One thing to always do, particularly with new construction: get a high efficiency heat pump quoted, but also a traditional A/C system without heat pump quoted. Now take those thousands of dollars saved and see how much more insulation you can afford. The insulation works for you all year for free, the heat pump only gives an advantage within its optimal temperature range. So far insulation has always won out for my jobs in the Alabama climate.
