In 2020 I was tired of reading books, tired of watching movies on DVD and I couldn't do one more jigsaw puzzle so I found my mom's knitting needles and some yarn and I thought that I would just tried to knit a scarf. It was a total failure but I was determined to try again. I didn't know what I was doing but what really helped me the most was the online knitting community. Watching so many enthusiastic knitters I got hooked on knitting. I love watching a podcast and that person mentions another podcaster and soon I am watching a new podcast in the community. Thanks to all for sharing your talents! 🧶

As a more isolated person I appreciate the breadth of resource available via the knitting community. Compared to years ago you really can find out various ways 'how to do' almost anything knitting related. I also enjoy seeing how different people complete their projects, I find looking at patterns a lot of them look really enormous, it really helps seeing a completed project from around the globe. Best regards, Heather

The knitting community is helpful and understanding. They understand what it actually takes to do a knitting project…the time and effort that goes into each item. They understand love of yarn when others just don’t get it. Most of all, they understand that there isn’t one “right” way to knit, and that everyone needs help a little now and then. This community helps each other…from KZbin videos and tutorials to free advice and tips to supporting and promoting other small businesses and indie dyers. The knitting community is a true “community.”

As a person who lives in a remote area and can't join a knit night at a local yarn shop to be with other people, knitting alone can be a tad lonely. When I watch your podcasts I feel like you are just sitting across from me and we are just chatting about knitting. Your podcasts are warm and friendly and I feel like you genuinely want to have a real community amongst your viewers. I think that's why you have grown to 5000 followers so quickly. I find that knitters do help each other out when one of them has a question or gets stuck during a project. I recently found you and have watched all your videos. I really like when you take us around town for little tours. It's nice to get a glimpse of someone else's part of the world. Congrats on 5000.

I get so much from the knitting community. Some words that spring to mind about it are: support, fun, ideas, enthusiasm , encouragement and inspiration. Ans such generous sharing of time and skills. For my 60th earlier this year, my husband asked if I wanted a party and I replied: No, I’d like to knit all day. So I invited about 35 people, from the three knitting/spinning groups I attend regularly, as well as those I’ve been to Shetland Wool Week with (been twice now) and from our annual pilgrimage for a weekend at the Blackpool Knitting Hotel. My husband must have made more than a hundred cups of tea and coffee throughout the day, as well as three soups and some home made bread (What a star!). People brought cakes and it was a really wonderful day. So enjoying your podcasts - thank you for all the hard work that goes into them.

Well basically, the knitting community is very special to me. And the podcasts that have popped up (including yours!) have just given me such inspiration. Showing me that I can make a sweater, or a hat, or more recently I can now do socks!! I have finally been able to create objects besides shawls and blankets, which is what I basically did using books as guidance. Plus, it just seems that knitters are just kind, creative, helpful and friendly. And in this chaotic world, it a good way to relax, be creative and get to know good people.

For me, the knitting community is inspiring, passionate and generous. I've been knitting since I was a teenager (now in my 60s) and my knitting practice has been totally reinvigorated by KZbin knitting podcasts over about the last year. Having just been to the NY S &W festival in Rhinebeck NY , I can still feel that warmth of being with 30,000 of “my people” ,,,, I just have to use the word love . Love is what makes the knitting community so special l. I think it’s the “LOVE”; if you listen to yourself in the blog , ( or any knitter speak about their yarn or pattern or completed object or knitting activity ) ,,, the word LOVE will be there someplace . We are just SO happy doing something we love , that it spills out and all over our community. It’s our happy place ,,, a warm blanketing feeling of love … And who can’t use a little of that ?

