Here’s my cozy book recommendations , since I’m equally if not more in love with books as our dearest emmie: 1-Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montogomery 2- The Sherlock Holmes Canon (the entirety of it) 3- Little Women by Louisa May Alcott 4- The Secret History by Donna Tartt (a bit questionable I guess but it really is given the prose) 5- Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen 6- A good poirot mystery (Five Little Pigs is my most favorite of all )

Hey Emma, I was wondering if you’ve ever thought of creating a recs room inspired by other cultures? What I mean is that there are so many of us who do not celebrate Halloween or Christmas, and have our own set of holidays (for example Diwali for Hindus like me or Eid for Muslims), and it would be so great to see more booktubers incorporate these cultural differences in their recommendations. And since you’ve decided to embark on a world book tour, I thought this may be an element that would elevate that journey and help you connect better with your subscribers (like me!!) who send you all their love from all across the globe🌻

Something that helped me have the courage to talk to other people at uni is to realise that most of them probably want to talk to and meet someone as badly as I did and they were just to scared to make the first move. I just made the habit of saying hello to the person next to me and introducing myself, if the conversation stops there that’s fine, but you often end up meeting some really great people!

One of the most cozy books that ive ever read is Habibi by Naomi Shihab Nye, i listened to it on audiobook it two years ago and i still remember it. Hopefully you can find it, its not super popular but its soooooo underrated. The writing is beautiful (the author is a poet) and the romance is very sweet but thats not what the story really centers around. Edit: I had to search but i found it on hoopla as an audiobook and I’m so happy!

I just finished Heart of the Fae on your recommendation. I really enjoyed the “roughness” of it. The beasts beastliness was so interesting, and the underlying, and also explocit, eroticism (is that a Word…) was sooo well done and also genre bending in my opinion. Yes it is cozy but it is also raw and scary and for me that made this a very exciting and different fantasy fairytale experience . So Thank you for that rec 🙂 and many kind Reading-regards from Denmark (do you know seven gothic tales by Karen Blixen? I have a feeling you will l o v e it! Also anything by Tove Ditlevsen, both her wonderful middle grades and the darker stories about mental health)

Hi Emmie (or Emma)! Completely off topic but you have really good pronunciation of foreign languages. I love how you pronounce Japanese authors' names. Source: I'm a (upper beginner to lower intermediate) Japanese speaker. Do you speak any other foreign language or are you interested in learning one? My dream is to be able to read a novel in Japanese someday and compare it to the English translation, and ask to myself if there are any cultural contexts that are inevitably (unintentionally) lost in translation, and how does the English translation differ from the original work? English itself is my second language, and I have never lived in an English-speaking country. However, I read in English almost all the time, since I have been learning English ever since I was a really tiny toddler and I grew up reading both in English and my first language (Indonesian). I did consider majoring in English literature to channel my love for reading (ended up in International Relations, and I have graduated hahah). I still love reading to this day, and my love for it has helped me tremendously with my studies. However, since most of my reads are obviously non-fiction, I get burn-out every once in a while, and get into a book slump as a consequence. Your channel is a great escape to a wonderful word of fiction, and I love how you are not western-centric and explore amazing literary works of various cultures. I hope someday you also read Indonesian literature, although it is understandable if you have never read one since there aren't that many Indonesian novels that have reached international popularity. But if you ever want to get into it, I'd recommend one of the most renowned authors from Indonesia, Pramudya Ananta Toer, and his "Buru" quartet, which consists of This Earth of Mankind, Child of All Nations, Footsteps and House of Glass. Indonesia is a country that was once colonized by the Dutch, so if you want to know more about colonization and how it affects the development of our literature, his works are perfect. I haven't finished reading his works but I'll try to get into it. I don't know why it takes a foreign youtuber for the realization to hit me :") Have a great day Emma! With warmth and love from Indonesia, Monika

Omg THERE IS A TOTORO NOVEL!?!? I wish I didn't know that, now I had to get it 😂 For me the segue into autumn reading (even though here it feels more like August than it did in August) was Convenience Store Woman. Now I'm reading Orakel, which despite being set in winter, does feel right for the time of year. It's a Dutch book and I don't think it has been translated yet, but it kinda has similar vibes to those Scandinavian thrillers with a supernatural element. I don't think I've ever gotten through a book this big this fast, and I don't even like reading in Dutch that much. It might not be for everyone though, because it has fairly strong language (just normal by Dutch standards but lmao).

the set-up and decor are so nice... it all looks so cozy and I like that it's not super busy also, I have two questions! none that you actually have to answer, but I thank you if you do. 1. this might be tricky to answer, but after watching a few of your videos, (which are all so lovely, btw) I see that 'A 100 Years of Solitude' is one of your favorite books. The way you describe this book really piques my interest, but I'm afraid of jumping into it and not understanding a thing. :< So the question is, as a fresh book reader, what books would you recommend as precursors for gaining a better understanding of such a book? 2. I saw in one video you mentioned an annotation system, and I was wondering if you had a video on that? I have adhd, and I often have issues organizing my thoughts, especially now after not reading anything since I had to for school/uni. I always loved English & Literature classes, but I went a different route with my major. thank you so much in advance, and again, no pressure to respond or even give a lengthy response. your videos alone are super helpful & inspire me to read, so thank you. 3rd question after edit: sorry, just thought of a 3rd question. for books with rough topics, how do you help yourself from not being too affected by a book? this is probably a tough question to answer, but any insight would be helpful.

I'm probably taking your cozy murder mystery comments too literally, but Cozy Mystery is a subgenre. They are the kind of mysteries, yes that often involve murder, but it's less focused on the clues of a case and more on the people surrounding it. There's probably a memorable small town and a unique cast of characters. And I think it's these small town settings that are part of that cozy feel, especially compared to large cities that are usually portrayed in a cold and isolating way. I always think about Murder She Wrote when someone talks about cozies, though that's a tv series. I mean sometimes it can include some raunchy comments or innuendos, but it's not explicit in content or language like other mystery and detective stories can be. Cozies are not likely to have a sexy femme fatale character like hardboiled detective stories will.
