Guess what? It still sounds like "I'll eat you all." Just like it did all those years ago. One of my very first favorite videos from all those years ago when KZbin was nearly new. Old times. ^____^ The Corries forever after. ♥

Imagining a Godzilla-sized Scottish Jesus stomping around a 1st century provincial Roman town joyously threatening to eat everyone, no matter their identity.

I like how they perform not on a platform but on the same ground as the audience. It gives a feeling of closeness, like the bards of old by the fireplace.
@aileenlightbody916 жыл бұрын
They were very good on the stage too, and in fact only really started doing shows like this in the later part of their career.

Answer to all 3; small venue. I think they played small venues from start as all musicians do and continued to play stages right through. We were at Paisley Town Hall for one of their last concerts before Roy had his brain surgery and have seen Ronnie perform solo on stage at the Glasgow Concert Hall years after.
@redravenrages63212 жыл бұрын
And shows how they think of themselves no greater or more powerful than the people they play for. They actually have respect for the people they play for, believe it or not. These things are very rarely seen in today’s “musicians” or celebrities. Quite egotistical these pop folk now.

Only The Corries could have taken such a universally known song, and one sung by millions of schoolchildren around the world and made it sound so utterly original. Wonderful stuff.

@daweshorizon6 жыл бұрын
The Corries version of this childhood hymn is unquestionably the best ever done. Stripped down to the fundamental story of Jesus's life but without the trappings of churchiness, Sydney Carter's words strike a chord with the basic essence of humanity, whatever belief background you come from: The Corries hit the nail on the head with this punchy but melodic rendition. Fab!

@@theophileburtz1624 Fair comment, that's good too. The tune was an American Shaker hymn originally, called Simple Gifts, but it was played much slower and more like a dirge. Whichever way it is taken, it's a great tune and song. Love and peace.
@RabbiHerschel3 жыл бұрын
Sydney Carter was a vile heretic, but I like this hymn because he set out to write a subversive hymn to thumb his nose at small-o orthodox Christianity, but forgot to put in the subversive bits.
