25:25 "It's almost like he's in a dream." Spot on. Grant Morrison said it's pretty much a canon story in a sense that Bruce would legitimately have this dream.

Joker MadHatter and scarecrow ofcourse, gave him illusinegen drugs,so batman is actually dreaming a hell of a bad trip in the Asylum.. That's why he asked help in the end.. Cuz he's still tripping even when he leaves the Asylum when Joker🃏 tells him that he'll always have a place in there.. LSD.. That's what i received from the book.!!

You didn't mention the Tarot theme throughout the book. This is crammed full of Tarot imagery, specifically Aleister Crowley's "Thoth" deck. The instant Batman enters Arkham, the "Hanged Man" is the first thing we see. I also love how Harvey Dent says at the end, " Who cares for you? You're nothing but a pack of cards.". A reference to Alice in Wonderland when Alice grows big and throws the Red Queen's army about. He throws the Tarot, for it is now nothing but a deck of cards.

Grant Morrison also confirmed this book all takes place in Batman's dream and is his subconscious working things out. It's a literal nightmare. Which is why the art is so hazy, hard to decipher, and changes shape, like in a real dream.

Incorrect. Mad Dog is at Metropolis penitentiary where Armadeus interviews him. The Arkham house doesn't become an asylum until AFTER his family is murdered. His downfall is that he doesn't take the threat of these mentally deranged people seriously as he is only fascinated by their mental illness. He blows off the warning call about Mad Dog escaping so he loses his family and sanity as a consequence.

Having just read this Book and of course coming to comicpop afterwards to see if there was a back issues for it (glad there was). I give praise to the artists for the unique psychotic tale that is Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on a Serious Earth. The visuals of Joker is stressful to look at and each page's art while overwhelming suits this book to a tee. As for the story this book offered I found your retelling of this book far easier to comprehend than the frantic two stories this book ran with. Joker's Dialogue(red & unique) was painful to read digitally but I'll give it props for being just as insane as the story itself which makes it par for the course. This book had a few moments that hit me even after the first couple of pages provided a GLIMPSE of what was to come, one of which was the bloody dollhouse. Definitely was not expecting that intense imagery. I'm going to give it another read in the foreseeable future but I'll make sure to get a copy with the additional script at the end because while this video filled In a few gaps like the Zeus wannabe (never heard of before) & Mad Hatter, I'm sure Grant Morrisons commentary & visually removed script will provide further clarity. And I just want to experience this insanity again. Apparently clay face was in this, so I'll be looking out for him. Fun video as always!

OMG! Thanks for reading this story guys. I grew up with A Serious House On Serious Earth and it holds a special place for me. It's CERTAINLY not for everyone of course, and the art and writing prove it. Even I didn't like it the first time I read it. However... As time went on I was slowly to slowly see it from another angle and enjoy it, until I finally flat out loved it. It took a different approach, it was quite risky, and I loved the way it turned out. It's seriously one of the more bizarre Batman stories I've read (And that's saying a lot) but I think the risks it takes are well worth it and it breathes an almost new and abstract vision into Batman's Universe. Really enjoyed this one guys. Thank You. And keep up the good work.

Movie(s) pitch. DC continues making Batman villain origin stories where they all end up in Arkham asylum, then theres some sort of story where Batman has to go into Arkham to stop whatever’s happening. We get that action story along with the origins of Arkham asylum, similar to this comic. It would be a lot less trippy then the artwork and style of the comic though.

Hey guys, I know this is considered to be a long and complicated book, especially in comparison to most comics though but... Have you ever read Alan Moore's From Hell? I feel that would make an interesting, strange, yet unique episode.

Arkham didn't have the Joker on the cover of the original book. It had a Bat, some simple red Tarot imagery, and some empty wooden picture frames. There is some sort of lace on the back cover, I don't know what that is about.

*Mentions Insomnia* Its a remake of a foreign film of the same name by WB studios to test out an up-and-coming director if he can work within the Hollywood studio system. It stars Al Pacino, Hilary Swank, and Robin Williams; about an LAPD homicide detective trying to solve a murder in a town in Alaska where the sun doesn't set. It's a great film. Oh, and the up-and-coming director was Christopher Nolan, after Memento, and it was his film before Batman Begins.

Chris Maclean I like that they clearly took inspiration from the Batman vs Superman fight in The Dark Knight Returns. Batman telling Superman he's going to bleed is freaking cool. That said the relentlessly grim tone carried over from Man of Steel still bothers me. I still hate this version of Superman and I want to see Batman give him a serious beat-down. I will probably be disappointed.

I loved this book and it terrified me.. so is this actually Batman’s dream? The art gave that vibe as well as Batman being somewhat “weak” and “open”. Why did Batman stab himself with the glass? and why did all the characters not really attack him only to have conversations?

I see it as Bruce Wayne having a nightmare. Lots of people see it trying to be a true Batman tale when in reality it's more akin to Bruce Wayne in a Batman costume. Which is interesting in its own right. Even Mad Hatter states it's not really happening. Which coincidently is the plot of a Batman The Animated Series episode. It also makes it as memorable as Jokers "multiple choice past" from The Killing Joke. It's simply saying not to take it as in canon but to see it as an interesting idea. Batman scared? What would that look like? Look no further.
