For what it is worth, I live just a few miles from Menai. This is the bit of river/sea that seperates Anglesey from the mainland. The name HUGH or rather HUW is very very common, and more so a few years ago. Williams is also a very common surname too. There is a very strong possibility that these were all completely different people. The 2 both named are actually a man and his own nephes and so they had the same name and so that also showed how common the name was. Also, the Menai Straights has some seriously horrible currents and there has been hundreds and hundreds of boats sinking along this patch of water, and the number of people that have drowned is in the thousands. So it is not that surprising that these were found out. What you wil also find, is the name Dai or Daffydd ( Translation is DAVID ) and I wil put money down that there was at least one Dai on every one of the boats that sank!

I'd love to hear you guys talk about Griffith Owen, who was from Wales. When on their ship far out at sea during i think it was around the 1700s his father fell overboard and a great white shark which he called a 'sea dog' started towards his father. Griffith was about to demonstrate bravery beyond the likes most could ever muster up as he requested his sword and dove into the ocean to try and kill the great white while swimming under it and stabbing it in the stomach. He was up against millions of years of evolution, though, and only had a sword. The end result was that after he stabbed the great white, it submerged and came back up and bit him in half. His story i will never forget. A true hero and a brave soul who risked his life for his father against a monster of a great white with only a sword. Gangster.

Hugh could have been a watchman, his position on the ship could have offered him better optics so he could survive. In those days, many of men made their living aboard ships, so it's not unheard of a sailor surviving many shipwrecks during his lifetime. Hugh Williamson is a common name, which can be mistaken as Hugh Williams, William Hughes which are just as common British names. These guys probably would go down in other shipwrecks, but another Hugh would survive.

Welsh guy here for some extra context: Welsh people didn't have surnames in the same way that is now common, it was almost always 'x son of y' (ap, sometimes ab, meaning son of in Welsh). Sooo we did eventually get around to using surnames, but because it's newer for us we don't have many of them, so many people end up with the same ones. Between Jones and Wiliams it feels like you're covering half the country lol. Also, Hugh or Huw is a very common first name in Wales also. Still a huge coincidence though lol

What makes you think hes a time traveler trying to stop the wreck? If he is, he never learns anything. Like, DONT GET ON THE SHIP.... and it wont wreck. On the other hand, if hes an spyder like alien with a web in another dimension, a that only lines up with THIS dimension at certain times allowing him to trap and feed in that one location only, and hes using stormy weather as a cover to explain why the ships and crews disappear completely, then hes batting 1000. Maybe hes a fisherman casting a fishnet big enough to snatch a whole ship and crew and pull it into his dimension. and he only hangs around long enough to tell the shipwreck story and make sure no one suspects.
