I think that was because the first throw was a complete miss. If you don't need to use another berry, I don't think the throw actually registers as a throw. He never got 2 HITS.

@@billangell3387 naa the 2nd articuno broke out of the ball once and didn't flee right away. He was able to get a great throw on it the 2nd time but still fled. Same with Zapdos at the end. It broke out of the first ball

Crazy to have 3 spawn in one incense. Too bad about them all running away. I've had 1 spawn so far - a Moltres - that spawned with only 25 seconds left on the incense. Took a little while to prepare my throw and I ended up with a bad Nice throw, but to my huge surprise Moltres stayed in the ball. I was beyond stoked about that. Good luck on your next incense walks. I could not clicked on the legendary zapdos that spawned for me because a pikachu was spawned on same spot tried clicking it and kept getting pikachu then caught the pikachu then it despawned did not even get to throw a ball at it.
