Turns out there WAS a real scare actor in the Disneyland Haunted Mansion for the Halloween season in the late 80's- early 90's, around the same time as the living Knight. He was named... "Lord Ravenswood". Yeah. Offhand Disneyland has an interview with a former Haunted Mansion actor who was a Grim Reaper.

I’ve also heard that Barnabas Collins from the spooky and dramatic show Dark Shadows was also a strong influence that was drawn upon for The Count.
