Painting isn't just for eye candy, if you paint inside and out correctly, everything gets caulked and sealed up, rot is properly dealt with so it doesn't spread further, and the building is protected from the elements.

Many years ago I learned a lot from an old friend who was very handy with wood/hand tools. One thing was to soak axe and sledgehammer heads in antifreeze probably twice a year. It would keep the wood fibers swelled up in the head and doesn't dry as it will like water does. I've never had a loose handle since.

My dad and i are currently restoring an axe for my brother in law. Come to find out, we both watch your channel and have taken tips and instruction from you for this restoration. Thanks cody, you've brought a father and son together with a shared commonality not only in your channel but working with our hands on wood and steel. Side note, 3 weeks ago I was diagnosed with a second tyoe of cancer since the 1st of this year. This time a bit more serious and multiple surgeries & chemo will be required. Couldnt think of a better time to bond with my dad with a project we both have a passion for and to help distract from what's to come. Thanks cody & fam for all that you stand for and stand firm in. God bless your family.

Interesting combination of oaths and covenants.... might I add some perspective? Matthew 5:34 “But I say to you, Do not take an oath at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God, 35 or by the earth, for it is his footstool, or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. 36 And do not take an oath by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black. 37 Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything more than this comes from evil.[James 1:8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. Shoulders take longer to heal & sometimes you never regain the 100% usage. I have around 60% of documented usage left in my shoulder. Let them heal slowly! I used to take pride in how strong I was when I was younger. I loved playing baseball and was a pitcher, alright enjoyed woodworking, mechanic working & lifting weights. All of that is over with now!

Hi Cody, Helko axes are widely used here in Chile, but I don't think that model is currently for sale here. It is NOT a splitting maul, but I think it's a Heavy Vario 2000 Felling axe. The splitting maul is even chunkier than that one. Fun fact: that guard, is not part of the axe head itself. It gets sandwiched in place between the handle and the head using the two screws. (Personally I don't like the system). Supposedly, you can interchange the head to make it whatever you want, from a hatchet to a heavy splitter. Helko makes 5 different blades for the system. If you can get your hands on a Casco Axe, also made by Helko Werks, you'll get a REALLY RUSTIC, old fashioned german axe, that can last you a lifetime. The eyes in those things are HUGE, so you can fit a pretty heavy handle in them. Best regards!!

Thanks for heeding our calls to get an MRI. You’ll be super glad you did. As someone who has experienced major shoulder issues i find it much more pertinent to diagnose the issue than to treat first and then figure out if that’s working. For now don’t sleep on it and take it easy, but a sling isn’t necessary just yet. Thanks for putting out good content!

Received one of these for Christmas last year. Was skeptical at first but after splitting over 8 cords of oak with it, I'm a believer. However, the through screws came loose, fatigued and had to be replaced and (even though I haven't broken it yet), a replacement handle is pretty expensive. The slightly curved handle and the head geometry deliver lots of energy transfer to the wood. Overall, a surprisingly excellent splitting maul!

I went to a bed/pillow place and bought a new pillow that was much larger than my previous one and overnight it was a heap better. A year later and it is a distant memory. Since it's been 8 months and hopefully your shoulder has healed fully. This would be a neat axe to revisit to see it chop and perform. Also, we could get to see how tight that axe head stays after prolonged use (if you've been using it). God Bless you and your family.

Heres a tip for u if your axe handle gets loose during the summer it is because the wood drys out there for it srinks if u soak it with water for a week it will tighten up again thats what I do and it works. Great video by the way.

I love our Council belt axe and the Council Hudson axe. As far as a splitting maul I break the handles so much since I'm lazy and leave it out on the wood pile I just use any maul at the nearest ACE or Home Depot as long as its says USA. Good luck with the shoulder.

Definitely get that shoulder checked. Popped mine out in 2003 during selection for the army. Popped it back in and passed selection... 2020 with two operations behind me and its still not right.

Nice video. Good luck with the shoulder. Hope you will be able to use it during the move. Not sure about the axe and curious whether it will hold up.
