It’s worth noting that Villefort’s motivation for covering up the letter was not primarily to protect his father but rather to protect his own reputation.

It was cute but left a lot out. Most importantly about Villfort's wife killing off all her stepdaughters family and "killing" her stepdaughter before she is caught and kills herself and her son. After witch Villfort goes insane.

Anyone actually willing to read the book in its fullness would know that it is infinitely better than the movie. Ive seen the movie plenty of times and read the book too, and I can say flatout that the book contains more depth, more detail, a wider and more thrilling story, as well as the endless list of allusions it makes to magnificent pieces of literature, art of the 1800’s, and the various societal/political positions of nineteenth century France. Even though the movie is good, you would certainly be doing yourself a huge favor by reading the book. There is never a dull moment in that book. It may sound long and unworth the time it takes to read, but I can guarantee that it is a thrilling story of adventure from the beginning to the end, and I would 10 out of 10 recommend.

A movie cannot adapt properly the story, and to me it was pretty disastrous. Not only does they simplify the story, they change very important plot points which change completely the moral message of the novel. Never a dull moment ? even when Pastrini tell Franz about Vampa's backstory, when Vampa himself was told the backstory of another thief ? Dumas was payed by the number of words so yeah. I wouldn't say there are no dull moment. Still it's definitely in another league than the movie.

The French tv version starring Gerard Depardieu is a more complete rendition of the story. It’s about 6 hours long, but very well done. It’s on KZbin with English subtitles.

No Its diffrent art a book of course you have as many pages as you need a film is 2 hours and its visual with audio ....We can tell so much about Darth Vader in a the first 60 seconds on screen yes learning what his 3rd grade teacher and pages and. Pages of back story help I guess but if you have eyes ears you can tell hes a badass cyborg means business ect. So even in the directors commentary of course he wanted to spend more time in the prison with his teacher those wete great meaningful scenes with great actors but 20 mintues we get the point its not shawshank we can't spend the whole 2 hours in the prison he meets a great wise man he teaches him everything he learns lessons an escapes 20 mintues next

There are a few mistakes in your explanation of the plot. Dantes is celebrating his marriage to Mercedes at the tavern he's arrested at. Danglars wrote the letter that got Dantes arrested, not the letter Dantes received on Elba. Fernand set the letter to France, not Elba.

I read the Robin Buss translation, published by Penguin. Gaspar is Caderousse's first name, but it is only mentioned once in the beginning and then he is referred to by Caderousse for the rest of the book. Yeah, Villefort goes insane and then Morrel and Valentine watch the Count and Haydee sail away.

Caderousse didn’t “help” to write the letter. Fernand and Danglars get him really drunk and he actually tries to stop the whole thing going down at the party but Danglars scares him saying that he would be accused of being a Bonapartist if Edmond was found indeed guilty. So he shuts up and lets the ball roll. He was super greed and avaricious though.

Mercedes is a person who was also rewarded and punished. The Count gives Albert and elixir to bring him counious(reward). At the end of the book she is left with out a son heart broken, he is sent to Africa to work to give his mother money.

erika daunheimerr no, Albert is not sent to Africa! After he learns the truth from Mercedes his mother, he no longer wants to be identified as the vicount of Morcef, and he realises that the scandal is too much for him to bear. His mother and him decides to leave the house Fernando Mondego known as the Count the Morcef had bought. As Fernand hears them depart from the house leaving most of the valuable things (they realize it is blood money), Fernando kills himself. Edmond Dantès had prepared a little treasure for Mercedes, the money he had sparred before going to prison. Mercedes goes back to Marseille to live in the house of Edmond’s father and Albert joins the army bearing the name of his maternal grandfather as he is too conscious that his father’s name is too stained for him to continue bearing. So Albert is not sent to Africa, he chooses Africa.

Edmund has no choice but to become the person he had become in prison. Edmund realized that his innocence had landed him in prison. He trusted the wrong people and was taken advantage of by them. His young persona had to die to survive prison and the loss of his life and his father’s. If Edmund had stayed mentally the same he would have died in prison. This story is ultimately like many other stories and life. People ultimately sow the seeds of their own destruction by their ill deeds. Ultimately all debts must be paid in full. The film made in 2002 changes the story and turns the dark to light. Edmund’s pirate friend saves Edmund from the dark fate he is creating.

The Count of Monte Cristo is not an invention. The man in flesh and blood who inspired Alexandre Dumas for the figure of Edmond Dantès was his father, Thomas Alexandre Davy de la Pailleterie known as "General Dumas", who in 1799 was imprisoned in the Aragonese Castle of Taranto, which in the famous novel became the Castel d'If. Precisely in the Aragonese Castle of Taranto on 10 September 2020 an exhibition curated by Tonio Attino was inaugurated with illustrations by Nico Pillinini, a narrative path that describes the Taranto imprisonment of the Napoleonic officer, transformed into a literary hero by his son. The exhibition is always open: we are waiting for you !! Other news on the FB page "Francesco Ma".

