Breaking: Greece fines Google two undecillion euros for espionage using Google Maps (enough money to fix the greek economy)
@nicobenji02483 күн бұрын
Sure but you can't look into an outpost with Google maps. Also Lots of decoy defenses exist to confuse spy planes and satellites. They do have a legitimate concern if people are taking pictures of military bases. You can see what kind of weapons they have and their ammunition type with a high end camera. You can only get so much Intel from satellite images. This is why tourists get arrested all the time cause they see a military base and take pictures cause they think it's cool. But they usually let you go after making you delete the pictures. But if you're using a nice camera to get detailed photos then they take it more seriously. That being said their sentencing was excessive. Especially since they returned to the country for it 😅. But guess they just wanted to make an example of them lol

I have served on that island 20 years ago, and i can tell you the army was very paranoid with the island. The fact is this island is vital to the Nations defense ofcourse i never believed they were actual spies but thats how goverments operate. You always have to prove you are not an elephant and if they indeed were taking pics of camps that just looks bad. They surely didnt have bad intention but the authorities couldnt have known that without investigating it. Ether way im glad they are free, and i advise our visiting friends please dont photograph military instalations without a permit.

Yeah I possibly could/should have mentioned that tensions were somewhat high at the time with Turkey if I remember correctly. As crazy as the arrests seem to us now, the island is definitely a crucial part of the Nations defense and they were well within their rights to make the arrests. Just glad the guys got to go home to their families without too much delay.

@@RaidensPMC sounds like an internal government problem, if they couldn't actually prove it was spying and the data wasn't collected for Turkey for example or any other particular party, they should've got a fine for pics without a permit at most.

I've worked with Ivan for a few years and now share the studio with Martin. Both solid guys and passionate devs. When i first heard about this whole charade i couldn't believe it. I'm glad that they are out tho - and healthy and still hammering away on games. Not even Greek prison can take that kinda fire away from you it seems.

I remember something similar happening with arma or at least i think it was arma where a developer somehow got their hands on the real blueprints for some USA military plane and was using those plans to create a perfect replica in the game. Does this sound familiar? I cant find anything about this on google but I remember it being a pretty big deal , maybe not
@quinnhasse91703 күн бұрын
perhaps it was warthunder?

That sounds like DCS. One of the developers got arrested for trying to smuggle F-16 manuals out of the US.

Hey Raiden, this might be a tall ask.. I've watched a lot of your Antistasi videos; and I'd want to know if you'd be interested in trying a completely new form of Antistasi per se? I run a community that has its own in house built alteration of Antistasi, where we use an autonomous AI module to create a dynamic and persistant story. Just wanted to know if you're interested in trying it out, we're a small community, but very focused on quality.

They rejected the proof that they were literally video game devs and were making a map dedicated to their islands, it really is stupid. Like surely they'd have to prove that it was an act of espionage? Like who they were spying for and whether the organisation they obtained the data for were capable of acting upon the it... Don't agree with it at all, if they couldn't prove it was spying, should've got a fine at most for taking pictures without a permit, that's it.
@alexkarpen5 күн бұрын
@@flexdon5188 but it was spying, if it wasnt they would ask for a permit. If you photograph any military base without permission it is spying, even for personal usage. It was spying for video game development but also they could have ties with any Turkish side who would know. They did awesome job though with altis.
@flexdon51885 күн бұрын
@@alexkarpen fine, technically "spying", but the charges were for espionage, which they can't prove. "Who would know?" The accusing party should know, it's supposed to be innocent until proven guilty, not the other way round. 2 years suspended sentence for some pictures is bs 😂 it should've been a fine for no permit. P.S "... tensions are high between us and another country atm so our professionalism goes out the window so we must make an example of these video game nerds for taking pictures.."
@alexkarpen5 күн бұрын
@@flexdon5188 i agree with the largest portion of your comment, but as far as i know in military matters in Greece ~"it's supposed to be innocent until proven guilty"~ if you get caught in the act you are guilty till you prove your innocence without any grain of doubt. I think that applies also to US and most Military oriented cases accross the globe. The bs of the greek side was that they used this case to show that they are not fooling around with security. Devs had good intentions but they got tangled in a semi political statement.
@flexdon51885 күн бұрын
@@alexkarpen well yeah I agree fully, your last part nails it on the head tbh, it sucks because the arma dev team is essentially promoting their country and islands with the map Altis and they get prison time for it, just a crappy situation really. P.S been to Greece, love the country and people, but for me a lot of their government stuff is very questionable in general imo lol, but that's just me 😂
