Nick Rodriguez is one of the major stars in the world of professional grappling. Exploding onto the world stage only 5 years ago, the 'Black Belt Slayer' has defied all normal rules of grappling, medaling at the sports biggest tournament with only a handful of years training under his, now black, belt. On top of this Nicky has a rich history of motocross, riding as a young kid and selling his 450 to chase his athletic dream full time. I knew Nicky hadn't ridden in years, so we took two fresh Yamaha's to Glen Helen so Nicky could get a chance to ride again!
Before we get into this episode though, I wanted to share with you some awesome news regarding our first ever race, the Gypsy Tales 500.
Vurbmoto and Gypsy Tales are putting on an 8hr Grand Prix style event in Mesquite, NV. Using one of Gypsy’s favorite events, Australia’s Transmoto series, as inspiration, this will be an 8hr team or solo (for the Savages) race with your boys (or girls). The course will consist of a tamed down moto track and off-road loop, averaging 20 min lap times. The goal? Have fun, kick some beers and race your buddies. It’s worth noting this is a 125cc and Up race, no mini bikes allowed.
As far as the course goes, it will be part moto, part off-road - Sunday’s loop will be a unique course with an average lap time of 20 minutes. The loop will include terrain for the average rider along with a tamed down motocross track with no mandatory jumps. Again, this is a vibe race and will be built for all rider disciplines.

I wish someone would talk to bubba about the race bs he dealt with. I remember in early 2000’s when James would come out from the tunnel. The stuff people would say, throw cups, terrible stuff. He kept a big smile the whole time. He is UNDOUBTEDLY the reason our sport is so acceptable, open and respectful no matter where, who and what you are. James and big James did that with a smile. A good looking one too

He also had more fans that adored him and sang his name than probably any rider I've ever seen he inspired a whole generation of riders. Everyone has shit said to them it's weird you would focus on that

@@nathancrittenden8525it’s not a focus it’s just truth. Should watch an interview with his dad Big James and listen to what he says he had to shield Bubba from as a kid at amateur races. Sad history but just as important to show how valuable he was to the sport. And I can guarantee other riders didn’t have certain things said about them as he did. I know, I’m black and grow up riding in South Georgia/North Florida in the 90s.

@MaxRobb Seen that, too. People need to understand the whole story, nothing wrong with that.

As a Bubba fan, watching him storm to the lead only to yardsale 2 laps later was the most stressful thing to watch. Just screaming "slow down" at the screen

JS7 was unreal. I love watching supercross nowadays but there isn’t that same element that he brought to the sport

James is my all time favorite rider. Still to this day the fastest ever, but man the anxiety I had as a fan watching him. Go big or go home.

The Stewart family went through a ton of BS for their skin color back in the early 2000s.. glad the sport isn’t like that anymore.