I first found the knitting community quite by accident when I had just had shoulder surgery and was miserable at home in the aftermath. Was wandering around on KZbin which was rather new to me, found The Grocery Girls, loved them! So funny. I then found The Bakery Bears and then Fruity Knitting, Little Drops of Wonderful and hey, I found my people! I just can't believe that I've connected with so many people all over the world (I'm in NZ) who read my comments and respond (just like you, Jane, go the ABs!!), who love yarn and crafting and seem to also know lots of the other people I watch from afar, it's like a secret club and I'm part of it! Love it and long may it continue ❤😊 well done on your milestone, well deserved 👏

I first discovered the online knitting community during lockdown. I considered myself an excellent knitter. Then I started to learn new techniques like steeks, alternative cast ons and off. Colourwork techniques and top down construction. I then felt like a little fish in a very big pond but soaked up the new things like a sponge. I wish I was in a position to help with your crowdfunding but I will be buying yarn from you in the new year (before if I can) Your podcast is very enjoyable. I’m particularly happy that you’re “local” and that you sell British wool. I’m in sunny Blackpool in the North West. Thank you Jane for “company” and the ideas and inspiration.

What I like about the knitting community is how happy people are to share their knowledge...and sometimes their stash! Recently, I ran out of yarn and found some people with the same yarn in stash. I messaged a few to ask if they would be willing to sell a skein or two, and more than one person offered to just send it to me for free! I've also gotten wonderful advice on pattern modifications from other knitters (through Ravelry). The incredible generosity of knitters has always amazed and delighted me.

The knitting community is my secret encouragement to keep me knitting. Before I was undecided to what I should knit next… and days went by…. now I have so many ideas/envies to what I would like to knit… It is so fun! Dungarees: try crossing the braces in your back ( eventually sew them in a crossed place. a few stitches should be enough for a start, later if it isOK sew some more). the higher the cross, the less they fall over the shoulders. love from 🇨🇭

Very relatable dungaree troubles! I cross my straps over at the back which helps a little. It looks lovely with that sweater. What I love about the knitting community is that it can both connect you to your local traditions (I’m knitting my mum a beret in yarn from the village her mum was born in currently) but we also have this universal connection, and if you ask a question on Ravelry from your sofa in the Netherlands, people from Australia to Canada will be tripping over each other thinking along and trying to help. That’s pretty special. Speaking of the Netherlands, an orange sweater called William is a bit on the nose 😂 I should make one in case I’ll ever be called on to support one of our national teams when it’s nippy out! So lovely to meet Nikki. I’m super excited for the KAL.

I love connecting with a community of like-minded, curious, and supportive people through knitting. Even though I am an isolated knitter, I feel connected with others by learning about new patterns, techniques, and even areas of the world that I learn about while watching lovely podcast like yours. Thanks for what you contribute to this community! Cheri

The wonderful knitting community, along with our amazing Jane stitches and cream, has given me the encouragement to believe in myself that "yes, I can" knit the amazing garments that I see others have made. Everyone in the knitting community were once beginners too.

What I like about the knitting community is the way people share- I learn a lot from those who take the time to film and edit podcasts as well as from people who leave comments. Congratulations on passing 5000! You look so comfortable filming these now- a real pro!!

The knitting community has been a great source of knowledge and also support. I have no local knitting groups near me, and my Mum (who was always so interested in my projects ) has recently passed away. Consequently I would feel very isolated if it wasn’t for the lovely knitting people I’ve been able to interact with online.

Sorry for your loss. Losing a mum must be so very hard and it’s great that you can reach out to fellow knitters for support and friendship online 😊

Great podcast as always, the interview with Nikki was lovely, what a talented lady! The knitting community has stood the test of time and is now more popular than ever, when l first started knitting you could go to your local wool shop and ‘put your yarn by’, which basically meant you could take 1 or 2 balls away with you, and when you got paid the following week you could go and pay for the rest thus ensuring that you maintained the same dye lot, Mrs Lisky the shop owner would always be happy to help if you struggled with any stitches or deciphering a pattern! Showing my age here 😂, but the point is the knitting community has always been accommodating, welcoming and naturally inclusive, which is why its a great community to be part of ♥️🧶
@thecornishknitter Жыл бұрын
I can remember those times too so we must be similar ages 😜. In fact we do the same for local customers who may struggle to afford a sweater quantity of yarn in one go. We keep it for up to 8 weeks.
