The cornetto has a warmth and richness of sound , which the modern successors , brass trompets , simply cannot match ! This quality also makes it eminently miscible with the human voice .

Qué timbre tan bello tiene, y qué agilidad...

I have a question: if the two halves of the cornetto were just glued together (with today's glue) and not covered by leather, would it sound the same? Oh and I have another question: does there exist a 20th or even 21st Century repertoir for cornetto? (considering that such a repertoir exists for harpsichord and even for recorder, it would be less surprising than it sounds)

Bravo! Please tell me in what key and in what harmony the classical cornetto is tuned?

The cornetto seems to avoid the brash and vulgar sort of sound that always seems to come with trumpets, as well as the perceived 'thinness' of double-reed instruments that this might be comparable with. I'd say someone needs to revive them as a modern wooden instrument, with a modern keying system if necessary.

With the incredible agility that professional players show, why would keys be necessary? More things to clatter and go wrong.

Todd Sterben It has happened to all the surviving woodwind and brass instruments, all of which are played by top class musicians. If the cornett hadn’t disappeared, it is highly likely that the same would have happened.

It’s a shame that it is such a difficult instrument to play. When played as well as this, it is a beautiful and versatile instrument and if it had been easier to play, I don’t believe it would have fallen out of fashion as it did.
