My wife and I faced this same dilemma coming out of the Great Recession in the USA in 2009 (at age 53) and quickly learned to just pay everything off, never buy depreciating assets (like new cars), stop spending money on non-essentials, and learn to minimalize. 10 years later, we were debt free and living on a cash basis... and we have never lived better! It takes a bit of financial discipline, but you can do it. I will add that moving abroad was the best move we ever made. You are still young enough to reach your goals, just stick to the plan. Best wishes for the future. #tropicshade!

I try to live frugally. I have a paid for car, only a small mortgage, no credit cards, only a small amount in student loans which I do intend to pay off by the end of the financial year. I am well on my way to being debt free and when that time comes I know it will feel like a bit of a weight lifted but then I really need to knuckle down and invest more! Moving abroad is definitely the go when it comes to retiring or if you can work online and get a western salary because I'm sure as you know money goes a lot further in a lot of non western countries!

@livinginthepacific Australia missed out on the 2008 GFC to a great extent. We kept selling coal to China 🇨🇳 Only Problem with that was our housing prices hardly dropped . Australian government policy was to use housing to kick the can down the road. Now we having some of the highest housing prices on the Earth 🌎 🙃

@@REZNAP just need to prepare the best we can. As soon as they put the money printers up to light speed I did know that the velocity of money would catch up and things would become a lot more expensive, but it's still a shock by how much.

@@cryptoslacker-464 I hate to see anyone struggling through no fault of their own. You see a lot more tents around and people living in cars now because it's just so unaffordable to have a roof over your head; it's heartbreaking for these people.

@musicmylifesince1993 I'm near Sydney, happening more here too . Inequality has been a problem for a long time but high inflation is just the icing on the cake.

I lived in Perth in 2012 and paid 200/week in a house share! That was nothing compared to my weekly earnings at the time! Same situation here in the UK - just unrealistic/depressing to sign up for a 30year mortgage on an overpriced flat! I’m planning on moving back to Brazil and have the “luxury” of buying a flat with the deposit money I would need in the UK and become rent free! No point to be on a “good” engineering salary where half of net income goes to rent!

@@_mklein I think that moving to more affordable places is what a lot of people are going to do going forward. Life is for living and not just existing to work and pay bills and have very little left to put towards your future or have any kind of "fun money".

@@rohans888 Countries are buying up gold because they know it has value, especially China and Russia. That's why the price of gold has skyrocketed. Even at this price I still believe it is worth buying 2 to 5% of your entire net worth in gold and silver. Though I do not have any gold and only a small amount of silver at present.

@musicmylifesince1993 countries also Buying Bitcoin. It has a major advantage over Gold , being Digital it isn't restrained my physical limitations like Gold. There is a reason physical Cash is disappearing from our lives. I think we will need Bitcoin to fill that gap. Or we will have quite the dystopian future 🤯
