Japan needs to expand steel industry within Japan, too. It's a good call. Quit US steel and manufacture more steel and steel products within Japan. Then instead of paying, impose heavy rent on US military bases for national security risk factors.

Electric arc furnace can not produce steel from iron ore. Only a blast furnace can produce steel from ore. Nippon steel is building a new blast furnace in India at this time. Because the demand for steel is higher than the EAF irecycled steel can produce.
