Thank you for presenting pretty much a Clarity of all the stages and what to use I've listened to other videos. It confirms my plan because my yard is overgrown with mature crabgrass so I'm just going to wait till January but the pre-emergent down if something's hanging around this dead pull it out. However the one thing I did find is that quinclorac is not good for my main grass that is growing which is Bermuda. However I still found your video helpful to sticking to a plan for when or what months to really start at control in the crab grass

Good that you talk about temps in different areas and thus the need to apply a pre-emergent at different times. Here in north central Texas crabgrass can and does germinate in February. I use a pre-emergent in October and again the first of February. It gets rid of lots of other weeds, too.
@lawncarelife8 жыл бұрын
+brutusdog yes, I think some people believe that the answer is the same everywhere but it really depends on the weather

I was always taught to get first dose of premerge rained in before the Forsythia loose its yellow flowers. Usually first week of March just north of you. Second dose first week of May Third dose by Second week of August for the Poa emerges when nights drop back around 60 degrees.

roundup on a dormant bermuda lawn does work. I use 1oz per gallon of water. Read the label and make sure the bermuda is dormant before applying. I wouldn't try it on other types of grass

Lawn Care Business Ya our grass goes dormant every winter. It just turns brown regardless of how much water gets to it or how sunny it is. This video helped me out tons. I really appreciate you posting on this. I'm gonna do the roundup treatment during fall semester so it should be in the works in a few months here.

I don't know the answer. We have very little St Augustine in my area. I would say it would be a great idea to prevent it with a pre-emergent. Most St Augustine Lawns I see do not have much crabgrass

When in your opinion is the best time to apply pre-emerge for crabgrass in northeast Texas?
@lawncarelife8 жыл бұрын
+Thad Gregory I apply pre-emergent 3 times a year. Typically around September, January and March. The last two of those applications are more targeted toward crabgrass prevention. In north Texas those dates may be pushed back a little bit. It has more to do with the temperature then the calendar

Great video, thanks for posting. I have an infestation of crabgrass and have sprayed with Bayer Advanced Weed Control which contains quinclorac, 2,4-d and dicamba, it turned the grass partially red with some spots but very little of the grass has died and it has been 3 weeks. I used the ready mix on the end of a hose and thought I had good coverage. My question now is would it help at this time to respray again this late in the year in Kentucky or just wait for frost? Also part of the crabgrass has become fairly large. I have Drive XLR8 on hand and could use it but it has a possibility of damaging fine fescue which is what I have. Do you ever use Drive on fine fescue? My fescue is Falcon V and I was told that it is a fine fescue. Will wuicclorac kill larger crabgrass? Any comments appreciated. Thanks John
@lawncarelife8 жыл бұрын
I would use Solitaire for crabgrass this time of year if you want it gone now. I would check to make sure it is labeled for fescue. I don't have fescue lawns in my area so I am not sure which products are labeled for fescue. If it were my yard, I would wait for the crabgrass to die in a few months and then use a pre-emergent in the winter or early spring
@grassmonkeylawncare60568 жыл бұрын
So if the crabgrass dies over the winter, can you go ahead and aerate and reseed and be good for the following year, I have many clients who have this and they want to over seed and aerate or detatch. What would you recommend
@lawncarelife8 жыл бұрын
+Grass Monkey Lawn Care I am hesitant to give you advice because I am not sure what part of the country you live in and what grasses you are dealing with. I am mostly familiar with the southern grasses we have. Here, many people aerate in the spring and overseed in the fall

+Lawn Care Business round up late in the season in Bermuda as well I usually mix Celsius and certainty a little iron to try to keep the burn down and try to make a follow up application 2 weeks later

Dallasgrass is the devil. Trick I use is put on a rubber glove, put some Roundup in a shallow cup or something. Dip your fingertip in the Roundup then wipe it on the blades of the Dallasgrass. This keeps damage to the turf minimal. Spraying it while its domant is risky. I've seen whole lawn killed dead and the owner says "My lawn wont come out of dormancy" Uhh...yeah cause you killed it by spraying it with Roundup.

I live in SE Louisiana & have St. Augustine grass in my lawn, most of the time we have a mixed winter of warm & cold days. I've had Crabgrass live right through the winter months. So my question is, can I use a Pre Emergent like Halts twice a year, like in the Fall & Spring to control it & other weeds in my lawn?
@lawncarelife8 жыл бұрын
I put out pre emergent out in the fall and in the winter. I typically apply three times a year. September January and March
@areafortyone8 жыл бұрын
Excellent, I'll put some down this fall then. Thanks
@lawncarelife8 жыл бұрын
+Fleets Enema I do think if the crabgrass is living through the winter in warmer climates may cause you to change your strategy. You could use Solitaire to eliminate existing crabgrass and still use a pre-emergent to prevent Crabgrass from coming back . Where I live the crabgrass dies off every winter so I do not have the the same problem you are referring to
@areafortyone8 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I've been fighting it all summer long. between the spot treatments with roundup & digging it up when I see it I'm gaining the upper hand. But I still plan to do the Scotts Halts.
