Not coming from the USA, I would not know if the country folk depicted here are as simple minded as portraid. I just wonder, if such a show was to be made and broadcast today, would the producers not so readily depreciate the intelligence of country folk, in order not to be accused of political correctness?

I'm from Virginia USA and think that for one thing "country folk " enjoy kidding each other and having fun this way. They like to laugh at each other and no one is really offended. I know I didn't put this well. But I think this is sort of correct.
