Those North Korean soldiers are absolutely doomed. They failed to prevent a highly embarrassing incident and broke the UN armistice agreement in the process of doing so. You could see them looking really scared in the CCTV footage after he had gotten away because they knew what was coming next for them. There are other North Korean military defectors who say those soldiers were almost certainly sent away to camps if not killed.

He promptly had a border trench constructed in the area Oh defected across though, to prevent any future escapes. North Korea was significantly fined by the UN for the violations (shooting into South Korea after Oh and 1-2 soldiers also briefly crossed the demarcation line before running back), but it's unclear if Kim's government ever paid the money.
