I've visited Vietnam. I saw a teenage guy get hit by a motorcycle. It wasn't hard enough to knock him down, luckily. He just walked away as if "this happens all the time." 3 generations of family on a motorcycle? That's common. I saw a guy carrying a split-system air conditioner on a scooter-type motorcycle. He had the indoor part on the floorboard and he was holding the heat pump (outdoor) part with his left hand and driving with his right hand. The next day, I saw two guys on a motorcycle. The guy on the back had his hands up in the air as if he was cheering. As I got closer, I realized that he was holding a giant rectangular piece of glass--like for a coffee table or conference room table! If you don't like traffic laws or safety regulations, Vietnam is the place to be!

In my time here I’ve seen a washing machine, a fridge-freezer (one of the tall ones), a massive tree, several indoor air conditioning units, a motorbike chassis and a load of other things on the back of a motorbike. I’ve also lost count of the times I’ve seen guys riding pillion holding onto banh mi or other carts with no tow bars/straps or ropes. They just hold onto it and off they go.

Having lived in Hanoi for a while and traveled through Vietnam extensively, I wouldn't even bat an eye at half of these, that's how normal this is there!

WOW! I thought I was overloading my Honda Goldwing at times but this is ridiculous. I can only imaging when they get get caught in a crosswind. I would not want to be on the same roads as them. I have even seen this happen over here with immigrants but not as bad. It's illegal yet they still do it.

Its kinda sometimes seen in India but it's not that common. Also the loads usually aren't that much but heck this one is insane.

Omg can you imagine Americans in morning traffic on those streets? The world would end!! I heard lots of horn blowing but no cussing or middle fingers. That's a daily thing here in America lol

America has five times the amount of traffic deaths as Vietnam so it obviously isn’t dangerous as long as the drivers are competent unlike Americans

I can answer this as a motorcyclist in Vietnam! It looks super chaotic but the speeds on the roads are low (city speed is maximum 40-50kph) and most people will at the very least stop or go around obstacles. Plus when you’re dealing with something every day then it becomes pretty normal. Also, having a good horn helps :)
