The Costume Design Of Romeo + Juliet (1996) With Leonardo DiCaprio

It's been a long time since I put out a video, part of that is my fault but a lot of it has to do with copyright stuff. I planned on releasing this video later in time but because of some unfortunate events that's not going to happen. ANYWAY! Welcome! In todays video I'm going to be going to walk you through Bad Luhrmann's 1996 rendition of Romeo + Juliet. An amazing spin on a classic Shakespearian play. I'm going to show you the montages and the capulets wardrobe and what they were dressed in and then I'm going to answer the age old question, WHO WERE THE BETTER DRESSERS???

Nice video! I like that the two clans' young men are shown to have complementary mixes of flashy and utilitarian touches. And with those contrasting silhouettes you can imagine they would be able to tell each other apart even in the event of a nighttime battle. At the moment, I find the Capulets in general more impressive dressers, with Tybalt leading the pack.

The Capulet dress and hair and sideburns look like they were patterned after Rudolph Valentino while the bright loud and loose clothes of the Montegue reminds me more of 50s and early 60s Elvis.

I have to imagine they were custom made from Dolce & Gabbana but if you look up flamenco boots with a Cuban heel it’ll be a similar silhouette. Hope this helps!
