I love waking up with songs in my mind about God. Fill your mind with things that are pure, true, honest, and that have praise to our Heavenly Father.

Psalm 139:17-24 KJV How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! [18] If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee. [19] Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: depart from me therefore, ye bloody men. [20] For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain. [21] Do not I hate them, O Lord, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee? [22] I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies. [23] Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: [24] And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

I really love this one. Interesting to sing how we hate with complete hatred those who hate God. You don't hear that thought at all in modern christian songs.

Yes, amen! And we have to remember that in the old covenant, their enemies were human, be we in the new covenant are to hate our spiritual enemies (Ephesians 6:12)...sin, our flesh, the lusts of the eyes and world, and pride of life and the devil.

@@barkiedale thank you! This is really key. I truly believe that we rob ourselves of a greater portion of the Psalms because of that simple misunderstanding. I believe that we're still supposed to be praying the imprecatory psalms with that new focus. Not only because it helps us process the evil in this world, but because they're a real tool and weapon in this spiritual battle. And if there's someone who has hurt us because they've come in agreement with the enemy or have allowed him to use them, the psalms remind us of their end if they keep going down that road. They remind us to pity them more than anything and cry out to God for their salvation. We unearth such treasures when we begin meditating on the complete word of God.

@@FJ-rh6io Yes, Amen!! And it’s exemplified and gives us a glimpse of the amazing divine loving nature of Jesus on the cross, as He prayed…”Father forgive them, for they know not what they do”. He knew full well who His enemies were!🙌🏻

The one thing about the Psalms is that they are the mind of Christ...as perfect sacrifice, sinful Israel (ps69) and risen savior and his perfect spiritual people...in this psalm it is Christ hating the Parissees and their judgmental, oppressive self righteousness and denial of God’s might and his mercy...they were the lions devouring the poor in spirit ( the contrite who are broken in their sin God’s people) condemning souls and judging themselves amongst men. These are Christ’s words, which is heavy now that we have the mind of Christ. Oh, the first part is the perfectly faithful Son extolling his Father. Praise Jesus for this kingdom we are in and this mind we have been given...I can see Christ and therefore I see the Father (Jhn 14:9 ) and they now reside with me. We are the temple for the triune God. Eph 2:22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

Psalm 139:17-24 ESV 17 How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! 18 If I would count them, they are more than the sand. I awake, and I am still with you. 19 Oh that you would slay the wicked, O God! O men of blood, depart from me! 20 They speak against you with malicious intent; your enemies take your name in vain.[b] 21 Do I not hate those who hate you, O Lord? And do I not loathe those who rise up against you? 22 I hate them with complete hatred; I count them my enemies. 23 Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts![c] 24 And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting![d]
