In a 2000 NFL week 8 game between the Baltimore Ravens and Tennessee Titans for first place in the AFC Central, Ravens DT Tony Siragusa injured his spine, and had to be carted off the field in the first half. Somehow, he returned to the game later in the first half. This is the story behind what might be the greatest and craziest moment in the legendary career and life of Tony Siragusa

It's rough when one member of an organization dies, nevermind two in the same day. Godspeed to Tony Siragusa and Jaylon Ferguson, and may peace and light be upon their families.

The way he entered the NFL was pretty crazy, too. He was an undrafted free agent and the coach asked him if he could long snap. Siragusa lied and said yes. He practiced it day and night, getting tips everyday from his brother who was a HS long snapper via payphone. He got good at it and made the team. By the 3rd year became a full time starter at Nose Tackle.

He also owned the Tiffany's restaurant franchise for a while in Northern New Jersey. They restaurant was known for its really good ribs. I "met" Tony at once of the restaurants once. He was leaving for some reason unknown to me (there were no notices saying come meet Tony Siragusa from x-x that day). He held the door for me. I recognized him as who he is. I nodded and thanked him. Nothing more as he was not on "public time". As a Browns fan, I choose to remember Tony this way.

I knew Tony and family growing up in same town in Jersey...being a huge Giant fan I as you can imagine was bitter bout Super Bowl loss to Goose and Ravens. Our town had a parade in his honor, (rightfully so)..to which I did my little protest by not attending..I ran into Tony a few years later and told as much..he laughed his ass off and said he knew a few others from town who did the same, and that his father a big Giant fan probably would've done the same..lol..we went on to talk and reminisce about different things and people we knew thru the years...that was Tony..a class act, and genuine guy who never 4got his roots and never took himself seriously...ill miss you Goose...RIP BROTHER

This was fantastic. Nice work getting it done so quickly. I can remembering this happening but these were the days when you were lucky to get a couple of paragraphs on a Ravens game in the Bay area newspapers. I had just moved to Berkeley. Goose gets lost in the shuffle a bit with all the other stars but he was integral in establishing the mentality of defense for the Baltimore Ravens. Godspeed...

Great video! Great video about a great man on and off the field, Tony Saragusa was all business on the field but in his personal life and time off the field he had a heart of gold the size of Baltimore, Tony never forgot where he came from, Tony never went Hollywood (even with all his money he still seems like somebody you could relate to because what you saw was what you got with him, there was no alter ego for the cameras.), he was a fun loving guy who got the most out of life making the other people around him happier with his great positive personality and funny sense of humor (we all saw his great sense of humor after he retires then started broadcasting, he was always the life of the party on Sunday.), he did plenty of great things to help others in the community because he truly cared and wanted to help others not not trying to make himself look good or looking for recognition from the media ( he helped others because he wanted to help, he was never trying to shine a spotlight on himself like plenty of famous people do when what they are doing to help is a thinly veiled excuse to shine a spotlight on themselves.). Obviously tony Saragusa will live forever in NFL history because of his amazing play on the field where he always gave it everything he had he will also live forever because of his good deeds off the field that helps so many people, obviously he was a great athlete but that's only half the story because what he did off the field during and after his playing career made him a great man period. We're not here to start no trouble, we're just here to do the Super Bowl shuffle, I remember watching the 85 Bears, don't get me wrong they were an amazing team with a great shut down defense but the 2000 Ravens defense was way better than those bears (that years ravens defense is the best defense in NFL history, hands-down, no contest, no comparison.(,, that Defense controlled the field, other teams were scared to play against Baltimore that season, that defense carried the ravens that season all the way through the regular season to the playoffs where they dominated as underdogs to the epic Super Bowl blowout victory over the Giants, without that defense the ravens wouldn't have done anything that year and everybody knows it. They were fun to watch, they played hard like you want your defense to play, there were plenty of great individual superstar athletes on that defense that year but nobody was looking to shine a spotlight on themselves and it was obvious because they worked so well together as one unit on the field making each other and the entire defense better and better each game as the season went on, they were holding teams down winning games with field goals because they knew they had to do it themselves because most weeks the offense just didn't show up (in plenty of games that season the lackluster offense made life harder for the defense even when all they had to do was run the ball to keep the clock moving.) so they did what they had to do every week because they knew they were who was winning the games on the field. The Raiders just won a home playoff game, i'll never forget after the game when they were showing the fans in the black hole, this wild crazy dude in a cape with silver and black face paint was yelling into the camera as they went to commercial bring on the Titans, bring on the Titans, bring on Eddie George Bring on the Titans, they don't stand a chance, we're going to destroy them next week. We all know what happened, that dude's dream didn't come true (sometimes you don't get what you want.), The ravens beat the Titans in Tennessee, The Raiders got completely embarrassed at home when the ravens came to town and dominated them and the answer to your question is yes,, The defense did it. I'm not saying any of this because I'm a homer, I'm not a ravens fan, I don't live in Baltimore, I'm saying this because I love and appreciate great football and the defense was great football. Tony Saragusa was a big part of the unbelievable defense, he was just as important as all of the big-name superstars playing alongside him that season. The NFL did not just lose a legend, the world lost a great man! The NFL needs to show him the respect he deserves by commemorating his great career not just as a player but as a broadcaster also at the beginning of the season with a moment of silence and a ceremony acknowledging how great he was and how much he meant to the game. In Baltimore for the Home fans and nationally televised for all of us also. The goose will always be on the loose, long live Tony Saragusa!! RIP Tony I really enjoyed the video! It was very interesting, it's a great story. We all know there's more to football than just numbers on a stat sheet, the story proves it. Keep up the great work and great content🍻

Being from Jacksonville, and the Ravens being one of our rivals in the AFC Central made me not care too much for the Ravens. But a few years after the Ravens won against the Giants in the Superbowl I got to meet Tony Siragusa at a Casino I was cooking at in 2004. He was holding a private party at Foxwoods, and Dan Marino and some of the guys from the Sopranos was there. He's a cool guy. He owned a restaurant in Florida and had his line cooks fly up to Connecticut and work along side us. It was one of the best parties I got to work on there.

What about two plays before Baltimore scored a td and their qb was head hunted, drilled to the ground, and dog piled? That looked a lot dirtier and seemed much more intentional. Or the punt or kick off (been a while, forgot which) when the receiver was held and hit high? Or that the whole game the raiders were getting whistled for late hits but weren't given flags for? So if it was dirty, and I don't think it was, was completely justified.

Tony Siragusa, to me it was like John Belushi decided to play football, and, like Belushi, Siragusawas a pretty nimble athlete for a big guy. Goose wasn't an all-time great nor was he the best player on the team BUT like an engine, it needs all moving components to work in unison. He was the heartbeat of that 2000 Ravens defense. He's an icon here in Baltimore and for the Flock RIP to the Goose✊💪

How many of the Siragusa's teammates on the defense wanted to spike their offense to the ground on every single play after that performance?

Ravens ran 3-4 , because The Goose was 2nd DL. RIP !! 2000 Ravens 2nd best defense behind 68 Chiefs , and 15 Broncos. Round out top five 86 Bears, and 01 Pat's. Look up 86 Bears before make a comment.

I hate the Ravens because they just about always beat my favorite Dolphins and hometown team Titans in the playoffs but I always like the Goose with his great colorful personality as he reminded me of a great Baltimore Colts player Art Donovan. RIP Mr Siragusa.

Shame that he is gone. Best thing he ever did was fall on the raiders QB in the playoffs In todays NFL, no way he is allowed back in the game
