I own an older Mondial. I do all of my own wrenching, partly to avoid crazy labor rates, and partly because I enjoy it. I find that most of the non driveline parts on the car are sourced from other manufacturers and readily available for reasonable money. When the door lock actuator recently broke, I cross referenced it to a Ford of the same vintage and got an NOS one for $40. Even had a Ford oval emblem on it. BMW window switches, fiat power window motors, etc. Parts availability is usually not a problem, especially when compared to my 1989 Corvette.

But at least it’s not always check engine light on a small cheaper part is needed on the bottom of the engine like newer post 2010 BMW, Audi and Mercedes. Spending the same averaged out and those brands the car is worth next to nothing after being 15 years old. The Ferrari or Lamborghini is and continues to go up in value the older it gets. It’s like buying an expensive home in a high end neighborhood. It’s in demand so it goes up in value. Buying a cheaper home in a bad neighborhood will never see any real appreciation in price.

I think it's hilarious how mechanics default to the excuse "I'm waiting for parts." I've worked on these cars and drive one every day for years and performed all the servicing he mentioned with no issues with parts, EVER. Just call Ricambi, Ferrparts, Wide World Ferrari (lots of good parts there discounted) and spring for the extra $30 shipping overnight and fix that car in ONE DAY. I just replaced an internal diff shaft in a 360 which the dealer quoted $20K for - cost me $450 and one afternoon of work. Got it back on the road the next day. You are overpaying for the variator solenoids. I paid $350 each for mine directly from Ferrari (599/430/Enzo). Within 1K miles, the oil will start to migrate again, so if you're replacing simply because there are traces of oil then you are wasting your time. If it starts to spill into other wiring or throw a code and cause a startup rattle, then it's time to replace. Same with the valve cover gaskets and plug rings - easy peasy job on that car. The front main will be a pain though. Either way, you need to call around for parts and pay the extra couple bucks and get the car back on the road. I know Tyler doesn't care but a normal customer shouldn't have to wait around for months for a car that is simply "in the queue" for repair.

Yes, it is possible to build a flat-plane crank twelve-cylinder engine, although it's considered a very specialized design, often seen in high-performance racing cars, with the most notable example being the Ferrari flat-12 engines used in Formula One and some road cars in the past; essentially, a "flat-twelve" engine utilizes a flat-plane crankshaft layout with 12 cylinders arranged in two banks of six, positioned at 180 degrees to each other. Key points about flat-plane crank twelve-cylinder engines: Design complexity: Due to the high number of cylinders and the need for precise balancing, designing and manufacturing a flat-plane crank V12 is significantly more challenging than a V8 with a flat-plane crank. High-performance focus: These engines are typically found in high-end racing cars where the focus is on high RPMs and rapid throttle response, which are advantages of a flat-plane crank design. Historical examples: Ferrari is well-known for their flat-12 engines, particularly in their Formula One cars like the 312T, where this design was successfully implemented.

Once in a while, they'll go on a specific loop - a loop that lets the car warm up, climb a hill, hit reasonable speeds, and then cool down before making the drive back to my house. It's about a 10 mile loop. Unless it's extremely low mileage (like my GLH Omni) then it's likely to get driven for a few days, up to a week. I then swap that vehicle out for another one.

Engine - driveshaft - gearbox - differential, if I remember is known as a De Dion setup

great show great car doesn’t look like it has been maintained very well. Hopefully he didn’t pay a lot of money for it. You have to take that into consideration on deferred maintenance. Thank you.

As JP Morgan once said: "If you have to ask the price, you can't afford it".

I’ve always heard of the rule of three: good, fast or cheap, you can only have two. Wizard transcendence that rule. It ain’t cheap, it won’t be fast, but it’ll be good and honest. A incredibly rare thing these days.

It's usually fast, cheap and reliable. Pick any two.

Are there any super or luxury cars like this one, that don't have those insane part prices? I've heard that the 360 isn't that bad to maintain, but still probably 2-3 times more costly than a regular BMW.

AMG C or E63 6.2, seems easy to work on the stuff that needs attention. Simple timing and cam structure and plenty of space to work. Maybe not luxury but enough super car for most of us.

The F360 was my favorite but I do love the 458 also.

When you ask why the prices are so insane is like why a male dog licks himself, because they can.

Not as expensive as parts for the F40 that left the road and rolled into a light pole in the UK last week, only about 5 miles from my home. It was being driven by a workshop Tech.

Was it F40 or F50 just about a year ago, similar mishap in Germany I think. Sales rep or mechanic getting the infamous 'shoulder lock' 😅

$1,000 for that actuator is taking the piss, even for Ferrari. Surely, this can be sourced aftermarket?

They go for about 350.00 Wizard finds the highest possible price so he can make a video about it.

Buying a high end car is one thing, keeping it in good condition is another. Just because the car is 10 years old doesn't mean the parts are any cheaper, if anything they will be a lot more expensive, if you can find them.

A Silicon Valley billionaire my colleague worked for bought three exotic Italian cars. He pronounced them "socialism for mechanics" and sold them. Three NSX's took their place.

I’m curious whether you buy a Ferrari maintenance manual for this car and if so how much is a Ferrari mm?

So Ford has Buick beat, cam solenoid For Ecoboost 3.5 2017 OEM from dealer 1/2025 under$30. I suspect same part # is used on bunch of different models, cheaper by the dozen.

I do sometimes wonder if the Car Wizard is genetically engineered? He seems to know SO much. I almost felt as smart as him at the 2 shops I worked at that did have Identifix. As he stated " you can't know everything about everything". Identifix is a god send!

That's the good ole Ferrari tax! Kinda like the big green weenie. It always gets ya!
@autobotjazz197211 күн бұрын
I won't lie i would be shocked if the prices for parts on any Ferrari weren't insane. Their are various factors to why this is, starting with Ferrari knowing they can basically charge what they want for repair parts and then there is the relative low volume of production for anything Ferrari makes so it is not profitable for 3rd party companies to produce aftermarket repair parts for them., even more so when you consider how complicated and precise some parts for these cars can be.
@Shadowcify10 күн бұрын
I’d say this isn’t even a drop in the water for Hoovie. In the beginning of his YT career you could definitely relate to him with the repairs but it doesn’t feel the same way now that he’s loaded. It has turned towards more of a showcase of luxury. Luckily we have the Wizard to show us the interesting side of the cars.