It’s a great story of both love and revenge. But I admire Monte Christo because he don’t take it out on innocent and that he helps those who have helped him. If he was in prison for a long time falsely accused i thought the logic thing was to harm everyone except those involved in throwing him in jail. I think prison changes a man but he had an old wise friend there that thought him moral and how to best fight your opponents. Witch in the end saved him from going a destructive path. But of course some had to die, the men responsible of accusing him. I just love that story and my favourite part was the overpriced chicken in prison. I don’t know how many times i read and watched Monte Christo.

The letter Dantes recieved from Napoleon's own hand on Elba (the captain died before they reached the island) was not a fake. Danglars knew of this letter and got Fernand to write to the police so that Dantes would be arrested. He did not write the letter from Elba, that one was real. Also, the count planned on causing Danglars death by starvation just like Danglars caused Dantes's father to starve, but decided to spare him at the last moment.

2:04 - That's actually not true. Dantes tries to "stay sane" (also keep track of time) only throughout the first 3-4 years of him being in prison. Later on he stops counting the days and even attempts starving himself to death. It isn't long after he gives up on the idea of committing suicide when he hears the noises of someone (Abbe Faria) digging around.

I wouldn’t use this in a test. He can’t even pronounce the names right and while some of his facts are right some are not. Fernand did not send the letter to the island of Elba. He sent the letter accusing Edmond of being a Bonapartest and the letter was found. Just one example. It’s like this guy didn’t actually read the book before making this.

+Val Cronin Villefort lied to his wife, and falsely claimed the baby was stillborn. He waa prepared to bury the baby alive, until he gets interrupted. Years later, Villefort is accused of numerous crimes by that son. Importantly, Edmond/The Count of Monte Cristo set this all in motion. Great question!

Barrua who is the servant of monte cristo, reveals this story. He was the one who attempted to kill Villefort, because he was anxious that his brother was killed and VIllefort severely refused to investigate this case.So he follows Villefort for three months and finally stabs him with the knife. Then he sees a buried baby and thnks that god has rewarded him,so he adopts him. He grows up aggressive and cruel, and he leaves home and he puts Barrua`s wife on fire. When he tells the story to Monte Cristo he wishes to never meet that kid again and he hopes that he died. But count says those famous words that i love: `` Evil people are the weapons of revenge of God, they will never die out easily, God will use them to bring justice, however those evil people will get their punishment by another person. Despite him sympathy towards Barrua he refuses to believe this story,. Soon Monte Cristo gathers everyone for the party, Barrua was astonished:he has seen Bendetto, Villefort and Danglars wife. Monte Cristo lived in the place where Barrua claimed he has found the baby, so he decides to test whether its true or not. He brings everyone to the garden where the baby was buried, and he notices that mademoiselle Danglars is feeling very bad, and Villefort is very nervous. Later when Bendetto is jailed, Villefort has been delegated to prosecute him, and during the court Bendetto claims that Villefort is his father. Bendetto gt to know that when Barrua has visited him in jail and told him everything. Villefort leaves the court...

Bertuccio, who the Count of Monte Cristo later hires as a servant, as he is imprisoned when this happens, had an old vendetta against Villefort and was stalking him the night he went to the garden to bury the "stillborn" infant. He thinks he has killed Villefort by stabbing him and digs up the baby and runs off. Villefort wakes up later stunned, but only he and Bertuccio know the infant is missing. Bertuccio raises Benedetto, who is then hired by The Count to exact revenge on Villefort.

Abbe was basically an old title for priest not a name. So either he's called Faria or The Abbe. Not just Abbe, it's not a name. 4) Caderouse's insistence on repayment from Old Dantes is like chapter 2 but mentioned halfway through the video? 😂 Ok I gotta stop, doing this timeline all out of order is just confusing af

Villefort's father was a Bonapartist, meaning he was part of a party that wanted Napoleon to become the Emperor and overthrow the king. The letter Dante was asked to deliver contained information about the plan to sneak Napoleon back into France and mentioned Villefort's father by name. In order to protect his father and advance his career he destroys the letter, tosses Dante in prison without trial, and tells the king about the plot he learned of from a Bonapartist agent (Dante).

He realizes he could love someone else (Haydée) and that he could not be with Mercedes anymore because He’s not Dantés anymore. Also because she’s changed, while he has kept his countenance

unnecessarily so. there's alot of useless filler in it. although a really good book. too many details that only make sense , in the sense that they're details. if the book was trimmed to half you would still get the better part of the story and main plot.
