I had written to an address I found on a record jacket, asking where they were playing in autumn '89. Ronnie wrote me back himself, with a list of venues, and I met them after their concert in Portree when they came out to sign autographs. When I asked Ronnie if I could get a picture with them, he called to Roy, "Hey! One of the Colonials wants a photo here!" and I still treasure it. How could anyone 'dislike'?! RIP Roy.

Land o' the Kilt and Sporran - Underneath, there's nothin' worn! How I wish the wind was warm! Scotland the Brave. I must admit it's pretty gruesome, Walking about wi' your frozen twosome! It's all we've got - we musn't lose 'em - Scotland the Brave. Best paragraph ever.

I met the Corries after a concert in Inverness years ago.Ronnie came across as a bit pernickety but Roy was a lovely gentleman.Whatever their differences were, there has not been another such phenomenon in Scotland as far as wit, humour and perfectly-timed music are concerned, for many years. How lucky were we who were there when it was happening! Get in there you Youngies! It's all been left for YOU!

For, as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any condition be brought under English rule. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself. Taken from the Declaration of Arbroath, 1320, which asserted Scotland's right to international recognition as an independent country.

IIRC ..this is around 1974 in the Music Hall in Aberdeen. I loved the Corries then, and still do. I was a real "SNP" chap in those days....now I have no time for them. Pity they got "hi-jacked" by the left in the late 70s/early 80s.

Simply put... its a traditional martial air. Americans are/were just as likely to play the Marseilles (or even Prussian's Gloria) as well as just American favorites as "The Washington Post March" or the "Marine Corps Hymn"

I'm very sorry to correct you there skempFUSS, but Scotland DOES have a national anthem. In the World Cup, rugby, other sporting events, we sing Flower of Scotland, but in the Commonwealth Games they play Scotland the Brave. The Scottish Parliament have already had this debate. Scotland is a seperate State that is joined in Union with the Kingdom of England, the Principality of Wales, and obviously Northern Ireland... we exists in a mutually beneficial nation among nations.
