The beef is also good in the Monteria region. But yeah it can be pretty bad depending on the region.

Hey Sara. In Colombia I had a specialty meat shop that has ribeye steaks because that other meat was too tough. Wings just became popular there in the last 3 years and the prices were really low but for other things the price wasn’t a huge difference but you can by brown eggs and the chicken with yellow skin which is organic for Colombia at the same price as non organic in america. Colombia doesn’t have an organic section. Most of it is organic but it’s changing. They separate the white chicken and the yellow chicken. That’s what I saw in Ibague.
@SaraBurdick2 ай бұрын
oh interesting. I will have to ask the butcher to see if they have ribeye! we are there so much now, he knows us. I notice in Medellin and the bigger cities they are into the organic, non organic. I think eventually I will have meat chickens, at least then I know what they eat! It is interesting how things change here!

How is the ribeye there?
@SaraBurdickАй бұрын
@@gadgetgrader I have not had a ribeye here...
@SpenglishАй бұрын
@@gadgetgrader they were tender but much smaller maybe to keep the price down. They weren’t dirt cheap. Maybe 25% cheaper than the USA. The other meat is so tough it’s worth it. The only other option for something tender was frozen and there something off with that taste but I remember getting a nice ribeye in a Restaurant for what equated to $10

I didn't know about flat land making a difference in the texture of the meat. One other thing. the stench in Kettleman City may have been due to hormones. But I think the animals are sentient beings and I honestly believe they're stressed out and the anxiety is what the stench is. I can't help but think this.
@SaraBurdick2 ай бұрын
yep! i had no idea either.. i completely agree with the cows being stressed out!

The cost of everything here is so over inflated you can't even begin to compare in my opinion. It's gotten so bad that you just purchase necessities and your over budget. Buying pork belly there is reasonable you should learn how to make Lard from the fat Sara using lard is so much more healthy and you can actually store meats or preserve them within the lard.
@SaraBurdick2 ай бұрын
yea, I cant even imagine how much things cost now. I saved the grease, but I def need to look into making lard! Thanks, I never thought of that, but I remember as a kid we always had lard around, we also butchered our own hogs.
@jeffreymore67992 ай бұрын
@@SaraBurdick there are KZbin videos on the process of making lard from the fat. It's amazing how many younger people find the word lard revolting and yet they don't do the research on oils that they use for cooking even simple things like eggs.

I buy beef, lamb and chicken raised without hormones and antibiotics. Beef and lamb are grass fed. The price of beef depends on type and cut. Ground beef costs me 6USD/lb and NY strip steak 22USD/lb. Don't recall price of lamb. For chicken I mostly get wings in bulk at 5.50USD/lb, as they are a good source of collagen. You didn't mention organ meets. I get calf liver at around 10USD/package when available, only chicken livers tend to be common in supermarkets. Halal shops have more organ meat variety.

Colombians don’t waste millions of styrofoam platters selling prepackaged meat like they do in the USA. Meat is cut by a butcher and sold from the display case. 🥩 🍖
