the next punch going straight.

One of the most important things in JKD is to understand Bruce Lee it was held down by Judo Gene, Bruce Lee didn't make excuses instead he Incorporated grappling arts and wrestling

I like what you said the "Frankenenstuin" stance of the wait to react style of Wing Chun students. Which really is based on the wait to defend mentality of women ( And understandable so since the style was found by a woman) who will defend themselves but isn't normally the aggressor. Whereas JKD ( which was founded by a man who study Wing Chun Bruce Lee) the students R the aggressors. This is what really hurts Wing Chun practitioners in China. Being the aggressor can be very useful. It's all part of the yin yang process of natural forces.

One of the main problems I have with any JKD instructors online is the lack of Mount escapes, triangles from the bottom, armbars, Bridges, rolling, ground fighting, 80% of street fights go to the ground. You want to avoid this, but it's very likely you'll have to know what works down there

That saying "always go forward" is a misconception, I'm guessing it's a bad translation. If that was true, why would we have a name for footwork going back ? (toy ma) I think the proper translation is "always have your intent forward". Hence poon sao and chi sao. And I have rolled with WSL guys, they definitely have forward intent and I could feel it even in poon sao.
