During a Christmas as a young man, I was sitting in my best friends living room watching Edward Scissorhands. During the movie I remarked how it was one of my absolute favorite movies of all times. His Aunt sat quietly behind us during the movie. I spent Christmas Break hanging out with a very sweet women by the name of Colleen. Later that week after she had left, my buddy informed me... that she had made the costumes for Edward Scissor hands. I had spent an evening of my Christmas Break watching a movie by the artist responsible for one of my favorite memories. She is an amazing person, and gentle soul.

What a wonderful story! Thank you so much for sharing. I was actually trying to decide which movie to do, Sleepy Hollow or Edward Scissorhands. I will probably get to it maybe for Halloween.

steel wasnt used in corsets or stays until the 1850s. 18TH century stays were never intended to create a smaller waist, they were worn to create the conical shape. Also, metal eyelets were a victorian invention that made tight lacing possible. 18TH century stays had sewn eyelets

Sleepy Hollow is one of my favorite movies based on one of my favorite stories. I love Coleen Atwood's work, she's has kind of a mystical, elegant, whimsical, and look of effortless beauty. Katrina's black and white gown at the end of the film has been one of my top dream dresses since I saw the film. It's amazing that dress in particular has left such a huge impact and fan love when it's only in the movie for like six seconds. Just goes to show how much an impact costumes can make on the audience.

Fantastic video, as always! I totally agree that it's a shame that studios don't hold onto more costumes or donate to museums for display, but I can understand the need from a business or storage perspective. I'm sure you get tons of requests for ideas, but I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Stardust costumes. It's a steampunk/fantasy movie and has an interesting blend of historic costume to build the world.

@@Costume_CO Of course! I love your videos and am always excited to hear your thoughts on costume design! Stardust is on Netflix right now (Starring Claire Danes and Charlie Cox) and is based on a novel by Neil Gaiman. It doesn't happen often, but I prefer the movie to the book (maybe I just need to reread the original). The production team brought the story to life in such an ingenious way and, IMO, is the movie is underrated. Great casting, fantastic direction and timeless story make for a fun (and, at times, poignant) movie.

The film was not shot with a blue filter. It was a process called "ENR" or "Silver Retention" which gives the final print deep inky blacks, desaturates color and gives higher contrast. That is the reason why Depp's black coat has the edges done like they are. It's so that after the film is processed, you can see his clothes more clearly and they aren't lost in the deepened blacks caused by this particular process.

Hello, verry interresting vidéo as always, just a little something I'm not sure at all about about the Pierrot jacket, because although pierrot can refer to a kind of sparrow it is also the nickname for Pierre (Peter) and as this kind of caraco is very much inspired by the man's fashion of this time earea, I always thought it was the reason why it was called like that. I'd really like to have your thought about it =)
@Costume_CO6 жыл бұрын
Hello See! I'm not an historian by any means! I actually found that the sparrow/pierrot connection came from another costume blogger who does a pretty good breakdown on the differences of the types of jackets: blog.americanduchess.com/2010/10/what-is-difference-between-caraco-and.html It does make sense to me that the tail is like that of a sparrow.

It's a shame the costume Miranda Richardson wears when Lady Van Tassle kills her sister is only seen for a few seconds, because it is gorgeous. Its exotic details also feel witch-like, which is appropriate since she's more of a hag than her poor sister, who practices real magic.

@@Costume_CO I disliked it for being: 1) not fitting in the historical context (not something a mercenary from that era would have worn) 2) Appearing cheaply made and very uncomfortable/impractical without offering anything in return 3) the aesthetics are completely off. 4) the decorations look horribly cheesy, like some cheap halloween costume 5) for anyone that knows a little about swords, the sword is an atrocity to the eyes. It may be incidentally a decent weapon to chop off heads, but not a good combat weapon by any means and the grip wouldn´t be any good either. I better stop here...I guess 2-4) are mostly my opinion, but for a crew that made so many well designed and manufactured costumes in a single film, that costume is an outlier as obvious a big wood splinter in your foot...

@@edi9892 propstore.com/blog/headless-horseman/ The Headless Horseman was noted as not being a typical member of the Hessians since he wasn't in it for money but killing. We don't get told about his background so he could have been very wealthy (he didn't care about money after all) hence the initial high quality clothes and not what a typical hessian would have worn. propstoreauction.com/view-auctions/catalog/id/44/lot/9689/ I have seen worse historical swords. It is wielded by two hands and it looks like it has more grip area then a number of historical swords that were used in combat such as Zweihanders.
